Chapter 11 – Disappearance

The rain was still drizzling down, and puddles had already formed on the ground.

After carefully jumping over a puddle, Ye Haoyu wiped the rain off his face and said, "Something feels off."

  "What feels off?"

Su Yuan also wiped the rain off his face, the wind mixed with rain making it hard for him to keep his eyes open.

The bell for morning reading had already rung, and there were no other students around. The two of them walked leisurely as Ye Haoyu said, "Everything feels off. What were those two people doing here?"

"That guy with the receding hairline looked like a middle-aged office worker in his thirties or forties. Of course... it's also possible he's a programmer in his early twenties."

"As for the long-haired guy, he clearly looked like a street thug. You could tell by his shabby appearance that he was practically drooling over anything valuable."

"Even if the Auntie took a leave, the school wouldn't hire such people as dorm supervisors."

The two walked into the teaching building, and Ye Haoyu put away his umbrel and continued, "Besides, the school doesn't allow phones. If they catch you, they'll confiscate it until your parents come at the end of the term... and he just gave it back to you? Without even verifying your name?"

Based on all this, Ye Haoyu concluded: those two definitely had issues.

Su Yuan nodded seriously, "If even you can see there's a problem, then there definitely is a big problem."

"Fuck, I'll take that as a compliment."

Actually, Ye Haoyu hadn't mentioned the most important point.

In the school, the boys' and girls' dormitories on the same grade level are connected on the first floor, which is why they're collectively referred to as Dormitory Building No. X.

Each building usually has two dorm supervisors, one for the boys' dorm and one for the girls'.

And now... it's one thing if the boys' dorm supervisor is a man, but is the girls' dorm supervisor a man too?

In this era of intense social scrutiny, the school would have to be crazy to do something like that.

But there was no time to think about this now; there was something more important at hand.

The two quickly walked into the cssroom. The originally noisy cssroom fell silent for a moment, as the students thought a teacher had arrived.

But once they saw who it was, the noise resumed.

The students gathered together, their eyes bloodshot but their spirits unusually high.

Some were analyzing and deducing everything that happened st night based on novels or supernatural stories they had read online.

Others argued vehemently that ghosts have existed throughout history, and it's just that ordinary people aren't aware of them, citing several famous supernatural incidents that made the news.

Some even cimed that the era of Spiritual Energy Revival had arrived, and the country would soon open up cultivation techniques, ushering in an era of nationwide cultivation.

Meanwhile, a portion huddled in the corners, trembling, their spirits shattered by the incessant knocking that sted all night.

Su Yuan walked over to Qi Yinhong's desk and tossed him his phone, "Remember to treat me to a meal."

Qi Yinhong's haggard face lit up with an expression of excitement akin to seeing his own father, "How did you get it back?"

"It was troublesome, to say the least... I paid a huge price." Su Yuan patted his shoulder again and repeated, "Remember to treat me to a meal."

"And me too!" Ye Haoyu quickly added.

  "Su Yuan!"

  "Hmm?"

At that moment, a clear female voice called out, and Su Yuan turned to see a long-haired female cssmate jogging up to him.

"Su Yuan, is what they're saying true? Did Mao Houwang really..."

The girl speaking was named Song Xiaoxia, an outgoing personality with good rapport in the css, and one of Su Yuan's few female friends at school.

Su Yuan nodded slightly and then sighed.

He really didn't want to recall the details of st night, but he still told Song Xiaoxia everything as it happened.

After listening, Song Xiaoxia's eyebrows furrowed slightly, but her face showed little surprise.

At the same time, she shared something that made the two of them shudder.

"You're saying that ghost thing went to the girls' dorm st night too?" Ye Haoyu's eyes widened.

"And you guys st night..." Su Yuan felt his heart pounding.

Right, the bckboard clearly mentioned Dormitory Building No. 3 yesterday.

But because there were no girls among the participants, and the entrance to the girls' dorm was only through the first-floor connecting passage, they didn't hear the "family members" going up and down the stairs, making him subconsciously overlook this point.

They were still trapped by conventional thinking; who said ghosts need to use stairs?

A trace of fear appeared in Song Xiaoxia's eyes, "Last night, the ghost knocked on our dorm room door first. At the time, Xiaoyao had just come out of the bathroom and thought it was the Auntie doing a room check, so she was about to open the door."

"But I stopped her because... how should I put it."

At this point, she hesitated a bit, "Yesterday, the bloody writing on the bckboard reminded me of some plots from infinite horror stream novels I've read, so I was particurly mindful of it after returning to the dorm."

"Honestly... when the door was knocked on yesterday, I felt like my soul was about to be scared out of me, and I screamed to stop Xiaoyao from opening the door."

"At first, everyone was startled by me, but then, since the person outside didn't speak, everyone thought of the bloody writing on the bckboard, so no one dared to open the door."

"Then, I also reminded the other dorms through my phone..."

"So, you saved several lives!" Ye Haoyu gave Song Xiaoxia a heavy pat on the shoulder, his eyes wide open.

Song Xiaoxia was startled, "It's not that serious, is it?"

"Of course it is." Su Yuan looked at her seriously, "If that thing got in, you'd all be wiped out."

"All those novels you read weren't in vain; the school should give you an award."

"And the girls in your dorm should take turns treating you to meals."

Song Xiaoxia gritted her teeth and kicked each of them, "Even at a time like this, you two are still joking around."

Just then, a middle-aged man holding a lesson pn walked into the cssroom.

Teacher Zhang's arrival quieted the entire cssroom, which made him pause for a moment. The students usually treated him like air, so why were they so disciplined today?

"Students, it's morning reading time; you don't have to be so quiet..."

"Teacher!" Li Ge suddenly spped the table and stood up, "I have something to say!"

Teacher Zhang was startled, and his usually good-natured demeanor turned into a frown, "Li Ge! If you want to speak in css, please raise your hand first. How many times have I told you..."

Before he could finish, Li Ge interrupted him again, staring intently at Teacher Zhang, and said word by word, "Mao Houwang is dead!"

A night's worth of pent-up fear finally found an outlet.

Su Yuan had imagined many possibilities.

For instance, Teacher Zhang might angrily question them about why they were making such jokes.

Or the usually composed Teacher Zhang might be so scared that he trembles all over, or even faints.

  But he hadn't expected...

The expression on Teacher Zhang's face went from displeasure to shock, then to confusion and contemption, and finally, only bewilderment remained.

  "Who is Mao Houwang?"
