Chapter 17: The Last Whisper

"This one is really agile. Forget it, I'll ignore her for now." The Governor felt he couldn't handle Kallen, so he stopped using lasers to attack her and turned toward Rulu by the armored vehicle, intending to eliminate him first.

"Don't be in such a hurry to leave. Come play with me a bit more," Kallen taunted the Governor. With a "bang," cables shot from her chest armor, hitting the Governor and wrapping around his feet. Kallen grabbed the cable and pulled hard, causing the Governor to lose balance, fall with his feet in the air, and crash heavily to the ground.

"You damned..." The Governor was enraged by Kallen. He struggled to throw off the cables, stood up, and charged toward Kallen, attacking her again. Kallen quickly moved away from the Governor, rapidly dodging his attacks. When the Governor saw Kallen escape, he went to attack Rulu, but Kallen rushed back to attack him.

"She's deliberately trying to keep me occupied," the Governor realized her intention, but he couldn't shake her off. He shouted toward the Sanctuary troops, "Attack now! Go attack the rebels!"

Following his command, dozens of Sanctuary soldiers, armed with guns, approached the rebels' armored vehicle.

"Don't let them get close! Open fire!" Captain Guan shouted. The rebels set up their weapons and fired at the Sanctuary soldiers. Unlike the armored troopers who could withstand bullets, under the rebels' suppressive fire, Sanctuary's troops couldn't approach them in the short term.

"Good, keep it up," Rulu said. He continuously controlled the gasoline from the barrels to fly out, transforming into tongues of flame that engulfed the Governor, burning his body. With the Governor trapped by Kallen, unable to approach Rulu or escape, he could only endure the flames' erosion, being burned for a full five to six minutes.

"That should be enough," Rulu waved his hand, and the huge tongue of flame instantly dissipated in the air.

"I... I thought you were going to do something more impressive, but this is... all you've got," the Governor panted. After being burned for five to six minutes, the black armor's shell had turned red and was smoking. While the armor had extremely strong heat insulation, the Governor inside, though uncomfortable, wasn't in immediate life-threatening danger.

"Hehehe, after being roasted for so long, you must be feeling quite uncomfortable. Let me cool you down a bit," Rulu laughed brightly. He waved his hand, and a white vortex about two meters wide, filled with tiny ice particles, spun rapidly toward the Governor, colliding with him.

"What?!" The Governor was shocked as his overheated body felt a bone-chilling cold. The white vortex had an extremely low temperature, and the previously hot, red-glowing black armor immediately frosted over.

The hot armor shell rapidly cooled, causing the black armor to undergo severe deformation. "Crack" "crack" sounds continuously echoed as the black armor developed cracks. The extremely hard alloy armor was damaged under the impact of the freezing vortex.

"This is bad!" The Governor sensed the situation was dire and hurriedly fled. But Kallen rushed up and landed a powerful punch to his head.

The Governor fell, his head hitting the ground hard. Kallen leaped high and stomped heavily on the Governor's head. With a crisp "crack," the Governor's head armor shattered under the continuous impacts, exposing his entire head.

"Die!" Rulu shouted. With a flash of red light, a huge tongue of flame appeared again, engulfing the Governor and consuming his entire body.

From within the fierce flames came the Governor's painful wails. Now, with his head unprotected by armor, he was directly exposed to the fire's erosion. The Governor struggled to get up, trying to escape, but Kallen bound his feet with cables, preventing him from standing up and forcing him to continue enduring the fire's erosion.

"Please, spare me. I've learned my lesson. I'll leave immediately," the Governor fell to the ground, looking toward Rulu with a terrified expression, emitting sorrowful wails.

Rulu remained unmoved. He coldly watched the Governor lying on the ground and continued to control the tongue of flame burning the Governor's body.

Time passed, and in the flames, the Governor's hair turned to charcoal. His ears, nose, and facial skin dripped like melting butter, with white bones appearing on his face. Seeing this appearance, both Sanctuary people and rebels couldn't help but feel a chill down their spines. This was truly hell—a living human hell.

"Ah~ah~ you demon, I curse you! You won't die well! Even as a ghost, I won't let you go..." The Governor, failing to beg for mercy, let out angry roars, continuously cursing Rulu loudly.

"You... people like you should suffer torment in flames before dying. Die! This is what you deserve, this is the best retribution for you. Ahahahaha—"

Rulu gritted his teeth, his face twisted, staring fixedly at the Governor as he shouted. After these words, he let out a demonic laugh that frightened even Captain Guan and Kallen.

"Please... please..." After being burned by the fierce fire for five to six minutes, the Governor's voice gradually weakened. By now, the skin, eyes, mouth, and tongue on his head had been burned black and rotten, with only teeth and white skull bones exposed. A few minutes later, the Governor's white skull drooped, hitting the ground with a "thud," then fell silent.

"Uncle Qiao, Nana's mother, rest in peace..." Seeing the Governor's death, Rulu lowered his face, looking lost and dejected, as if fallen into endless emptiness.

"Rulu, you did well. You're a real man," Captain Guan patted Rulu's back, expressing sincere admiration.

"Yes, Rulu, you shouldn't feel sad or upset. You should be happy," Kallen came to Rulu's side. Seeing Rulu in low spirits, she wanted to comfort him.

"Hmph, I'm not sad at all. Thank me properly. I saved your lives," Rulu raised his face, frowning, pretending to be pompous.

"Alright, alright, I get it. Thank you. I'll remember your great kindness," Kallen said teasingly.
