24 – City of Progress (2)

  lirvothethird

We headed inside, walking up two sets of stairs and then some before we arrived at her room. The door had a sign embossed in a yellow copper color with 'Annabelle' written on it. Anna is short for Annabelle it seems.

Opening the door, a room full of pink and yellow furls entered my eyes. A moderate bed on one side and a table full of miscelneous items on the opposite side. Two other doors led from this room, leaving me to wonder what was behind them.

Immediately after entering, Anna familiarly opened one of the doors. A chair with a hole and a lid. As well as towels and a basin attached to the side of the wall. A tub was there with a curtain. There was the same golden metallic sheen everywhere, with the circle with things attached in pairs.

  "What are these?"

She smiled with tear stains still on her face.

"That's a toilet, that's the bathtub, and this is the sink."

  "Toilet, bathtub, sink."

She turned the circle thing. Immediate, a stream of water gushed from the rod. Is the rod the sink, the basin the sink or the entire thing?

Started scrubbing her hands using the water, before turning a circle on a bottle, dispensing soap onto her hands. I just stood there and watched, as the difference in our culture was like night and day.

"Ehum. I've always been meaning to ask. What's this circle with things on it? I see that you twist it but why is there so much everywhere? It's like decoration for you. Also, this dull gold metal, I've never seen this before."

Anna patted dry her hands, before taking in a deep breathe.

"This is a gear. Do you see these spokes? They can interlock, one gear turning makes another one turn. It is an important part of how Piltover is. This is brass. Very shiny and very strong.

  Look here."

She pointed at the circle- no, gear on the sink.

"Red is hot water, blue is cold water. Do you want to watch?"

She rolled her eyes as I got pushed out. With how dirty I was, I decided to just y on the rug. The sound of water gradually lulled me...

A slit of sunlight hit my face. The ground is soft today. With that, I jolted awake. As I sat up, I remembered that I was in Anna's house. Something weighed down my arm. It was Anna, with a bnket on top.

"This silly girl, there's a bed and she doesn't use it."

After slowly removing my arm from her grasp, I open the 'wet' room. I cannot clean my body much because I don't have extra clothes.

"Wow, water at will. But there must be a cost right? Merchants want to add prices to everything after all."

I was slightly worried as I turned the blue gear, but it wouldn't budge. Only after turning it the other way did a stream of moderately cold water came out. Rinsing my face and arms, I shook my hands, sending water spshing as I turned the water off.

Walking back into the room I lightly shook her. She rolled around towards the other direction. I shouldn't bother her as she seemed like she colpsed in exhaustion after returning to her home.

Now where do I use the urinal? It should be in the room with the sink. I peered into the seat with the hole. A slight amount of water was already present. Use first ask ter, this thing should be the correct pce.

After washing my hand again, this time replicating the act of dispensing soap, I returned to her side to y down. I started to sort through everything mentally.

  "Awake now sleepypants?"

I poked her face after hearing people outside the house started talking.

  "Another five minutes..."

"Discipline and diligence brings you a long way. Like look where I'm at now. Walking almost the entire way from Demacia to Piltover. The earlier you wake up the more time you have the sun. Then you can save money on lighting."

"Mmmhm. I'm awake, awake now. Now help me up."

It seemed that using the ability of talking a lot can make people wake up. After all, they won't move, making them a living target.

Grasping underneath her shoulders, I pulled her up from the bnket just like a root vegetable. She had changed clothes yesterday, from the dirty dress into a blue pyjama. I sat her onto the bed.

"Why did you sleep on the floor? It's bad for your body."

"I only have one bnket. Yawwwn"

She stretched before heading into the washing room.

We sat at the dinner table with Anna's mother. Sunlight came in from a rge paned window from the back. Spread out on the table was an assortment of jam, bread, white broiled fish and every one of us got a small piece of butter shaped into a cone.

Me, I had some of the table etiquette beaten into me when I was younger. Who would've known I would be using it here?

I sat upright holding my hands in my p. I waited patiently for the owner of the house to take the first bite before I could start. Anna's mom proceeded to scan me and her daughter up and down. This went on for some time as Anna just stared at her mother.

"Oh, where are my manners. Let's eat now."

Anna's mother fanned her face using her hand as she said empty words. I was grateful however as I was eager to try out the culture of Piltover. I reached out to pick up a piece of bread when I noticed neither of them moved. She said we can eat so we can eat.

  "Thank you for the food."

I nodded as I smeared a purple jam on one side and a red one on the other. Covering it with a buttered piece of bread, I used the butterknife to cut it diagonally. The bread was so soft even a butterknife can cut through it.

I handed one triangle to Anna as she picked it up out of courtesy. The freezing atmosphere disappeared as everyone started eating. It was silent, with only the light cnking of knives present.

The purple jam was fruity, sweet and not the least tangy. The most outstanding part of it was that it tasted purple. Purple as a fvor, but when it overpped with red jam, the sweetness doubled, like the tangy fvor activated different types of sweet.

Next, I sandwiched the white broiled fish. But first, I tasted a small corner, when I realized no salt was added. Spying on the two bottles that vaguely had s and p on it, I shifted it over. No opening was found, so I whispered to her.

"Anna, how do you use this?"

She picked up the salt shaker as I flipped open the sandwich. She turned the top and bottom in different directions, dropping pink salt onto the fish. I pced the bread on again before sharing it with her.

Fish is fish, but without a fishy taste.

After the meal was done, the conversation began. Anna's mother started it off.

"What are you going to do with him?"

"Aerth will stay. I'm going to bring him to the academy."

"The Academy? They don't take pupils without prerequisites. Oh, you want to bring him to the Understanding Piltover css?"

Anna nodded and her mother stood up from the table to go to work without another word.
