Chapter 140: To Find Serenity

  Tama

I was in my underwear, but I didn’t really care. If anything, I wished I could take the underwear off. But Saki had been clear. She didn’t like just underwear apparently. But she would be so mad if I removed them too.

Instead, I scratched uncomfortably before sighing and deciding to look for my sword. Serenity was on the throne. That’s what Anna said right? But.. What was a throne? I noticed the lady in the maid outfit from earlier.

She was further down the hall on the right and was talking to someone rapidly. I blinked over to her. The man she was talking to was wearing golden armor like Tera started wearing when she became a Royal Guard.

“Nya! Tama wants to know where Serenity is!” I snapped at the lady. Both the guard guy and the lady turned towards me. The lady fell to her knees and started crying.

“Please Princess Tamaneko! I didn’t know any better! I was told to deliver that dress to you!” She was shaking and clearly speaking nonsense.

I turned to the royal guard and asked “Where is Tama’s Serenity!” My tail lashed angrily back and forth.

The guard looked at me puzzled. After a moment he coughed and asked “um.. Is.. Serenity a.. Er.. friend of yours Princess? If so, I can’t say I know where she wandered off too.. If you'd like I..”

“Serenity is Tama’s weapon and friend! Anna said it was on a throne!” I snapped at him. I was really upset. “Tama will find it herself!”

“No need for that Princess, please come with me. I will take you to your throne and your sword.” General Tully had come around the corner and was holding out his hand with a kind smile.

I blinked over and grabbed his hand. He winced but held my hand back. We made our way down the super long hallway. I tried to let go but he wouldn’t let me. I suddenly realized why he had taken my hand. “NO!!!!” I cried as we went down another long never ending hallway of doom.

After an epoch, we finally made it to the end only for there to be another!? I was going to die here.. Poor Saki would find my body somewhere in these tortuous buildings! I began to cry and pull. But his hand wouldn’t budge! A monster incarnate!

“Now Princess, please be a little patient, this old man doesn’t go as fast as he used to. I help your Aunt around the castle like this all the time. She is just as.. Precious.. As you when it comes to being in a hurry. Generally Tully said with a kind smile that made me stop and consider his words.

I decided to do something insane. I.. I walked down the hallway of doom as patiently as I could! I only tried to blink away a couple times! I.. lost count after twenty.

We finally reached a large room with staircases going up either side. “Okay, this is the foyer your majesty. We are almost to the throne room, then you are free to grab Serenity.” I jumped in excitement as we walked between the big stairs.

I remembered this! Parsnip has brought me here to meet up with Saki! We opened the large double doors and I instantly grabbed Tully and blinked straight up. A purple ball missed us as it flew right past where we had been a moment ago.

I blinked again to the second floor of the stairs. Why have two sets of stairs that went to the same spot?! I let go of him after making sure he was on the ground. Then I jumped over the edge and blinked straight down.

I appeared midair and blinked into the big room. It was the room with the big gold and red chair and large pillars down the sides. My eyes went wide as I saw a bunch of dead guard guys, Parsnip, and Saki.

Saki had her tails out and was holding Parsnip up with a sixth tail held in front of him. Even as I saw this, a dozen more of the men entered and Saki swept out her tail, knocking over a dozen of them down before she stabbed at Parsnip.

Parsnip noticed me and screamed “Princess! Your royal advisor has gone mad! Order her to stop this at once!” Saki paused her stab at Parsnip and turned to me.

She looked pissed and I flinched. “Tama did nothing wrong!” I said quickly. Saki’s purple eyes began to shift and after a moment they had turned green. She started shaking and she threw Parsnip into one of the pillars, fell to her knees and started crying?

I blinked over to Saki and grabbed ehr in a hug. “What’s wrong! Tama is here! She will protect!” I said. Saki hugged me back sobbing.

“It.. I.. I lost control Tama.. it was only for a second but.. I panicked..” I looked around the destroyed room.

“Tama doesn’t think you did that much damage. There aren't even piles! When Tama goes killing, there are piles of bodies!” I said cheerfully. My tail wagged as I tried to cheer her up.

She looked at me for a long second, then she began to laugh. “Of course you would say that Tama. But I think this is a little different, I literally killed a bunch of guards.” Her tail elongated and wrapped around her waist as she hugged me.

“You also almost killed me!” Parsnip cried out angrily. “You will be drawn and quartered for this! Treason!” Saki flinched. She glared and one of her tails expanded and earth coated it.

“You are the piece of void that suppressed the cure for the plague!” Saki said as she slowly let go of me and turned fully towards him. “You want to talk about treason?!”

“Actually, I was the one who told him to tell Xanaris no.” General Tully said as he walked into the throne room. He looked tired and shook his head. “I assume you met him, did he tell you what his counter measures were?”

Both Saki and Parsnip turned to general Tully. “Why!” Saki snapped angrily. The general just sighed as he looked around the destroyed room.

After a moment he responded. “Xanari has an entire army of golems at his disposal. His idea for plague counter measures was to use the golems to block off the plague areas en masse. He planned to run tests and possibly hunt the one responsible for it down. He claimed the plague wasn’t an accident and was clearly engineered. He blamed the Tamaneko’s for not fixing it.”

Saki started to deflate and I looked at him puzzled. “But Tama wasn’t here! Also, Tama didn’t cause a.. Thingy!” My tail lashed as I felt I was accused of another thing! Saki was right there! I did not want to get in trouble again!

General Tully smiled kindly at me “Not to worry Princess, No one thought it was your fault. A common complaint among the people of any kingdom is nobility being expected to fix every problem quickly. The truth is, we are outmanned and Xanari’s idea is sound. But doing it days before the coronation of you as Queen would be disastrous.”

I noticed Saki started to become paler than she normally was. “How.. How bad?” She asked as she pulled up an illusion of her being calm. The real her’s tail was lashing viciously and she looked like she was about to cry. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it.

“It really depends on how it was initiated. Based on the look on your face and that tier two illusion you just put up. I have a feeling it's bad.” His words seemed calm despite what he was saying. Saki was now on her knees and shaking.

After a moment she stood and pointed at Parsnip. “He is still..” She trailed off after a moment before frowning.

“Archduke Persip is guilty of many things, including being unpleasant. But he is not treasonous.” Tully said sadly.

“I am right here!” Parsnip snapped angrily “I will have you know I have never betrayed my kingdom and I would never! Regardless of the royales inability to lead correctly!”

I pointed at him. “Tama agrees! Someone else should rule!” The room went silent and Saki facepalmed.

“You wish you could get out of your royal duties!” Parsnip said. He rolled his eyes as he pointed at me. “This is why I have so much work! Every single Tamaneko is this way!” With that, he stormed out of the room past the general before calling out. “I demand recompense for my injuries! I am going to go see the royal healers!” and with that, he was gone.

Tully sighed and shook his head again. “That’s going to be expensive. Good thing we finally fired that air mage.” He looked over at me, paused, then looked at Saki. “I admit, you are doing better than I thought. The city isn’t rubble already. For a Kitsune advisor and a Tamaneko Princess. That’s better than I had hoped for.”

With that, he turned and left the room. Leaving us alone in the big ruined room and dead guards. Saki giggled, which turned to full on laughter as she fell on her back and started laughing maniacally.

“Nya! Saki thinks this is funny?!” I asked in shock.
