Chapter 24: Escape

Rulu remembered that Captain Guan had mentioned waiting for him in a nearby village, so he continued walking under the night sky, searching for the village Captain Guan had mentioned.

Since it was late at night and Rulu was unfamiliar with the area, it took him nearly two hours to find the village Captain Guan had mentioned, arriving at its entrance.

"Who's there?!" someone suddenly asked from the darkness. Rulu felt the voice was somewhat familiar, sounding very much like A-Bing from the rebel forces, so he responded: "It's me, Rulu. Are you people from the rebel forces?"

"Is it Rulu? You're actually alright?!" came a male voice from the darkness that sounded very much like Captain Guan. Following this voice, light began to appear around.

Rulu looked toward the light and saw about ten to fifteen people sitting in a field near the village entrance. Although the light was dim and he couldn't clearly see their faces at first, Rulu guessed these were Captain Guan and his group who had escaped from the underground tunnel earlier.

"Rulu, I thought I'd never see you again..." an excited female voice came from the field. Rulu looked toward the sound and saw a woman crawling out of the field, stumbling toward him.

"Nana!" Rulu immediately recognized this woman as Nana. He called out joyfully and rushed toward her.

As they met, Nana opened her arms, wanting to embrace Rulu, but suddenly remembered something, her face turned red, and she didn't embrace him, only tightly grabbing his hands.

"Rulu, I waited so long without seeing you. I thought you were going to leave me alone, that I'd never see you again," Nana said with a sad expression, very emotionally.

"How could that be? I'm here now, aren't I?" Rulu smiled as he spoke.

Nana's gaze fell on Rulu's body. When she saw that Rulu was covered in dirt and had bruises on his face, she couldn't help but reach out to touch his face, asking concernedly: "Rulu, you're injured. Is it serious?"

"No, just some superficial wounds. Don't worry, Nana," Rulu smiled, deliberately acting as if everything was fine.

"You're lying. Where else are you hurt? Is it your shoulder or your back? Let me see," Nana said anxiously, reaching out to feel around Rulu's body. Rulu didn't resist, not wanting to worry Nana too much.

"Hey, Rulu, you're really amazing. Those two terrible old men—I couldn't beat them, yet you came out without a scratch?!" a lively young female voice sounded. With this voice, a red-haired young woman appeared not far away, smiling as she walked quickly to Rulu's side.

"It's Kallen," Rulu said, grabbing Nana's hand and turning toward the red-haired woman.

By now, Kallen had removed her red armor. She wore a tight-fitting red outfit, and probably due to regular exercise, her figure looked very toned, with a kind of athletic beauty similar to fitness athletes.

"Well, I didn't realize Kallen that you have quite a nice figure. At first, I thought you were all muscle, but surprisingly, you're quite feminine. I'm seeing you in a new light," Rulu said, examining Kallen for a moment, offering his critique.

"What... what nonsense are you talking about? Really, it's completely uncalled for," Kallen froze, a blush appearing on her face as she uncomfortably placed her hand on her chest and turned to face Rulu sideways.

"Hahaha, so Kallen can get embarrassed too! Usually, you're so straightforward, but you actually have a feminine side as well," A-Bing let out a teasing laugh as he, along with Captain Guan and other rebels, walked toward Rulu.

"Shut up, or I'll make you regret it," Kallen said fiercely to A-Bing, who wisely closed his mouth and didn't speak further.

"Kallen, how are your injuries?" Rulu asked, remembering that Kallen had been hit by a large rock controlled by the white-haired elderly man.

"I'm much better now. It was really dangerous at the time. If I had been hit by that large rock again, I might have died there. Thanks to you, Rulu," Kallen exhaled deeply, speaking as if still haunted by the memory.

"No need to thank me. That white-haired old man was probably a level-five magic Ultra-capable. He could control the gravity of other objects to attack people. He was very powerful, indeed difficult to deal with," Rulu said, feeling a bit fearful as he recalled that he had also nearly died at the hands of that white-haired old man.

At this moment, Captain Guan came to Rulu's side and said: "Rulu, those two old men were so formidable. How did you manage to escape from them?"

Rulu was momentarily taken aback, remembering the green-haired girl he had encountered in the underground cavern and the strange power she had given him. Since the incident was too extraordinary, Rulu felt uncomfortable explaining it openly, so he vaguely said:

"It's a complicated matter. I was very fortunate to escape from there. I'll explain the details later."

Captain Guan nodded: "That's fine. I'm just glad you're safe, Rulu. Although we've now left the concession area, Sanctuary's troops might still come outside the concession area to hunt us down. It would be better for us to quickly move to a safer place. There's a secret base of our rebel forces nearby. It's a remote and hard-to-find location. Rulu, Nana, why don't you come there with us?"

Rulu felt Captain Guan's suggestion was reasonable and said: "Let's do as Captain Guan says."

Captain Guan said: "I've already found two new vehicles. If there's nothing else, let's get going now."

"Good, thank you for your trouble, Captain Guan."
