Chapter 2: God Eye

In the wilderness, what originally was a dirt path became a stone path. A caravan of people was slowly heading along. Inside one of the carriages.

A young man appeared to be resting his eyes.

  This was Anos!

He was currently cultivating. To non-cultivators who couldn't sense the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. It appeared as if he was simply resting.

But anyone with a discerning eye would be able to see the truth.

But the young adults that surrounded him weren't really attracted to 'meditation'.

Anos wasn't really surrounded, despite the carriage being quite crowded. His 'friend' Edrea was the real focus of this group as he was the only one with a breathing method.

Anos had learned that there was martial arts in this world practiced by the wealthy. Edrea was the only son of Lester, the village head. Most people lacked a surname. But Edrea's father was a retired official. Although he didn't have much status. They were much more wealthy then the rest of the village.

Edrea was also the only person who had reached the first level of martial arts. This stage was called 'vitality breath'. It was said to increase lung capacity and the vitality of the blood.

The reason it stood out was because it looked quite different from meditation. It was a unique way of breath work. This level was achieved from repeated hypoxia and hyperventilation.

It was said to help the user tap into the true potential of the brain.

Anos focused on the spiritual energy in the carriage and felt that a very small portion was getting absorbed. But when he spoke to Edrea as they were growing up.

He found out the difference between martial arts and cultivation. There was also a form of martial arts in his last world. But he had never looked into it.

Anos was enjoying his cultivation session when the carriage came to a stop. Anos then felt something wasn't right. As he practiced the God-Eye sutra. He had a little sense of danger that would appear ocassionally.

It was said that Axiom had a unique talent for this cultivation technique. Many speculated that was what kept him alive all those years exploring forbidden areas.

Anos's intuition told him that the danger wasn't too serious. He heard noise from the horses.

Anos wanted to check the surroundings using his spiritual sense. But being able to project your sight outside of your body was something one only unlocked at foundation establishment.

Qi Condensation cultivators could project their spiritual sense inwards. This was how they cultivated and drew in spiritual energy.

So he didn't know the situation outside at all.

He also didn't seemingly have the talent of his ancestor, to be able to see into the future.

But then he heard the yelling of the driver.

There was a knocking sound coming from the door. Soon it was opened and a man with one eye covered popped his head through.

He held a knife and ordered them to exit the carriage. Anos didn't want to reveal himself here, at least not yet.

"You lot should be heading to Haven, right?"

Edrea looked at Anos and hinted with his eyes that he would attack. Edrea knew that he was the only martial artist here. There is seven known levels to martial artist in this world.

Edrea was only at the first level.

But the larger lung capacity and the tempering of the brain, had increased his reaction time. He could easily handle three grown man alone even at his age.

The reason he looked at Anos was to signal them to work together. Out of all the years and people he knew. Anos was the only person who had managed to dodge his attacks.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Not only that. But he did so using some weird technique that was like an illusion.

What he didn't know was this was just an elementary application of spiritual energy. It wasn't even at considered a real spell. It was more like a cantrip.

Anos had no idea this feat of 'illusion' was a secret that touched upon the mystery of the 'god eye'.

Anos had only revealed this ability to Edrea as he had done it on accident one time when they were fighting. This wasn't something Anos had learned at the sect.

Well he did learn a clue regarding it. But it wasn't something he deliberately learned.

It was just an instinct he tapped into in this world.

But right as Edrea was about to take action. The sound of footsteps was heard nearby. They were surrounded by 20 bandits!

One of them held out a basket as everyone had lined up. Nobody was thinking of resisting.

Anos had 147 silvers on him. This was to cover his tuition and the rest was for survival in the city. If he lost this money, he would have to become a beggar; that was even if he managed to reach the city.

It was either that or returning back to the village. But doing so would likely disappoint his parents.

A normal person in this situation might feel despair. But Anos was itching for a fight. But then he calmed himself down. He wasn't invulnerable.

Edrea also felt as if a bucket of ice water was thrown over his head. If you asked him to take on three bandits. He would rush forward without hesitation.

