The midnight wish

  Aditya’s Cabin

Aditya was still sitting in his cabin. His work was long done, but his thoughts… they hadn’t left Anamika.

He didn’t want to go home. Not when she was still on his mind like this.

He just wanted to see her once—healthy, smiling—before calling it a night.

But how? He didn’t know where she lived. He didn’t have her number.

The only lead he had… was Saaniya.

Her contact was on his phone screen. He’d typed the number but hadn’t pressed call.

He kept thinking, “What excuse do I even give? 'Hi, can you just give me Anamika's address because my heart won’t stop screaming her name'?”

  Yeah, right.

Frustrated, he put the phone down on the table and muttered, like a pouty kid,“I just want to see her. Right now! This minute!”

He glanced at his phone again and whispered,“God… can’t You just make her call me instead?”

  And just then—

  RING RING

Aditya flinched. “Woah… that was fast, God!”

But when he looked at the screen, it wasn’t Anamika.

  Aditya groaned, “Seriously…?”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

He picked up the call with zero enthusiasm. “Yeah? What is it?”

Aniket replied, “What’s with the attitude, bro? Chill.”

Aditya: “Just tell me why you called.”

Aniket: “I’m going to a party. You coming?”

Aditya: (like a whining toddler) “No! I don’t wanna go anywhere. I just want to see her!”

Aniket sighed deeply on the other end.“Knew it. Anamika fever is back, huh?”

Aditya: “Yes! And this time it's worse. After seeing her this morning… I can’t focus. I just want to know she’s okay. Then maybe I’ll sleep in peace.”

Aniket: “Well, sorry to say, but I don’t have a cure for your lovesickness, Romeo. I got a party to attend. Sort yourself out. Bye!”

  Click. The call ended.

Aditya stared at his phone and muttered, “Selfish jerk…”

  ? 12 AMAnamika’s Home

Anamika sat on the sofa, staring into nothingness. Her face was dull and tired.

Saaniya came out of the kitchen with a glass of milk.

Without a word, Anamika took it from her.

Saaniya raised a brow. “What’s this? No dramatic dialogues today? No late-night TV bingeing? Something’s fishy!”

Anamika quietly finished the milk and handed the glass back. “Just… thinking about this morning. I don't think they’ll want someone like me. I mean, who invests in a girl who freaks out over a raised voice?”

Her eyes held both fear and doubt.

Saaniya sat beside her, touched her forehead gently and said,

“Anu… why are you worrying so much? I’m here, right? I’ll fix everything. And you wanna know what I think they saw in you?”

  Anamika looked at her curiously.

Saaniya smiled and held her hand.“They saw someone real. A girl with a clean heart, who doesn’t hide behind fake smiles. Only someone like that can create a world of dreams like you do. And they know that. That’s why they’ll invest in you. You’re rare, dummy.”

  Anamika blushed and nodded. “Yeah…”

Still unsure, Saniya got up and switched off the lights.

“Let’s sleep. We’ll meet them again tomorrow, okay?”

But just as she was about to head to her room—

  DING DONG

  Doorbell.

  At midnight?

Saaniya frowned. “Who the heck rings at this hour?!”

She flicked on the lights and went to open the door.

The moment it opened, both girls blinked.

  It was Aniket.

  Looking… wobbly.

He raised his hand with a goofy smile. “Heyyy… why’re you guys shaking?”

Saaniya snapped, “We’re not shaking, you are, you idiot!”

  She leaned in and sniffed.

  Sniff sniff

“Oh my god,” she said, eyes wide, “You’ve been drinking?! How dare you show up here drunk! And how the hell did you even get our address?!”

Aniket lazily grabbed her wrist and leaned closer with a silly grin.

“Needed to talk, So I came. As for the address… you forgot? I’m a hacker, babe. I can see everything in your phone.”

He grinned like a child who’d just stolen candy.

Saaniya glared at him and yanked him inside by the collar.

“You better have a damn good reason for showing up like this!”

Aniket, without a word, pointed at Anamika like a kid blaming someone for stealing his cookie.

Anamika blinked. “Wh-What?! You came… to talk to me?!”

He started walking toward her with his drunk zig-zag swagger.

Saaniya watched him and thought, “If this idiot says even one wrong word, I swear to God I’ll break every bone in his body!”

  What does Aniket really want?

Will Saaniya break his bones or his heart?

And will Aditya get to see Anamika again tonight… or will the wait go on?

  Stay tuned to find out…
