96 - Innsnose - Cali

  Hey Diary,

I haven’t written in five days. We’ve been very busy with helping people sort through their houses to find things they can still use. Or, sort through what’s left of their houses.

It’s… very draining. Not super hard work physically, but going through a bunch of broken junk with the person who used to own all that stuff before it was junk is… Yeah. Draining.

I kinda wish I could just put everyone to sleep for the next four days, and have them wake up after it’s all over. That’s a very bad idea, though. And I’m not sure it would work. The big earthquake would probably wake them up. Charm magic has its limits, even at a stupid high level.

For chronological purposes, the big earthquake will be in three days.

I’m kinda scared. So far the biggest earthquake, happened super early this morning, was an L. I don’t know if it was just me, or if it was real, but it felt like it was hard to breathe. Like something about the air was wrong. And it lasted forever, so by the end everyone was freaking out.

A lot of animals broke out of the big charm spell I cast when it hit. They were scared enough fear overrode the charm. I don’t know if I should cast it again or not.

Part of me says I should. The animals are all fighting again, and that’s bad. They’re scared and panicking during earthquakes again, which is also bad.

On the other hand, if I cast it tonight, they’ll probably break out of it again before the big one.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Some animals, the smarter ones, realized that sitting still is safe. They panicked, but they didn’t move. Besides, it’s not like walking around is even possible with how strong the earthquakes are now.

So yeah, I think at the very least it’d be good to wait. Besides, it’s not like I’m trying to level up by casting big spells. If anything, I’m trying to avoid leveling up. Casting something huge onto everything in my range three more times might get me into Level 1048. Which, in the grand scheme of things, would be bad.

Oh, Maki got psychic magic, meaning he has dual specialties now. I think I said that already...

He told me Goddess Bonnie gave it to him at Level 20, which is where he has to be for the spells he wanted. But he’s noticed that the experience for leveling is split in a not-great way. The way it works makes leveling up extra difficult.

He admitted that he kinda felt I was weak for always being way behind them in terms of level, and apologized. That was nice of him.

I mean, I was weak. Leveling up is hard. But it’s nice for someone to acknowledge it wasn't my fault, and that I wasn't slacking off or anything.

Anyways. I put Trusty and True to work helping move walls and stuff so people can get things under them, and they weren't happy about it. They’re proud wagon horses, not common work horses. They feel no sympathy for anyone. It took me a long time of arguing with them for me to get them to do what I wanted them to.

I feel like on their own, they wouldn't be half this stubborn. But together, they just have this loop where one says something, the other agrees, the first one agrees back, the other double-agrees, and twenty minutes later there’s no convincing them of ever changing their minds except through massive bribery.

By the time we leave, there won't be a single apple left in the whole country that I don't owe them.

  …I miss Peanut. I hope he’s ok.

  Signing off,
