The Faes gaze snapped suddenly to the floor in surprise, seeing something that no one else could. With a shake of their head they grabbed all the magic floating within the Tavern and started casting a spell.

With sword and shield ready for action,
He declared his presence with satisfaction,
A Kangaroo leap into the fray,
As a Demons head got in his way,
Cleanly speared without ever stopping,
Onto the next as it was still dropping,
The Duo acknowledged his arrival,
And pushed to end the Demons survival,
With flying arrows and two swords swinging,
And the sound of metal that was clearly ringing,
The fight progressed at a furious pace,
Soon no living Demon was in this space,
Then they turned and made their introductions,
And shared their mission based deductions,
The Gate stood there impressive and foreboding,
With pyromantic energies periodically exploding,
Through which they could see a black stone room,
The entire atmosphere felt like it spelt doom,
Together they went through to search,
Stepping over made their guts lurch,
The heat enveloping them without remorse,
Instantly the sweating began, of course,
Then the smell of sulphur attacked their noses,
Even overpowering the Lady's perfume of roses,
What greeted their eyes was an empty room,
No Demons waiting to send them to their doom,
All there was engraved upon the floor,
Were markings from which flames did pour,
Ring after ring of infernal magic was there,
Gazing back at all those that would stare,
After trying to damage the stones to no effect,
Further in they went, to inspect,
The Arched door at the end did open upon,
A land that no Sun had ever shone,
Blackened earth and towering flames,

And distant Demons fighting over claims,
Whichever Demon owed this place,
Wasn’t here to show their face,
So with care they surveyed the scene,
Too many counts of violence extreme,
Brutality and damage were freely spread,
Not caring of those they left dead,
There was no way to fight every Demon here,
Their infighting was the only thing to cheer,
Whatever this building was meant to be,
Upon its demise they could all agree,
Without the power to break the circles within,
This excursion was over before it begin,
Their skills weren’t enough for this,
As things were, their goal they would miss,
So back to the town they must go,
To find something to lay the flames low,
Breaking the portal that belched fire,
Declaring the whole world will become a pyre,
They ran with all their strength and speed,
To find what they needed so they could succeed,
Within the Town there was bound to be,
Something to untether the portal free,
So down the road they ran without stopping,
Until the ground disappeared, with them dropping,
Into a pit that is ever so deep,
With slides that are dangerously steep,
Filled with stakes pointed to the sky,
Sharpened to make everyone cry,
With mere seconds left for them to react,
Before a gruesomely final bloody impact,
Both the men's shields were quickly aimed,
To deflect the spikes that would leave them maimed,
While they were quick they couldn't completely clear,
All the spikes with their defensive gear,
With skill and luck they avoided dying,
But not because of someones lack of trying,
Minor injuries they had all sustained,
Yet the ability to move was maintained,
Now the problem of how to get out,
They felt it was unwise to scream or shout,
This pit was here for a clear reason,
Of which one was possibly treason,
—---
Waves of Demonic mana nearby,
Distorted the readings on ground and sky,
The missing thread was quite near,
That much was painfully clear,
So into Town their magic led,
From Mayor to the library the signs bled.
So who made the pit? and who was it made for?
