Chapter 20

With that quest in place and my next goal in sight things start to line up better for what needs to be done, and top of that list is expanding. I already had a lot of space for the crypt while starting out so I had to figure out how to actually control more area. I started by focusing on my current boarders till they came into a sharp distinction between that and the ambient world. I confirmed that my boarders where hard cut where the bounds of the graveyard was but something didn’t feel solid about that. It was like drywall, it looks steady enough but maybe some force could break through it. Breaking it didn’t seem like a good idea though, in fact my instincts screamed it would be death the moment I do, so maybe I could push on it. I mean the best way to push boundaries is to start pushing.

So I took my [Aether], which had thankfully regenerated a decent degree since the outburst earlier and began pushing them along the edge of my territory. I tried to focus on the area where everyone walked but it seemed that it was an all or nothing kind of expansion. So I moved from pushing hard on one spot to pushing equally at every edge. The first thing that happened was that the squared borders smoothed into a sphere, well semi-sphere, but still it was more rounded. As I pushed I could feel an expenditure and looking at it, it seemed that it was likely a result of adding more to my boarders magically, since it had to get bigger aswell. From what I saw I wouldn’t be able to get the forest space I wanted but I could start working on something.

Considering what I had to do I had two options, make bodies for the ghosts of these Heirs, or find spirit creatures that they could be as mini bosses. This was going to be hard all things considered but I thought about what I saw with the king, there was a physical aspect to a spirit so maybe I could use spirit mana to make something. It was worth a shot all things considered since it would at the least tell me more about what I was working with. So I turned to my little experimentation room next to my core and begin trying to materialize raw spirit stuff. I don’t really know what it is so I have to work with just intuition but maybe something will come of it.

Trying to grab the essence of a spirit is really hard to do aswell, since my [Aether] wants to give it a more tangible form. It is slightly infuriating but I have to work around it as I think on what kind of spirits I want these four people to be. There where many types of ghosts they could be but I wanted something a bit more unique then wraiths and poltergeists. I wanted something more like an angry spirit, something that would be more physical consistently then what the spirits I have are like.

  Hmmmmm

I know that atleast one of the heirs was probably female and atleast one was male, since he didn’t use gendered terms for them. So maybe having a Bloody Marry kind of spirit of mirrors would be interesting, since there are a lot of reflective surfaces in a forest and on people, especially with swords. So I move to one of my more reflective surfaces, the remains of a sword that hasn’t rusted too badly and think how I can get a mirror spirit to work. The first thing I thought of was something that reflects the user and copies them, but that seems a little too reactive for what I want.

Thinking on it, I wanted to make an object that housed the “primary” soul of the monster and then they could hop from reflections that are within a certain range of the object. The thing that would make the most sense for that would be a hand mirror or standing mirror of some kind but I don’t have something like that on hand to try and experiment with. What I do have though is a lot of metal scrap and armor. So maybe the first I should make is some kind of warrior ghost. And the first thing that comes to mind is a suit of posses armor, and I definitly want it rusted but still useable, but most of the armor I have is just rusted through.

I am definitely going to need to work through that somehow. Looking at it I can sense my elemental move in behind my view and begin gathering up the best off armors to display in front of us. It all looked eaten into quite badly by rust, nothing here really screamed structurally sound, but maybe a bit of magic could help? I focused some of my [Aether] into the armor and I could feel it suffuse the armor slowly but surly, and as it did I could see and even feel it grow a bit tougher. I turned to my elemental and I could see there was curiosity in how he observed the effect. The armor was certainly stronger but not quite at the point I wanted it so I pushed a little more into the armor. While the look didn’t change It certainly seemed tougher, about as tough as normal steel even, despite having been rusted through.

With the armor suited, for the time being, maybe later I could get something better, I focus on my skills. Focusing on the combination of skills that let me speak to the king I tried to poke at the whispers around me. It didn’t take long before I poked my way to the king again, and in turn, he lead me to one of the princes. It seemed his spirit was extreamly hostile, it radiated an anger I hadn’t seen in anything aside from maybe the priests earlier.

“What do you want of me foul creature,” The hostility radiating off of him was impossible to dismiss, clearly he wasn’t happy with what was happening.

“I want to….give you a chance at life again,” That came off more hesitent then I wanted it to, and the spirit jumped at that.

“Give me new life, HAHAHAHAHA, alright, summon me and see what you will be getting foul necromancer”

I was a bit surprised, and my attention glanced to the King who just smiled a bit. I get the feeling this one is a bit stupid all things together. Considering all things and the fact he willingly wants me to summon him I start pushing the power of my skills into the spirit. I think he senses something isn’t quite what he expected but I just continue to work my power despite his sudden hesitance. I focus from myself and the skill to the armor and can feel him taking control of it, slowly filling out an empty space that wasn’t there until the spirit fully manifests within the reinforced armor.

The newly possesed armor takes a second to investigate his form and come to an understanding of what he is. He then looks around, a blade I left nearby in his hand in a second looking for who summoned him. I couldn’t see a face but could feel a murderous intent from him and I could tell he was looking for me. I pushed an intent to the Prince and could feel a massive wall of resistence from him and eyes snapping to my elemental. He raises a blade and moves quickly, about to strike.

  The blade never falls

  And he is Furious.
