Lizzy says “Seriously? What else could they possibly be talking about?”

  “I don’t know, fashion or something?”

  Lizzy says “Was that supposed to be a joke? If so, mine was better!”

  “No, it wasn’t a joke. I was serious. They don’t have to be talking about me. They could just be chatting and getting to know each other.”

  Lizzy says “Maybe, but I doubt it. If that was the case, Myria wouldn’t have invited Mavabel to join them. She really has nothing in common with the other three. At least from what I have seen and heard.”

  “Well, maybe Myria wanted someone who knows about the local area.”

  Lizzy says “If that were the case, I’m pretty sure she would talk to Mavel, queen to queen. That would be better than talking to her daughter.”

  “Maybe that’s because they are closer in age.”

  Lizzy says “You just have an excuse for everything don’t you? Are you that desperate to not realize the truth?”

  “I can’t help it! I don’t want more wives!”

  Lizzy says “Why not? Isn’t more mates a good thing?”

  “Because I already feel like I don’t have enough time to keep all of them happy. Adding more will just make it worse.”

  Lizzy says “Have they said that they aren’t happy?”

  “No, but they probably just don’t want to pressure me.”

  Lizzy says “I may not interact with them much, but your wives don’t strike me as the type to suffer in silence. Especially Myria.”

  “You may be right, but can we please talk about something else? Anything else!”

  Lizzy laughs at me, but thankfully she lets the subject drop and stops teasing me for now. I am sure that this isn’t the last I am going to hear about it, but for now I can get back to work. I take out the leather and chitin from the scorpcroc that I skinned and start making a pouch.

  Well, it is more the size of a backpack, but it is shaped like a pouch so that is what I will call it. Once the shape is there, I use the chitin to armor the outside and increase its mana capacity. However, even with the chitin the mana capacity is nowhere near what I am going to need.

  From what I have planned out, this is not going to work, I am going to need way more room. The scorpcroc is obviously not a strong enough beast for what I am trying to do. Then again, I can’t even do the enchantments right now even if I had the right materials.

  I am pretty sure that the pouch is going to end up needing to be an artifact to work the way I want. However, right now I am in the territory of other gods and I don’t want to draw attention. I know from getting caught by the goddesses that creating an artifact will be noticed.

  Unfortunately, that means that even if I find materials that will work, I will have to wait until I get back. Not that I should need the pouch before then since it is meant to feed a dragon. It was just something to work on so that I don’t feel like I am wasting my time with this trip.

  I am half tempted to just leave, fly out to the coast, and see what the Maker is up to. Any other problem that might be causing this meeting would have nothing to do with me. However, since I already told Amn that I would travel with him, I have to resist that temptation.

  I think my best bet is going to be to feed my curiosity, after all I haven’t been on this side of the continent. I am sure that there is a lot I can learn and all sorts of sights to be seen. It doesn’t take much to rouse my curiosity, I was already getting curious about this desert we have to cross.

  Now that I think about it, I have actually visited this side of the continent once. When I first set out with the elves we came all the way down to the last port city on the east side. A quick check of the map shows that that city is part of the last kingdom we are going to visit.

  I am pretty sure that I was using my elven form at the time so I shouldn’t be recognized. Although, with my collecting of elves it wouldn’t be too hard to figure out it was me. Hopefully, the ruler of that kingdom doesn’t put much thought into it or it could get awkward.

  If they do figure it out, I will hide behind Amn and let him try diplomacy first. If that doesn’t work, then I can always threaten to burn down their capital or something. However, we have quite a bit of distance to cover before I have to worry about that.

  I should probably try to think of this trip as a vacation, but I don’t feel like I have earned one. Besides, I just had my honeymoon so I really feel like I should be working on things. I could be doing at least something remotely, but the network isn’t accessible from here.

  There is no way I am going to extend the network this far, but maybe I can figure out another way. The gateway network spreads this far, so maybe I can use that to enable me to connect to the network. The gate platforms all connect to each other, so if I can strengthen that, it should be possible.

  The trick is going to be to do it in such a way that I don’t need to go back and modify all the platforms. I just got done replacing most of them and I certainly don’t want to have to do it again. However, a spell like the one I built into the network might be enough to modify them.

  Then again, I shouldn’t need to modify them physically, just modify the enchantments. I should be able to do that remotely, but it is going to be a little tricky. The connections between the platforms are weak, they were only meant to guide the gates.

  That gives me an idea, I can open a gate to each platform and send a spell through to modify it. That will require a lot of mana, but I can reduce that by only opening small gates. It just has to be big enough for the spell to pass through, that is a lot easier than a normal gate.

  I’ve never actually made a gate that small, so before I move on I test it to make sure it works. It turns out that a gate about the size of a basketball is the smallest that I can make. Well, I can make one smaller, but it quickly becomes unstable and collapses.

  Now that I know that I can make the gates, I start working on the changes I need to make. Luckily, I have more platforms with me so I don’t have to try and remember the enchantments. Looking at one of them makes it a lot easier to figure out the changes I need to make.
