Chapter 27: Sanctuarys Secret

"Hey, Kallen, you're actually doing what he says? Aren't you usually strong-willed? Where did your self-respect go?" A-Bing, seeing Kallen really giving Rulu a back massage, couldn't help but mock her. Kallen seemed not to hear A-Bing's words and continued to focus on massaging Rulu's back and shoulders.

"It seems this power works on Kallen, but why doesn't it affect A-Bing?" Rulu thought to himself. He had just tried using the Spiritual-power he obtained from the green-haired girl to control both Kallen and A-Bing.

"Let me try again." Rulu concentrated more intensely, focusing most of his attention on A-Bing. Staring into A-Bing's eyes, he commanded: "Go get me a glass of water!"

A-Bing's face froze, and he murmured: "Understood." He walked to a nearby wooden table, picked up the water pitcher, poured a glass of water, walked to Rulu's side, and handed it to him.

"Hey, A-Bing, what are you doing? Does Rulu really need your help to pour water?!" Kallen looked at A-Bing strangely. Since Rulu had shifted his focus to A-Bing, she had stopped massaging Rulu's back and shoulders, and seemed to have forgotten that she had just been giving Rulu a massage.

"This time I could control A-Bing but not Kallen anymore, though I was clearly able to control her just now. That's strange. Could it be... this power can only control one person at a time?"

Rulu thought to himself, ceasing his use of Spiritual-power to control A-Bing. A-Bing shook his head, looked at the glass of water in his hand confusedly, then drank it himself.

"This won't do. I need to test this again. To return to the concession area with Nana, I'll need to rely on this power. If I don't understand how it works, that could be problematic." After a little while, Rulu looked at Kallen again and said to her: "Kallen, my legs are a bit sore. Could you massage them for me?"

"Huh? Rulu, are you... are you serious?" Kallen blinked, looking at Rulu with a strange expression, as if seeing him for the first time.

"It didn't work on Kallen this time either, but I was only trying to control her?" Rulu grew more confused. He then looked at A-Bing and said to him: "A-Bing, come massage my feet."

A-Bing glared at Rulu, saying angrily: "What did you say? You want me to massage your feet? Do you take me for your servant? If you keep talking nonsense, even if you are an Ultra-capable, I'll hit you."

"It didn't work on A-Bing this time either, but just now this power was effective on both of them. Could it be... this power can only be used once on the same person?" Thinking this, Rulu said to A-Bing and Kallen: "Forget what I just said. I was only joking, though it doesn't seem to be a very good joke."

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

A-Bing said indignantly: "Your joke was really poor. Don't joke like that again, or I'll truly get angry."

Kallen sighed in relief, patting her chest and saying: "I thought so. How could you ask me to do such things, Rulu? After all, our relationship hasn't reached that level yet. Please don't say such misleading things in the future."

"Alright, I get it," Rulu replied casually, while continuously pondering the use of this Spiritual-power.

Since Captain Guan hadn't returned yet, the three continued waiting in the cave. After a while, a news item from the radio caught their attention:

"Now we have another special news report, also related to the terrorist attack in Blue Sea City a few days ago. Due to the unfortunate death of the Blue Sea City governor in the terrorist attack, Sanctuary has made a decision to appoint His Highness Prince Su Wen, the 536th Prince of Sanctuary, as the new governor of Blue Sea City.

According to relevant sources, Prince Su Wen is over eighty years old, which is quite advanced for ordinary people, but relatively young in Sanctuary. Many of the Emperor's children still at his side are over a hundred years old, some even over two hundred. The Emperor himself is older than the Sanctuary Empire. In a few days, Prince Su Wen will officially arrive in Blue Sea City to assume the position of governor..."

Hearing this, A-Bing couldn't help but exclaim: "Damn, are these Sanctuary people monsters? Living for hundreds of years?!"

Kallen said disdainfully: "Hmph, I don't believe they can live that long. They must be lying to make others think they're powerful."

A-Bing replied: "But I've heard many people say Sanctuary people are immortal. And Kallen, you don't have evidence they're lying."

Kallen didn't know how to respond to A-Bing's point. Suddenly, she thought of something and looked at Rulu: "That's right, Rulu, you seem to know a lot about Sanctuary. Tell me, are Sanctuary people really immortal?"

"Uh, I'm not too clear about this either..." Rulu didn't want to discuss these topics and replied evasively.

"You definitely know. Please tell me? Are you feeling tired? Let me give you a massage." Kallen pleaded, moving her stool beside Rulu and grabbing his thigh, squeezing it firmly.

"Not so hard, it... it hurts! Stop—stop, I'll tell you." Unable to resist Kallen's persistence, Rulu started to speak:

"They're not exactly immortal, but in Sanctuary, there are indeed special methods to make people ageless. Even people who are one or two hundred years old look like they're in their thirties or forties, or even younger."

"What? This is actually true?" Kallen was greatly surprised. She brought her face close to Rulu's, staring into his eyes from a short distance, and said: "Those Sanctuary guys are really that powerful? They can achieve agelessness and eternal youth? Does... does that make them gods?!"

"Kallen, don't put your face so close. And you're almost drooling."

"Don't change the subject. Hurry up and tell me." Kallen wiped the corner of her mouth and grabbed Rulu's shoulders, shaking him repeatedly.

"Well... calling them gods would be excessive. Actually, Sanctuary people are Ultra-capable like you, Kallen. They're no different from you and me. Most of their Psionic powers aren't as strong as mine or yours. The reason they can live long is simply because Sanctuary's environment is special. Once they leave Sanctuary, their lifespan is no different from ordinary people. After a few decades, they'll rapidly age and die."
