Chapter 19

There wasn’t any conversation that happened after the Agreement was sealed, nor was there a need for more. So with a few pleasantries the guild members just turned and exited my graveyard and left me to my devices. Though there was a silent promise of more adventurers to come and so I should really consider what to do to both better protect myself, and to challenge them. I let a sigh escape me as I think back on everything that has happened over the last couple of minutes. The guild came by to make a deal, this church wants me very dead, and now the gods, which exist, now know I am here. It is certainly way too much for me to handle with this whole mess and only really……..no not even one proper defense.

I take a deep breath and consider the next options I have in front of me, I need to really figure out what to do. A part of me says I need to go deeper, but another part says that expanding outwards and would accomplish the same goal. I consider it as I look towards the forest in the distance to figure out what to do and I could hear something from that direction. Voices calling out for vengeance, or for help, and for freedom. But then something shifts in me and suddenly.

  Skill Combination Triggered

  Returnal

  Whispers From the Veil

Someone wishes to speak with you

  From beyond deaths embrace

I turn sideways, something interesting was certainly happening now. So I focus on that voice that spoke the loudest and tried to speak with it.

  “Hello?”

there is silience for a second

Then a weak voice that radiates an old but lost authority speaks.

Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

“you finally head us, dungeon.” The voice, male, speaks with a certainty as the vague outline of a humanoid appears in my sight, indistinct in features but there.

“yeah, sorry it took so long, there is so much happening all at once”

There is a stillness for a second before he chuckles.

“Ah, it seems I am mistaken, I thought you where a different dungeon of the dead” there was a silence for a second before he continues. “Never the less, dungeon, I have a request for you,”

If I had a brow still I would furrow it at that statement, was there another dungeon here that was destroyed or died. Or do these spirits travel around and I am one of the first to actually hear and listen to them.

  “okay, what do you need?”

“I would like vengeance” He speaks the words with a cold certainty, like this is just a normal thing to ask someone to help you with. I am tempted to just ignore the request with zero remorse when the man speaks again. “Do not worry fair dungeon, I seek not vengeance on the living, but on those who are dead like me,” That certainly makes me more willing and less likely to dismiss the idea off hand.

“I’ll need more details,” It sounds like something I might be able to do and more….is moral the right word even?

“my children, four is their number, they sought my throne for themselves. They betrayed me and sunk my home into ruin fighting over it, with only the people ending the battle by felling the four heirs.”

“And let me guess, you want me to summon them and punish them eternally using my skills?” It made sense, if all four of this man’s children where dead and spirits I could summon them and just command them around. It also felt a bit poetic to have those so concernd with power be forced to serve.

“yes fair dungeon, I wish them to be punished by you for while they have unfinished buissness with each other, no afterlife will claim them.”

It might be a good idea, and I certainly think that this man deserves some closure as well, but I am also unsure if this man is entirely innocent. But then the system comes in and decides to weigh in on the issue.

  New Quest Available

  Pain of a King

Use your skills to summon the

  four heirs of the king

and punish them as you see fit

  Reward

  The old King

  Should you complete the objective

the spirit of the old king will

willingly join you in your defense.

“you’re willing to give everything for this?”

The figure nods and I sigh, looks like it would be a really good addition to my work, so I nod to myself and agree to work with this old king to punish his heirs.
