Chapter 5 - First of Many

  BOOM. CRASH.

I was sent flying all the way into a building, and through two walls, knocking debris everywhere, causing everything in my body to scream at me in pain.

"Shit. How am I still alive?" In response, that observant red screen flickers to life with the answer. I suddenly see a screen of 6 video game like stats but with no apparent base line.

[Strength + 10. Agility + 10. Mana + 5. Endurance + 10. Wisdom + 10. ReDaCTeD + ???] [Class: Shepard] "This just feels like a shitty game at this point. This is not the time or place, and what is with that corrupted text?" I groan, while feeling myself to check for damage.

Then suddenly the screen is overtaken by a new one. [Quest Update: Human: Ian is in grave danger. Rescue him ASAP. Time Remaining: 1 Minute. New Condition: Defeat the Ogre Leader. Rewards: 2 Single Use Health Potions, 4 Stat Points, and 1 Skill Point.] The screen disappears and shows a marker, standing right next to Ian. Through the holes I made in the walls from unwillingly flying through them, I see a beast, kneeling down, poking his dying body. I recognized this beast's stature, albeit different, from the vision earlier. It was an ogre, and one that was much larger and bulkier than the one from the vision. Above its head, red text showed, "[Ogre Leader, 'Izran']."

"IAN! GET AWAY FROM HIM!" I scream at the top of my lungs, while attempting to free myself from the debris. As I strain, it begins to shake, and I slowly move it off of me. "Atlas... That kit I got. Whatever its name, give it to me."

[Hero Starter Kit: Opening. Granted: 1 Unique Sword of the [Redacted], 1 Mask of the Fallen God, Short Hooded Trench Coat...] The list goes on, but Atlas ended up giving me a short black trench coat with impressive stats, along with some boots and fingerless gloves, the weird sword, some food, and some water. It all disappeared into thin air, and I found out about an inventory system through this. The sword was what looked to be a simple steel blade but I could not view the stats due to some more... corruption? And the mask, without any noticeable stats, was a smooth black mask, which was like a two way mirror, allowing me to see through one side and not the other. I put it away, and put on the other pieces of equipment. [Time Remaining Until Human Ian is Eaten: 13 Seconds].

  Stolen story; please report.

"Shit," I exclaim as I harden my resolve and start vaulting over the debris to get to Ian. I refuse to let anything happen to him. In a prayer like manner, I beg, to whatever twisted god allowed all this, "Please, I need something. Anything. I can't lose him." [Activating Unique Skill: *One with the Light.] "What?"

In a flash, I appear 25 feet in the air above the Ogre. Terror runs through my body, but then a feeling of reassurance and willpower courses through me. A willpower to save my friend. I raise my sword and stab it into the ogre's shoulder as I fall, feeling the momentum launch through my body, as I reluctantly keep it together. "Urgh," I painfully interject, as I quickly grasp the blade and try to leverage it downwards. Stuck. "Well that could have gone better."

The ogre howls in pain, stepping away from Ian as it tries to reach for me, hanging by my sword, stuck into its shoulder, but luckily on its backside. As it turns and sways, so do I, while I maintain a firm grip on that sword. Slowly, the sword begins carving downwards as the ogre moves, enhancing its pain and desperation as it flails, until finally the sword slips free. I hit the ground back first, sending a shockwave through me, and taking the air out of my lungs. I gasp for breath, as the beast turns to me, and in anger, lifts its hands above its head, and brings them down towards me.

I narrowly roll out of the way. "Need... to.... breathe..." and finally, I let out a full exhale and my lungs gasp for air. I stand quickly, and barely manage to take a back step to dodge another strike. I feel a wet sensation on my face, and as I raise my sword with one hand, I bring my free hand and feel my face. Blood. Gushing from my nose. At this rate, I might have a broken nose, alongside with whatever injuries I acquired from being thrown into a building. But it didn't matter, because if I thought too hard about it, I'd be dead before I could deal with it.

[User's body is stressed and will begin shutting down momentarily. End it quickly, Arthur.]

I rush forth, most likely to my death, but forth nonetheless. I grip my blade with two hands, and I sidestep as I strike at the ogre's arm the beast attempts to slam down on me. A clean cut, deep into its disgusting large arm. The monster shrieks in pain, stepping back as blood pours out of its arm. In that moment, I step around it, attacking behind its knees to bring it down. As it falls onto its good hand, and deformed knees, I vault on top of it and bring the blade to its neck, dealing a swift decapitation.

  "Please be dead..."

THUD. The ogre's head hits the ground. Followed by its body seconds later. BOOM.

Its rolling head and cut up body hit the ground, with me leaping off of its back, falling onto my butt, my sword falling away from me. "Fuck me. I call a timeout. Anymore and I am going to collapse." The exhaustion hits me all at once, but I force myself to catch my breath, and slowly stand as I begin to process the absurdity of this situation. I just killed a monster. But first, I need to tend to Ian.
