Ep. 1492 Distractions Part 5

“Your heart is trying to change you, but your body is fighting the changes!”

Myria says “What does that even mean?”

“It means that your body is all messed up. There are a number of partial changes and problems that those changes caused.”

Myria says “Alright, what do we do about it?”

“Well, we have two choices. I can remove the heart and heal you. You should go back to being a normal bunny-girl.”

Myria says “Would I lose my core?! If so, then I don’t want to! I don’t want to lose the strength that I have gained!”

“No, your core should stay as it is. Just your heart would go back to the way it was supposed to be.”

Myria says “Why didn’t you do that originally?!”

“Because at the time I couldn’t heal well enough to replace your heart. The replacement would have had the same defect as the original. I have gotten much better at healing since then.”

Myria says “Alright. What’s the second option?”

“The second option is a little more dangerous and would involve some experimenting. I would go through your body, fix the problems and complete the changes that would benefit you. I would remove those that don’t. The problem is, I don’t have a way to guarantee that the changes wouldn’t happen again.”

Myria says “Would that make me stronger?!”

“In theory, yes. I can’t be sure, I have tried to avoid getting into these kinds of experiments. The goddesses don’t like me playing with this kind of thing.”

Myria says “If we go with the second option, you can always reset me to normal later, right?”

  “Yes, again in theory.”

Myria says “In that case, I choose option two. I will just trust in you to save me if things don’t work out the way we want.”

“Are you sure? You don’t need to take these kinds of risks to get stronger. We have other ways for you to get stronger. Besides, even if you don’t get stronger, I won’t love you any less.”

Myria says “I don’t doubt that! I don’t doubt your love, but I still want to get stronger! I choose the second option!”

I try to talk her out of it for several minutes, but she refuses to change her mind. I am not really in a position to argue against taking risks to get stronger, I do it all the time. So, I finish and put away the last crystal and have Myria come sit in my lap.

Then I flood her body with my mana until I can sense every single cell in her body. I am able to quickly figure out what went wrong and it is absolutely my fault. If I had used a regular animal’s heart it would have been fine, but I used the heart of a mana beast.

Still, that alone would have been fine, but I also gave her an artificial core and that caused the problem. With the core providing mana to the heart, it did what it was designed to do. It changed the blood that was flowing through it to what it was supposed to be.

That blood then went throughout her body and tried to change everything else. It has been trying to change her body to match its original form, that of a mana beast. Some of her cells accepted the changes, but some didn’t and that is what caused the problems.

If I go through and remove the changes, the blood is just going to try to change her body again. The only way that I can see to fix this is going to be to change the heart and then let it change the blood. Normally, those changes would take time, but I am pretty sure I can speed it up.

“Myria, to fix this I am going to have to make specific changes to your body. Before I do that, are there any changes that you would like me to aim for?”

Myria immediately starts listing off a whole bunch of cosmetic changes that she would like done. I argue against most of them as unnecessary, but she is adamant that she wants them. A few I agree with, but I keep my opinion to myself and do my best to make sure she really wants them.

To do this, I am basically going to have to reprogram the DNA of both her body and the heart. Normally, that would totally be beyond my capabilities, but magic makes it possible. The draconic word for life has all sorts of information, including how to make a spell that will work.

I need to create a complete image of what Myria wants to be and then the spell will convert that. The spell will rewrite the DNA in her body to match the converted image. The problem is that in order for it to work, the image has to be absolutely complete in every detail.

I have to fill the image with every muscle, every organ, every nerve, it is intense. I obviously don’t know enough to create the image from scratch, but I don’t need to. I can take an image of Myria’s current body and then modify it the way she wants it.

Or at least that is the theory that I am working with, but I don’t tell Myria that. I don’t want her to be anymore worried than she already is, I am worried enough for both of us. I create the image and make the cosmetic changes that Myria has requested.

Once she has approved the changes, I get to work on making the internals match. Doing that is much harder than making the cosmetic changes, but much more important. This goes way beyond my knowledge of anatomy, I am going to have to rely on the magic to make it work.

When the image is as good as I can possibly make it, I go ahead and cast the spell. At first nothing happens, just the image overlays Myria’s body, but then things start happening. The first changes are too small for me to notice even though I am looking for them.

The first changes that I am able to spot are happening inside of her heart, but they are small. The beating of her heart slows down and Myria complains of a tight feeling in her chest. Her heart doesn’t stop, but it slows down enough that it probably feels similar to a heart attack.

I do my best to keep her calm and to keep her from moving, but it lasts for several minutes. Her heart rate picks back up just as soon as the changes to her heart are complete. Then, her heart starts making changes to her blood and the blood carries it to the rest of her body.

She complains of strange feelings and itching sensations throughout her body. It soon escalates to pain enough to make her scream, but all I can do is hold her as she suffers. I do throw up a barrier around us to keep anyone else in the camp from being disturbed.
