Taking a day to just quietly watch my spiders doing their thing, it’s quite entrancing how they move and weave. Frankly of the two the skeletal spinners is less concerning for me, they just kinda weave mana into their fine webs. They are also far smaller then the gem spinners, so that’s something in their direction. From what I can tell they are also just made entirely of mana so there isn’t any need for them to do much else but weave and absorb the death and spirit mana. The gem weavers on the other hand are massive and seem to need some extra form of sustenance. Though I can’t tell what that extra bit they are eating is, so there isn’t much I can do with that information. I have noticed them sort of clustering around the gems occasionally throughout the day. Their webs are beautiful though, sparkling like they are covered in dew drops but there is no due. I am genuinely curious what process allows them to turn the crystals into a thin web like this.
That aside the next thing to figure out with these spiders is spinning them into cloth from just these threads. If I remember correctly, there is a very long process of turning the thing into a thread then the thread into a product. Frankly I don’t really know where to start with that for spiderweb since they are already thread-like as it is. Maybe I could have one of the spiders start learning the art of weaving more then just a web, though I don’t know which set of spiders to do it. Something to put aside for now though since I have these gems to figure out too. With a set of proper gem working tools I can start putting together a creature to refine some of these gems and start maybe looking into enchantment. I check my [Aether] and can feel it pulse back that it is about at capacity but I should be able to support one last construct for this purpose with what I have. Gonna be a bit tight though, and I can’t really change in response to anything with my creatures capped out. However that is just the nature of things and I am going to have to work with it.
So with a deep non breath I focus on a chunk of stone and begin refining a body for my new gem cutter and carver. Carving out a room next to the gem spiders since that is where the biggest deposits of gems are currently. Setting the current monster in progress into the center of it I already know that to get the precision I need with these stones means it won’t have legs. That’s fine by me really since all I want it to do is process the gems for now, and that doesn’t need much movement aside from arms. The important part here is to embed the tools I was given into the golem, each tool in the set is a different arm. I actually have to add a few to make it work right, it gives it a very circular visual with several arms on a central pillar. Thinking on it I segment the pillar between the arms so that they might be able to spin individually.

With that set up I focus towards some of my skeletons and give them a small order to just help with whatever order I give this golem. The final step is to summon a spirit and embed it into the golem as the animating factor. For a second there is nothing and I am worried that it won’t take despite it going so well up until now. Then with a flurry of twists and the scraping of stone on stone the creation spins to life, arms moving wildly for a few seconds. There is a brief moment of chaos before the gem cutter golem slows down and then seems to settle. This will certainly be exciting, and if I wasn’t so spread thin on [Aether] this would definitely be a named creature but for now. Well for now I have a simple order for it, and that’s to begin carving out an eye for itself. I left a small indent on the topmost section where a gem would later fit, and I think it would be cool if it got to build it for itself.
The skeletons I had ordered here are soon to arrive, the two of them carrying four gems on them. Some quartz, rose quartz, onyx, and some of the emerald I have been keeping close on hand. Raising a round worktable for the golem to begin work I give it the rough dimensions for the hole in its head so that it may get to work. With it now busy I decide to turn my attention back to my kobold guests and see if they have everything they need.
They have chosen to take up residence in the empty entrance hall of the castle, which is fine, as long as they clean up. It hasn’t been too long so I don’t expect them to be heading out any time soon, though I hope they brought enough food and water. I don’t know if there is a clean water source anywhere near here and I haven’t seen an animal ever since I got here. That’s actually rather curious now that I think about it, but I simply file that away for later since it isn’t that important right now. What is important though is the seeming ritual that the kobolds are doing right now. The leader, who now that I look at his gear since he isn’t bundled in a robe so tightly, looks to be a druid of some kind. The way he moves and acts definitely remind me of them, the dancing around the fire does also set that kind of tone. Now that I look at it though, he doesn’t seem to be leading anything in particular, so It may not be a ritual after all, maybe a celebration. Not much to celebrate out here but who am I to judge about that. Aside from me Terra also has taken an interest in the goings on of the small band of visitors, opting to sit a bit away from them as he observes.
I can’t really fault him, from what I am seeing their energy is electric and infectious. There is a joy in the air that I never expected to see in a place that was born from a graveyard.
