Chuck’s hands were shaking as he stared at the stabilized combination of Jenny’s, Kristy’s, Colin’s and finally, his own blood. He injected the blood into the Hypnosite in front of him and not a single drop was rejected. During the process Chuck didn’t even bother encasing the hypnosite in glass to protect his human body. If this worked, his human shell would no longer be of any use to him. It would no longer be a burden.
As if on cue, Chuck started to cough and hack violently.
This was the last time he would have to deal with such a weakness, he could feel it. His body would no longer fail him and he would be free. Chuck couldn’t be more ready.
The hypnosite shrunk and changed color as it had for Colin and Jenny. It was resonating with the blood. Chuck stared with rapt attention. This was the moment that would display another failure if his blood was ejected during the change; Or maybe he would at last proclaim a success if his blood was accepted. He had been waiting so long and this one felt right. He deserved to get it right after everything he’d been through. This was his inheritance.
Moments passed and nothing changed. Chuck barely contained his excitement as he stared in wonder at the stabilized success in front of him.
His very own Hypnosite.
Chuck jumped with a yelp as an alarm started blaring. He checked the security cameras as he saw that damn FBI agent was inside of his base with a fully suited up raid party.
How had she found him? Why hadn’t the Gilbert stationed above alerted him?
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
A deep growl escaped Chuck’s throat. Nobody would stop him from reaching his goal. He was far too close to let anything get in his way. Regardless of the consequences, he would succeed.
Chuck dumped the Hypnosite and a pile of bugs into a trash bag and tied it off. He set a timer on his trash chute, sent a command to one of the Gilberts to immediately take the trash out of the lab when it reached him, then sent an alert to the rest of the Gilberts to attack the intruders and stall them as long as possible.
Without a second thought for anything else, Chuck activated the frequency to resonate with his Hypnosite.
All the planning, all those hours watching others accomplish something he wanted with his entire being but could never have, all those hours of slowly dying with an escape right in front of him that he wasn’t allowed to take for some sick reason; This moment would make every painful second of agony worth it.
For a brief moment, he thought of Merrin, but knew she would be fine. Nothing else mattered more than escaping his decaying body.
Chuck took a deep breath, focused on his destiny and with a final breath of elation, his human eyes closed one final time and he felt his consciousness transfer into the Hypnosite in the trash chute.
…
Chuck woke up feeling disoriented. Everything was thrumming around him and it was hard to understand or remember anything. All he knew was his own name and that he was hungry.
HUNGRY
There was prey crawling all over him and his transformed into a spider then snatched the nearest prey and feasted.
HUNGRY
There was movement and jerking all around him, he could sense further out that there were massive life-forms moving about, but he paid far more attention to the hunger that drove him. He feasted on every single bug that came near and before he knew it, the hunger faded. A new sensation bubbled up from below.
Rest
