Chapter 18: Shadow in the Tunnel

At this moment, Rulu remembered something and asked, "Captain Guan, what's the situation with Sanctuary's troops?"

"Sanctuary's troops? They seem to be retreating," Captain Guan looked toward the underground tunnel entrance. The six vehicles and Sanctuary's regular soldiers were withdrawing along the road, away from the rebels.

"That's for the best. Otherwise, I would have more blood on my hands," Rulu murmured. He had intended to burn all of Sanctuary's troops, but now that they were leaving on their own, he wouldn't need to kill anymore.

Afterward, Captain Guan used a communicator to contact others. A little while later, another roofless armored vehicle arrived. Everyone was delighted to hear that the Governor was dead and Sanctuary's troops had retreated. When they learned that the Governor had been killed by Rulu, they were all surprised and looked at Rulu with respect in their eyes.

"Rulu, you really are my good brother! I wasn't wrong about you. I'm proud of you!" A-Bing affectionately put his arm around Rulu's neck, smiling as he spoke.

"But A-Bing, didn't you just say this Rulu guy was very conceited and annoying? Why have you changed your tune now?" the long-haired woman called Fox teased.

A-Bing's face froze. He defended himself: "No, I didn't say that. Actually, I admire smart, capable people like Rulu. From now on, we're all on the same side. Rulu, if you have any difficulties, we'll all help you. Isn't that right, everyone?"

"Yes, Rulu truly lives up to being a magic Ultra-capable. He's really amazing! With him here, those Sanctuary guys are no match for us at all."

"Why don't you join our rebel forces, Rulu? We can fight side by side against Sanctuary in the future."

Other rebels also praised Rulu, expressing their friendliness toward him.

Faced with everyone's words, Rulu just smiled and said: "Thank you all for your kindness. Let's leave these matters for later. Right now, our first priority is to leave the concession area as quickly as possible."

Captain Guan said loudly: "Alright, everyone, stop talking. Get ready, we're leaving immediately."

Everyone agreed, and then the two armored vehicles and Kallen's red armored trooper set off together, entering the dark underground tunnel entrance ahead.

The underground tunnel was very spacious; even two large trucks could drive side by side without feeling crowded. The underground tunnel had many intersecting paths, like a maze with numerous branches.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Captain Guan was very familiar with the environment in the underground tunnel and knew exactly which direction to take at each fork in the road. As they drove a certain distance in the tunnel, they would encounter a steel gate blocking their way.

At these times, Captain Guan would get off the vehicle and swipe a special card on the electronic device next to the gate, and the gate would open automatically, allowing them to continue forward.

The two armored vehicles drove with their headlights on, moving steadily through the underground tunnel.

Captain Guan said: "Now we can relax. There are no Sanctuary troops stationed in this underground tunnel, and the environment here is very complex. Even if Sanctuary troops enter from outside to chase us, they would find it difficult to locate us. In just over an hour, we'll be able to leave the concession area."

Rulu squeezed Nana's hand beside him and said softly: "Nana, did you hear that? We're safe now. You don't need to worry or be afraid anymore."

Nana nodded and said softly: "No matter what happens, as long as you're by my side, Rulu, I won't be afraid."

Rulu felt warmth in his heart, thinking that he was now Nana's only support. He must not let her down. He said gently: "Don't worry, I will always stay by your side, Nana. I will never leave you."

Nana softly responded with an "Mm" and rested her head on Rulu's shoulder, a relieved smile appearing on her face.

Kallen, watching this scene, was quite surprised. She thought that Rulu had been so fierce just now, like a demon, directly burning the Governor alive, but now he was so gentle. She really couldn't understand him.

The group continued through the underground tunnel. Nothing happened during this time. Before they knew it, an hour had passed, and they were very close to the tunnel exit. At that moment, something happened—in the distant tunnel ahead, there seemed to be light coming through.

"There's light ahead. Something seems to be coming!" someone pointed at the tunnel ahead and shouted.

Both armored vehicles stopped. Captain Guan asked puzzledly: "What's going on? This underground tunnel is sealed off. Normally, there shouldn't be anyone here. Could it be Sanctuary troops?"

A-Bing said: "No way, how could Sanctuary troops be here? Even if they're chasing us from outside, they shouldn't be this fast, right?"

Kallen asked: "Should we continue forward? Are there any other exits nearby?"

Captain Guan shook his head and said: "No, this route is the necessary path to leave the concession area. We can't go around it."

A-Bing said: "Why don't we just charge forward, attack first? Take them out before they react."

Captain Guan said: "No, we can't confirm if they're enemies yet. Besides, if there are Sanctuary armored troopers ahead, that would be bad."

  "Then what should we do?"

"Everyone stay alert. Let's clarify the situation first."

Captain Guan's group stopped in place, watching the light ahead intently. The others also tightened their grip on their weapons, remaining vigilant.

The light grew brighter and closer. When the light was about thirty meters in front of the rebels, everyone finally saw what it was.

A small civilian truck with its headlights on appeared ahead. Apart from this small truck, there was nothing else ahead. With a "screech," the small truck stopped about twenty meters in front of the rebels.

"That scared me! So it's not Sanctuary troops," A-Bing wiped the sweat from his forehead. In the truck's driver's cab were only two white-robed individuals. Behind the truck was a sealed white rectangular cargo compartment. Judging by their appearance, they didn't look like Sanctuary troops at all.
