Chapter 138: Moving On (2)

Before her, the land stretched vast and endless, rolling hills dipping and rising in vibrant shades of green. The magical morning sun draped itself lazily over the earth, its golden rays painting everything in a soft, dreamlike glow. The grass, glistening with remnants of morning dew, shimmered as it swayed, bending gently beneath the wind’s touch.

Flowers bloomed in clusters, their colors so rich and surreal they seemed almost impossible. Some pulsed with a faint silver luminescence, their petals shifting ever so slightly, as if whispering secrets only the wind could hear. Others curled inward, their centers glowing softly before dimming again, breathing in a rhythm all their own.

Towering trees stood further ahead, their massive trunks stretching toward the sky. Unlike ordinary trees, their leaves carried a subtle glow, faint specks of luminescent dust drifting from their branches like scattered greater stars. They shimmered in the light, shifting between hues of deep emerald and silver, caught between reality and something more.

Emma took a step forward, her boots pressing into the damp earth as she moved. The beauty of it all pressed against her chest, wrapping around her like a warm embrace, whispering the temptation to stay just for a little while longer...

  But she ignored the thought.

She walked on, slow and steady, the soft rustle of grass beneath her feet blending with the distant murmur of the wind.

Then, after a while, she stopped.

Turning slowly, she cast one last look at the land behind her.

The view stretched before her like a painted masterpiece, too breathtaking to belong to reality. The hills rolled endlessly, bathed in the magical sun’s golden light, their slopes shifting like the surface of a gentle sea. Flowers swayed in waves, their silver-lit petals glimmering as though they carried tiny fragments of the greater stars themselves.

Further in the distance, strange creatures moved, their silhouettes blending into the landscape.

Small, winged beings floated high above, their delicate forms glowing faintly as they weaved through the sky. Their translucent wings, impossibly thin, caught the sunlight at just the right angles, refracting it in bursts of color, like fragments of a shattered rainbow scattered across the heavens.

Fairy dust lingered in the air, suspended in twisting, spiraling patterns, painting the sky with fleeting trails of light that shimmered before fading into nothingness.

Beyond them, deer-like creatures grazed in the valley below, their bodies sleek and elegant. Their antlers curled like delicate vines, glowing with an inner warmth that pulsed gently in time with their breaths. They moved with a grace too precise to be ordinary, too fluid to belong to anything bound by natural law.

Emma let the image settle in her mind.

  One final memory.

Then, with a slow exhale, she turned away.

Her figure faded through the distance, her steps quiet as she continued forward, the land behind her growing smaller with every breath.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

  She didn’t look back again.

  Her journey continued.

  Once more.

  ****

The wind whispered over the mountains, carrying the scent of cold stone and untouched air. It moved in slow currents, winding through the jagged cliffs and caressing the edges of the vast, endless sky.

At the peak of the highest mountain, a figure stood.

She was still, unmoving, yet the wind seemed to shift around her as if drawn to her presence. Her skin bore a soft glow, pale and luminescent, like moonlight reflected on the surface of still water. Her hair, white as untouched snow, cascaded past her shoulders in silken waves, shimmering faintly as though cradled by the very light of the heavens.

And then, there were her eyes.

  Glowing.

A brilliant, ethereal white, mirroring the full moon. No warmth. No cold. Just light. Pure, endless, and unmoving.

  Luna.

She stood at the edge, gazing into the distance, her expression unreadable. Yet, if one looked closer, past the stillness of her face, past the quiet composure in her form, they would see it... an almost imperceptible sadness, lingering like the last breath of a dream before waking.

  She was watching.

Watching the path Emma had taken, the land stretching far beneath her feet, the road winding endlessly into the unknown.

She had been standing there for a while, unmoving, lost in the weight of her own thoughts.

Then, softly, an ethereal voice drifted behind her.

"You know she’ll be alright, My Lady."

The words carried a quiet certainty, gentle yet firm, like a truth woven into the very fabric of existence.

Luna did not turn. Her gaze remained locked on the distant horizon. But slowly, she nodded.

"I know," she murmured. Her voice was calm, steady, yet beneath it, there was something more. A quiet ache. A longing wrapped in acceptance.

Her eyes flickered slightly, her fingers tightening just a little at her sides before she exhaled softly.

"I just feel..." she hesitated, searching for the right words, "sad. And at the same time, happy for her."

The wind stirred again, pulling at the fabric of her gown. It billowed gently, the impossibly pure white shifting with an otherworldly lightness, moving as if woven from something not entirely of this world.

"Sad because she had been sealed in that place," Luna continued, her voice quieter now, as though speaking more to herself than anyone else. "Without memories of who she was. Without knowing what she was made for. All she knew was that she was a sealed deity, trapped in that place."

She paused. The silence stretched between her words, settling over the mountains like the lingering echo of something long past.

Then, after a breath, she spoke again.

"But looking at her now..." Luna’s lips curved, just slightly. A faint, almost invisible trace of warmth in the sadness. "I feel happy for her."

A light sigh escaped her, barely more than a whisper carried by the wind.

"Now, she has a new life. And she can live it to the fullest."

She let the words fade, allowing them to settle in the space between them, unspoken but understood.

For a long moment, she stood there, simply staring into the distance.

And then, in the quiet, a thought formed. A wish. A prayer carried only by the silence.

Emma... I hope you find joy and peace in this life.

I hope you find comfort in those you hold dear.

That you forget the old, which you know nothing of... and now live in the new, which you will forever have memories of.

  Her fingers loosened.

  Her gaze softened.

And as the last breeze curled around her, carrying her whispered thoughts into the vast, endless sky...

She spoke the words that lingered deepest in her soul.

  "And most especially..."

"The one thing I hope for you, dearest of all.."

  A pause.

  A breath.

  "I hope you find humanity."

The wind carried her words away, scattering them like silver dust across the heavens.

And far below, where the road stretched endlessly onward, Emma walked forward.. unaware of the eyes that had watched her, the voice that had wished for her, the quiet, unspoken hope that had settled into the very fabric of the world she now called her own.

A world where gods are made.

And where, perhaps, one could choose to be something more.

  Something human....
