Chapter 60: Right and Wrong, Gratitude and Grudges

"What are you doing here? Did you come looking for me?" Rulu looked astonished, very surprised by C.C.'s appearance.

"Of course. Why else would I risk such danger to come to a place like this?" C.C. frowned, looking at Rulu reproachfully.

"How did you know I was here? And was it you who caused that explosion just now?" Rulu asked.

"Didn't I tell you before? I can sense your location. As for the explosion, yes, I caused it... But forget about that. Hurry and follow me."

  "Where to?"

"Just follow me, unless you want to be captured by the Sanctuary people." C.C. looked around and then moved quickly through the dark alley.

Rulu didn't ask any more questions. He followed C.C. through the alley. After a while, they came to a sewer entrance on the street. C.C. crouched down, pushed aside a circular manhole cover with effort, and quickly climbed inside.

"I see. We can escape through the sewers. The armored troops are larger than humans and can't easily enter the sewers to pursue us. Even if we encounter Sanctuary soldiers inside, I can handle them." Rulu understood and immediately followed C.C. into the sewer, closing the manhole cover behind them.

The two then moved quickly through the city's sewer system. Fortunately, they didn't encounter any Sanctuary soldiers afterward. They left the sewer at a safe location, acquired a car nearby, and drove to the Blue Sea City Cemetery. They then walked to a forest in the cemetery.

"Good, we should be safe here." Rulu stopped in the forest of the cemetery, leaning against a large tree trunk, breathing heavily. C.C. was also quite exhausted and similarly leaned against the trunk to rest.

After a while, Rulu recovered. He looked at C.C. beside him and said: "C.C., thanks to you. Without your help, I wouldn't have survived today."

"Rulu, you fool!" C.C. said forcefully. She looked very angry. "I told you before that this was a trap. I didn't expect you to actually go and try to assassinate Prince Su Wen. Don't you realize that doing this not only harms yourself but also harms me and, even worse, Nana!"

Hearing this, Rulu was first stunned, then became angry himself, saying loudly: "C.C., you have no right to say that. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have taken such a big risk to assassinate him. It's you who forced me down this path."

"Ah, what does this have to do with me?!" C.C. asked in surprise.

"You still say it has nothing to do with you?!" Rulu said angrily. "If you hadn't refused to provide me with any information, insisting on maintaining your so-called neutrality, I wouldn't have been driven to such desperate measures and wouldn't have needed to take such a big risk to assassinate Prince Su Wen."

C.C.'s face stiffened. She defended herself, saying, "Even so, you didn't have to do this. If you had just stayed hidden, Prince Su Wen would have had no way to deal with you. You didn't necessarily have to kill Prince Su Wen, did you?"

"It is necessary, and it must be done." Rulu said viciously. "Now I just want to ask you, C.C., are you on my side or not? If you're not on my side, why did you come to save me just now? What are you thinking?"

C.C. hesitated for a moment, then said: "I only know that Rulu, you cannot die. I need you to do something for me in the future. As for everything else, it's none of my concern."

Rulu snorted coldly and said: "Right, you saved me only because you want me to help you accomplish something in the future. But I can tell you frankly, I'm going against the entire Sanctuary, and I'm willing to sacrifice my life if necessary. What happened tonight will happen again in the future. I won't stop until I achieve my goal."

C.C. stared at Rulu, carefully observing his facial expressions. When she realized Rulu was serious, she sighed and said softly: "Why do you insist on this? You yourself are from the Sanctuary, even a prince of the Sanctuary. Why do you hate the Sanctuary so much?"

"You want to know? Fine, I'll tell you." Rulu's eyes flashed with hatred as he said in a low voice: "Seven years ago, my mother and sister were assassinated in the Sanctuary. Only I escaped. The perpetrators of that assassination were mainly members of the Sanctuary's royal family, including that Su Wen."

"I see. So that's why you want revenge against the Sanctuary. You want revenge against the royal family members."

"No, my target is not just these people. My target is the entire Sanctuary, especially the Emperor of the Sanctuary."

"Ah, isn't he your father? And he wasn't the one who killed your mother and sister, was he?"

"Hmph, although he didn't kill my mother and sister, he's not much better. After my mother and sister died, I went to that Emperor, asking him to capture the killers and not to spare anyone involved in that assassination. Guess how that Emperor answered me."

  "What did he say?"

"That... that Emperor said there was no need." Rulu said through gritted teeth. "He said my mother and sister deserved to die because they were too weak, which is why they were so easily killed. Otherwise, why were other people in the Sanctuary living well, and only they died?"

C.C. pondered and said: "Hmm, that is indeed a bit excessive, but it does sound like something he would say."

Rulu continued: "I asked that Emperor if he ever loved my mother. If he didn't love my mother, why did he bring her to the Sanctuary? That man said that to him, my mother was just an object. He thought this object had some value, which is why he brought her to the Sanctuary and kept her by his side. However, my mother's death proved that his view was wrong. My mother had no value at all. Such a person was not worthy of staying by his side or in the Sanctuary. He would not make the same mistake again."

"Is that so..." C.C. sighed lightly, not knowing what to say.

Rulu punched the tree trunk forcefully and said dejectedly: "That Emperor... that man never loved my mother or my sister. He's not worthy of being a father. In his eyes, people without value shouldn't stay in the Sanctuary. To stay in the Sanctuary, one must prove they are stronger than others. Only by defeating and killing more people can one gain that man's recognition. Only victors have the right to stay in the Sanctuary and obtain immortality."

C.C. said: "Although this is a bit cruel, natural selection and survival of the fittest—isn't this how the world works? Don't you all adhere to the same theory?"

"So being weak is a sin? My mother and sister deserved to be killed? Do you know, my sister was so lovely, just like Nana—gentle, considerate, and caring for others. She didn't hate anyone and only thought of others. Why did she have to die while those despicable people who killed her can live? I absolutely refuse to accept this. That Emperor must pay for his actions. I want to make him know that what he says is not the truth. He doesn't deserve to be the Emperor of the Sanctuary. He has no right to control this world."