But there appeared to be twenty here; there was also an unknown amount out of sight. If they didn't listen. They might lose their lives...

The leader looked at those lined up.

  "Kill the men."

As the bandits walked closer to the children. They heard laughing.

Anos wiped a tear from his eye with a finger.

The leader looked at Anos in confusion.

  "What is so funny?"

Anos stopped laughing. He made eye contact with the leader.

His eyes then had a murderous tint. He had never killed a person before. But this was kill or be killed.

"These mortals are under my protection!"

"Morta-?" The leader was punched in the throat by Anos. He held his throat and looked at the location where Anos had just been. Anos wasn't fast enough to pull off such an attack. He simply used his instinct to create a mirage.

He laughed on purpose to draw the attention of the bandits.

When the leader collapsed to the ground. Anos picked up their dagger.

  He then slit their throat.

The rest of the bandits realized he was the only threat. They charged at Anos. But the moment they turned their back to Edrea, he also went on attack!

Two of the bandits were pushed to the ground. He wrestled with them for their weapon and won. While this was happening, Anos's hands were shaking. It wasn't just from killing someone.

His adrenaline was soaring throughout his body. His senses felt heightened.

Everything seemed as if it was going in slow motion.

Anos didn't use any of his spells. He felt they weren't needed and from the perspective of others. The mirage wasn't something supernatural to those not affected.

  Only the leader saw it.

To the others. It just looked like Anos walked up to the leader and punched him in the throat; for some reason, they didn't react. It was as if he had no survival instinct.

The leader held his throat as he suffocated, he was gurgling blood, muttering about how impossible this was. His eyes were filled with shock. This was a simple operation. Cut off the path and rob those heading to Haven. It was a simple mission.

How did he end up dying here?

One of the bandits took their dagger and tried to stab Anos. Anos deflected it with his dagger, redirecting it. His face was slightly cut. But he ducked right as another bandit behind him launched an attack. The two bandits 'accidentally' stabbed each other in confusion.

Anos used the same trick of manipulating spiritual energy to create an illusion. This was limited however and couldn't target a lot of people at once.

His reserve of spiritual energy weren't infinite. He was only at the 3rd level of qi condensation. Soon, Anos had two daggers and he was like a phantom. Wherever he walked. It was as if he was ignored by the bandits.

  "Where did he go!?"

  "FUCK!"

There were screams and the young adults watching were confused. One of the bandits was waving their head back and forth, clearly looking for Anos. But he was right in front of them.

Anos walked up to them and disabled them. He did the same to all the bandits. Whether it be blinding them or crippling their legs. It was not a good sight.

But Anos was sweating inwardly. His spiritual energy was exhausted!

But all the bandits were taken care of.

You might wonder why his 'illusion' only affected a few people versus everyone? It was because it didn't target everyone. Immortal methods are quite mysterious.

An article in the God-Eye Sutra taught a method of cultivating the 'god eye'. Anos didn't realize it himself as he didn't pay much attention in class. But he had subconsciously tapped into the power of this 'god eye'.

So when he looked at someone in the eye. He could pull them into an illusion. But this required a lot of spiritual energy and even tampering with external spiritual energy.

The thing was, such a innate ability didn't actually require both sides to have eye contact. As long as Anos saw their eyes, he could trigger this power.

This isn't something the average qi condensation cultivator could pull off! Perhaps the inheritance of Axiom had changed his soul or perhaps it was due to the different laws of this world.

The only downside which Anos transformed into an upside was that he couldn't mass pull everyone into the illusion. He needed to make eye contact with the person first.

This meant to everyone here. Anos didn't do something extraordinary. But he was like a god of war as he leisurely walked on the battlefield and dispatched his enemies.

They all felt quite grateful. But all the adults were killed and they were alone. The guide was also killed in the panic and the horses were let loose or killed.

Anos had no idea where he was. He looked at everyone who was looking at him with expectations.

"This is going to be a pain..."
