Ep. 1461 A New Adventure Part 1

Since we have the full day ahead of us, we keep our fun to just a couple of rounds. After we are done, I leave the girls to their own things and head down to my workshop. Once there, I start making more platforms since I am going to need a lot for the trip.

While working on making more platforms I also start working on the design for the remotes. One of my major concerns will be to make sure that they can’t be stolen and used by someone else. The best answer that I can come up with for that is to make each one unique to the user.

It is something I haven’t done before, but I quickly manage to figure out how to do it. As I am creating the gate keys for each of my people I decide to add Bella to the list. She is basically family at this point and while I doubt she will need it, it is always good to be prepared.

While I am at it I also decide to add Stillwater and Leonarr to the list, it will be quite useful to them. The downside is that the more people that are using the gates, the less gates will be available. The easiest way to fix that problem is going to be to add more platforms to provide more power.

The biggest problem with that is going to be making sure the platforms on the main continent are connected. That means that I am going to need to make sure that the land bridge is properly covered. However, the network is not going to spread that far, only the gate platforms.

I don’t plan to spread the network past the land bridge, I only want it to cover my territory. Although, I suppose that extending it to the southern empire’s capital would allow for better communication. I will worry about that once the rest of the network is up and covering the entire peninsula.

That reminds me, Lizzy is probably either running low on obelisks by now, or already out. Since I am going to go down to place more platforms, I should make sure to take her more. In fact, that’s going to be my plan for after lunch, so I make a quick trip to the quarry and pick up some obelisks.

The obelisks aren’t enchanted yet, but that will only take me a few minutes to fix. The quarry is producing the obelisks at a decent rate and it gets rid of the scrap that would just be in the way. Lin is probably still working on getting the enchanting organized, so I clear out the stockpile.

It would take a while if I were to enchant the obelisks one by one, but I easily figure out how to enchant them in piles. It is definitely something I should have thought of sooner, but it just didn’t cross my mind. Probably because I was having to shape them and just enchanted them as I made them.

Now, I just do the enchantments once and then feed extra mana to allow them to spread to the other obelisks. It is far faster, but it does waste a little bit of mana, which I don’t really mind. The time saved is worth far more to me than the little bit of mana that is wasted.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

With the obelisks dealt with, I go back to making platforms until it is lunch time. I head upstairs and have lunch with everyone else and then after I am done eating I gate to the land bridge. I pull up the map, pick the optimal spots for platforms, and start flying around.

I figure I can track down Lizzy later, if I don’t spot her while I am placing the platforms. With my mind made up, I fly around planting the platforms in the positions that I mapped out. I actually do end up running across Lizzy as I am on my way to place the third platform.

I stop and chat with her for a while, then I give her a good grooming and have dinner with her. I doubt she will use it, but I go ahead and make her a gate key and explain how it is used. After that, I hand her all of the completed obelisks and then head out to finish placing the platforms.

I finish placing all of the platforms and am about to gate home when a thought strikes me. There is something else that I have forgotten about that could turn into a serious issue. So, I fly across the demon territory, looking for the gate to the shadow plane that I left open.

As I cross the demon territory, I place a few more platforms in isolated, hidden spots. Luckily, even though I haven’t thought about it since I was last there, I remember where the portal is. However, the situation at the gate is much different than the last time I was here.

The gate is surrounded by demons and they are killing the shadow beasts as they come through. They are using the gate to power level themselves, one of the things I was worried about happening. I am really glad that I remembered about the gate, if I hadn’t this could have turned into a major problem.

Luckily, the demons are focused on the shadow beasts and don’t notice me as I approach. There are twelve demons and from what I can sense they are pretty strong. So, I reach out with my senses and take a scan of the gate that they are gathered around.

It is locked to the shadow plane, just like I left it, but the gate is still very unstable. To be honest, I am fairly impressed that the patch I threw on the gate has kept up for this long. Thanks to my new knowledge, I know that if I push some mana in here and then give it a twist..

  *KABOOM!*

12 Demons defeated! 1,200,000 Exp gained!

The blast wave throws me away from the explosion and I end up crash landing. It has been quite a while since I crashed, I have not missed this feeling at all. I was obviously way too close to the explosion, but I am not going to tell anyone that.

I head to the crater that is all that is left of the gate and spend a few minutes searching the rubble. I only manage to find five of the demon’s cores, but I am actually surprised to find that many. I quickly store them away, I will save them and feed them to my angel once I have it.

A quick check of my character screen shows me that I still need about three and a half million experience. I am actually hoping that the trip to the Magic Kingdom isn’t quiet, then I can get the rest of the exp I need. I really want to get this last level so that I can summon my angel and start leveling it up.

Even if nothing attacks us directly, we should be passing through areas where I can go hunting. I really want to hunt some normal beasts so that I can start experimenting with essence. It will probably be best if I start with weaker beasts and then work my way up.
