Even Lin dragging me to have dinner with the rulers and listening to political talk can’t ruin it. Although, most of what I end up listening to is Gremshow whining about us camping again. It is enough that I am almost tempted to let him use my cabin, but only almost.
If I were here alone I might consider it, but I would never inconvenience Lin for someone else. Besides, after dinner we are certainly going to want to have the use of our bed. On the way back to the cabin, I let Lizzy know that she can sleep tonight and we will hunt tomorrow night.
Of course, that will depend on the beastmen, I won’t hunt their territory without permission. I doubt that they will have an issue with it, but you never know until you ask. I will just wait and see how tomorrow goes, but I am pretty hopeful as to how things are going to go.
Whatever happens, I will deal with it when it happens, I am not going to worry about it. Honestly, I am just trying to distract myself so I don’t have to hear Gremshow’s whining. The thought of killing him has already been planted, no need to water it and give it fertilizer.
Although, I should really find some time to talk to Amn alone and see what he thinks of the idea. If he approves, then I can start planning how to do it without anyone being suspicious. Of course, I could just reach across and strangle him right now, but that wouldn’t be political.
It sure would feel good though, just thinking about it helps me get through the rest of the dinner. As soon as the dinner is over, I steal Lin away with me and flee back to the cabin. The first thing I do is check on Asuna and Victoria to make sure that they had enough food.
After that, I play with the puppy for a while until he gets hungry, feed him, and put him in his nest to sleep. I say goodnight to Asuna and Victoria, then I take the puppy and Lin and head into the bedroom. Once again the puppy proves that he can sleep through absolutely anything and I am grateful for that.
Lin and I have several rounds of fun and once she falls asleep I open the soulscapes. After that, I head into the hallway and head to one of the soul worlds I found before. When I appear in the world I find myself standing in a farm field, crops and all.
They are arranged in perfectly straight lines and luckily I appeared straddling one of them. Someone has obviously put a lot of work into this and I would feel bad if I trampled it. However, this certainly wasn’t what I was expecting and I’m not sure where to go from here.
Maximus is here with me, but somehow he appeared outside the edge of the field I am in. Frankly, I am just glad that he isn’t trying to tear up whatever these crops are. I carefully make my way over to Maximus, making sure that I don’t step on any of the crops.

Once I am clear of the field, I take a look around, but all I see is more fields full of crops. As soon as I am clear of the field, Maximus runs over to my side to get some affection. It seems that he doesn’t want to step on the crops either, which is interesting.
The fields are immaculately planned out, with cabins and huts stuck wherever there is room. What is odd is that there are no people anywhere in sight, no one working the fields. I am certainly no expert on farming, but I always believed that farming was a sunup to sundown job.
I could see a few of the fields being empty, but for all of them to be is just strange. Unless they are empty because of me, but that would be an amazing reaction time. They would have to have sensed my arrival instantly and teleported away to avoid my notice.
Just doing that would be seriously impressive, but doing it without me sensing anything is practically impossible. It is far more likely that there wasn’t anyone here when we arrived, or that they were already hiding. Thinking of that, I try using the sensing technique that I developed to spot Koko.
It reveals movements in the air all around me, there are people and animals all over the place. The thing is, they don’t seem to be doing anything to hide, it is more like I am the one hiding from them. I stop moving and start petting Maximus while I try to think through the problem.
After a few minutes the answer presents itself to me, through an accident actually. One of the human figures dies and disappears from my sense, then a second later their soul appears. The soul is now standing above where it died and looking around like it is confused.
It seems that this world is divided between physical and soul, and I am here on the soul side. Before I can try to figure anything out, a gigantic black raven comes swooping down out of the sky. It is aiming for the fresh human soul, but I easily snatch it out of the sky and shred it.
Rank 3 Soul Hunter defeated! 3,000 Soul Exp gained!
Loot: 2329 Soul Coins, 13 Soul Crystals, 2 Healing Potions!
The thing was called a soul hunter and it only appeared after the human soul appeared. What makes me curious, is the fact that it completely ignored me, it didn’t even try to dodge my attack. I am a soul, and as far as that goes I should be a fairly powerful soul, so why was I not targeted?
Not only did it not attack me, it acted like I didn’t even exist, like it couldn’t perceive me. It makes me wonder if there is something similar to a frequency to a soul’s energy. I obviously wouldn’t match the frequency of this world, which would explain why it was blind to my presence.
The human soul is still just standing there, so I turn my attention to it and start scanning it. It doesn’t notice anything, so I scan it as intensely as I possibly can. I keep scanning until I find the part of the energy of the soul that seems to resonate with the world.
I focus on that resonance and carefully map it out until I am sure that I can duplicate it. I have no intention of trying to alter my own soul’s resonance, that could go very wrong. Instead, I am thinking about creating decoys to lure out more hunters for me to kill.
The kill was amazingly easy, the exp was good, and the loot was fairly decent. If I can figure out how to bait them out, then this is going to be an excellent farming spot. Then, to my surprise, the soul that I am scanning just disappears and I open my eyes to see a fading golden light.
I have absolutely no idea what just happened, but all traces of the soul are gone. There is no sign that another hunter got him, but I have no other explanation for how it vanished. Something is going on here that I just don’t understand, I need more information.
