Ep. 1390 The Hunt Begins Part 3

With a huge splash we both fall back into the water and the corpse of the leviathan starts sinking. It is too big to fit into my pouch as is, so I start cutting the body apart in the water. Surprisingly, even with the huge amount of blood that is released into the water, no sharks approach.

Although, it isn’t really sharks that I am worried about, I am worried the blood will bring its parents to me. So, as soon as the body is safely stowed in my pouch, I leave the water and take to the air. I figure I can search from the air, at least until I have left the immediate area of the kill.

I am fairly tempted to absorb its core, but I don’t think it has dragon blood and I don’t want to mess up my evolution chances. I will just hold onto it for now and absorb it after I have evolved. However, its heart is going to be my dinner tonight, it has been a while since I got to use Devour.

For now, since I am a good distance from the kill sight, I return to the water and my search. Not long after I return to swimming, I notice that the ocean floor is rising, which might mean I am close to an island. I turn to follow the rising floor, but before I spot an island, I spot a group of fish.

Each one is about the size of a dolphin, but the bodies of the fish look more like a tuna’s. Based on their heads, which are more reptilian and full of teeth, I am guessing these are the dragonfish. They spot me not long after and the entire group turns together and charges at me.

A quick count puts the number of them over twenty, but it is hard to be sure since they are grouped together. If these are the dragonfish, then I don’t want to let any of them escape, so I spread my mana into the surrounding water. I create a huge orb with my mana and separate it from the rest of the ocean.

I am inside the orb with the school of fish, but I have nothing to fear from any form of lightning. That being the case, I let out a lightning breath which disperses throughout the orb. The fish have no way to escape the orb and no defense against the lightning.

27 Dragonfish defeated! 675,000 Exp gained!

Once they are all dead, I release the orb of water and switch to grabbing all of the bodies with my mana. Then I lift myself and all of the bodies out of the water and take a look around. Not too far from me is an island with a beautiful white sand beach on the side closest to me.

Keeping all these bodies in the air isn’t easy, so I head over to the beach without taking a better look around. I pile up the corpses and then land on the sand next to them before starting to collect their cores. I put the corpses into my pouch after I have removed their cores, giving me a pile of twenty seven cores.

Now that I have seen the dragonfish I am a little worried about how it will affect my evolution. They may have dragon blood, but they are still mostly fish and I don’t want to turn into a fish. Unfortunately, I can’t know how it will affect my evolution until I actually evolve.

Now, I just need to decide if I want to take a gamble on my evolution, or risk getting more kids by hunting drakes. Out of the two, I think that having something go wrong with my evolution would actually be easier to fix. So, I take the cores and absorb them one by one until they are all gone.

Absorb Activated: 27 Evolution Points gained!

That is a little disappointing, only one point each and nothing else, they must be too weak. That also means that I am going to have to hunt and kill a lot of them to be able to evolve. At least hunting them will be easier now that I can scan for them with my mana.

Before going back to hunting, I turn my attention to the island and take a look around. It isn’t a very large island, I can fly across the entire thing in less than a minute. There is a small hill in the center, covered and surrounded by jungle that ends at the beach.

I scan the whole place, but there are no animals or beasts on the island, only birds. Other than the lack of a lagoon, which I can fix, it is the perfect island for the honeymoon. Now the only question is how much effort do I want to put into the island?

I could just set up something good enough for the honeymoon, or I could build something more permanent. In fact, I could turn the entire island into a sort of vacation spot for my family and the government higher ups. It would probably be kind of nice for them to get some perks along with all the work I am giving them.

I like the idea of making a permanent place here for people to be able to take vacations. Besides, I would probably end up making it that way anyway once I started. However, I can’t get sucked into the project and forget to work on my hunting.

The first thing I do is land at the top of the hill and send my mana down into it to scan it. Surprisingly, it isn’t volcanic in origin, which makes me wonder how the island was even formed. I send my mana even deeper to make sure there is nothing sleeping under the island.

I have had more than enough of that sort of thing happening, I don’t need any more lectures. I also want to make sure that this isn’t the back of a huge turtle or anything, that happens in a lot of anime. Once I am sure that it is safe and there won’t be any surprises, I start planning.

I am thinking that I will build the building on the west side of the hill to allow for watching sunsets. It will also be shielded from the dawn light, allowing for sleeping in, a vital part of vacations. That means that I will also want to create the lagoon on the west side of the island.

However, I am not going to start landscaping right now, I need to do some more hunting first. The one thing that I do before leaving is create a large obelisk at the top of the hill. It will cover the entire island and allow it to be added to the map once connected to the system.

The main point of that is to make sure that no matter how lost I get I won’t forget where the island is. After creating the obelisk, I return to the water and start swimming towards the land bridge. I spread my mana out to look for dragonfish as I place small obelisks on the ocean floor.

I place a line of them leading back to the coast, but I don’t detect any dragonfish along the way. Pulling up the map, I start east along the coast placing small obelisks as I go. Less than an hour later I place the last obelisk needed to connect the island to the system.
