“If you can get me a map showing your route, I will take care of some things and then catch up to you.”

  Emperor Amn says “I have one right here. This is the path we will be taking.”

  “How long do you think it will take for you to reach the border?”

  Emperor Amn says “Two days.”

  “Alright, so three days from now. I will try to get everything handled and then meet you before you reach the border.”

  Emperor Amn says “Alright, sounds good.”

  Empress Atesh says “I feel much better with you going with him. Just because the Magic Kingdom made the call doesn’t mean it will be a safe trip. Traveling across most of the continent is never all that safe.”

  “I wouldn’t count on my presence to make the trip safe. According to my wives I am an absolute magnet for trouble.”

  Empress Atesh says “While I don’t doubt that, I do doubt that there would be any trouble that you can’t handle.”

  “Hopefully true. Alright, the sooner I get started the sooner I can meet up with you. I will see you in a few days.”

  After a quick goodbye, I retrace my steps down to the gate platform and take myself back to the castle. I quickly use the network to let everyone know what's going on while I head down to my workshop. Of course, I get a lot of questions, so I answer them while I work on a design for a new gate platform.

  Thanks to the knowledge that came with the dragon language I know that there is such a thing as void mana. Using it will greatly increase the effectiveness of the gate system, both in cost and range. I also need to redesign the platform so that it links into the network and has enough power to allow others to use it.

  I also plan out a handheld device, similar to the remotes, to allow the opening of gates. Mercy, Myria, Brightfire, and each of my kids are all going to need one, so eleven in total. Lin doesn’t need one, she is almost as good at gating as I am, maybe even better.

  I am really not sure how far her skills have progressed, we haven’t had a chance to compare notes lately. To my surprise, no one argues against me going on the trip with Emperor Amn. Most of them realize that it will involve politics and it isn’t just me running off because I am bored.

  Lin expresses her concerns about me going back to the Magic Kingdom, but I share them. I explain my theory about the disaster being related to the Maker and it being my fault. The fact that I want to go and deal with her does get some arguments from my wives.

  By the time I have managed to convince them, not only have I finished the design, but I have also made a prototype. I quickly activate it and test it to make sure that everything works properly. Once again everything works perfectly and I keep feeling that that can’t be right.

  The most disturbing thing is that as I analyze the prototype I can’t see any improvements that I can make. Since it doesn’t need any more work, I start making more of them as I continue chatting on the network. Unfortunately, the changes between this version and the old one are too big to just update the old ones.

  That means that I am going to have to gate around and replace all of the platforms. I also need to place more to fill out the area that the platforms cover and to add capacity. The platforms are going to need to have enough power to handle the creation of gates.

  Other than a break for lunch, I spend the rest of the day making more platforms. By the time I stop for dinner, I have made enough to replace all the platforms on the peninsula and add some. If my calculations are right, it will be enough to allow the girls and the kids to gate around a little.

  It is going to be limited to a couple of gates per day, but I think that should be enough. That amount will also increase as I add more platforms and extend the network. If there is unused power in the network, the platforms will be able to make use of it.

  That should happen more often as more obelisks are added to the network and they get upgraded. The power usage of the network doesn’t increase as fast as the power generated by the obelisks. So, the bigger the network grows, the more extra power that should be available for gates.

  Aside from that, the platforms are also going to gain the security of the network. That means that no one will be able to do anything to them and I won’t need to worry about hiding them. It is something I should have done originally, but I didn’t have the knowledge needed at the time.

  That and I didn’t really think about it at the time, I was focused on just being able to gate around. Me not thinking things through previously is the main reason I am having to replace all the platforms. This time, I am making sure to think everything through and to leave room for future improvements.

  I don’t think there is anything more that I can add, but that is with my current knowledge. Who knows what kind of things I might learn in the future that would change that. If there is one thing this life has taught me, it is that there is always more knowledge to be found.

  Lin calling me up to dinner breaks me out of my thoughts and I quickly finish the platform I was working on. I join the others for dinner and spend some time with the kids that are here afterwards. Once the kids are in bed, Lin and Bella drag me upstairs for some fun and after that I open a soulscape.

  I train with my wives and kids for a while and then sleep for a couple of hours. When I wake up, I start gating around the peninsula replacing the gate platforms. After the existing ones are replaced I start flying around to place the new ones.

  As I am flying around I stop in a few places to collect more stone to use to make more platforms. The sun is well up by the time I am done placing platforms and return to the castle. When I arrive I find that Brightfire and Albion are back from the island.

  I have breakfast with the two of them and listen to them tell me about the island. The changes to the island are already done and it is ready to be used as a resort. They are now planning on starting the planned changes to the capital, but they wanted to see me before I leave.

  The other kids wake up as we are eating, probably from the smell of food, and join us. We eat and then I spend some time with the kids before sneaking away with Brightfire for some adult fun. Lin wakes up in time to join us, but Bella runs away when I don’t shapeshift for her.
