Dear Risa,
Two days until the world ends.
Today Luke and I were summoned by the Goddess, and she gave us one thousand levels of water magic. She said she wasn't going to give me that many, but since she was giving it to Luke, why not.
Then she sat us down with a map and showed us how the water is going to move.
Basically, we have two jobs. The first is, when the continent cracks, hold the water as steady as we can. She doesn't expect us to be able to fully stop it, since we’ll be shaking too, but anything we do will help.
Then it’ll take four hours to get to another continent, and four hours after that, the water will all come rushing back onto our continent.
Risa. There’s more continents! There’s whole, giant land masses out there! I’d never imagined that. Looking at the ocean, I just kinda thought it went on forever. Sure, at some point I thought it had to reach back around to the other side of this continent, but I never even wondered if there was something else out there!
If I didn't get massively seasick every time I even looked at a boat, I might suggest building a really big boat and try sailing there. Just to see what it was like.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
I’d petition you for funds to build the boat. Ooooor, maybe you can take this idea and run with it. Find someone who really likes boats and ask them to go find that other continent.
Anyhow, after we talked about the important stuff, Bonnie mentioned that Luke’s parents were doing some work for her, and did he want to see them. So we got to spend like two hours catching up with his parents.
It was a liiiiittle awkward at first. I mean, I’ve known them my whole life, just, in the context of their son’s best friend’s little sister. Now I’m Luke’s girlfriend. But Emmy is just the nicest, sweetest person in the universe. She was so happy to find out we’re dating, said that she always knew Luke had a crush on me, and said that as far as she’s concerned, I’m already part of their family.
Luke’s dad mostly said that if Luke messes up and I dump him, Luke is gonna get disowned.
After that, we just talked. They say Fish is pretty destroyed, but Mom is doing a good job of organizing everything, and everyone is safe. So that makes me feel better.
When our time was up, Luke and I went back to Innsnose, and I finally understand why he freaked out the first time we saw the ocean.
It’s not like fire at all. The ocean is like a huge, lumbering entity. It has weight, and it knows how to use it. When it wants to do something, it knows there’s no stopping it. But Luke and I have to stop it.
Sooo yeah, I freaked out a little.
Luke showed me how to move water. How to slow and guide it. I’m no expert, and I never will be, but basically all I have to do is take over and expand a spell he starts. He’ll push the spell north, and I’ll push it south, and everything will be fine.
And then we’ll never do anything exciting again. This book will become very boring, I swear.
Boring Regards,
Maeve Zee
