We found a decent inn called Moon-Fork, and it wasn't much, but it was nice. It was made of stone like everything else, but they served breakfast and dinner for only an extra two silver coins on top of the room itself, which was only ten.
I had heard a lot about these coins, such as silver and gold ones, but I still didn't know exactly how they worked. Like anything else I didn't know, I asked Luci to expin it. She gave me a quick expnation saying that there are four types, copper, silver, gold, and ptinum. Each one is worth a full hundred of the previous, and their value increased from copper, to silver, to gold, then finally ptinum. Luci had saved up for a while from odd jobs back in Pristel, so when we came here she had five gold coins.
Dinner was a simple stew with bread, and we headed up to our room after that. It was once again entirely stone, but the two beds were some kind of wool-like material and there was a type of nightstand between them with a candle on it.
We set aside our supplies we brought in here earlier and headed to sleep. In the morning, I took the time to sharpen my dagger and katana while Luci made sure her bowstring was tied properly and that she had plenty of arrows.
The Moon-Fork was apparently quite popur with adventurers, so we weren't out of pce in the slightest as we went downstairs to the tavern for breakfast. Like dinner, it was stew and bread.
We made our way back to the Guild, and on our way to the quest board we heard someone yelling.
"... do you mean I'm not good enough!? I may be an F ranker but yer only E! I've been training my whole life for adventuring!!"
"I'm telling you, a dwarf isn't fit for your css. Leave it at that."
The heavily armored human that was talking turned and walked to what I assumed to be his party. The dwarf - who I noticed had shaved his beard - turned to us.
"What!? You also here to tell a dwarf he can't be a Thief!?"
"Hmm? No? I was just going with Luci here to check out the quest board. I don't think your race really matters when it comes to your css."
"Hmph. Say... what rank are the two of ya?"
"F. Why?"
"Listen, like I said, I'm a dwarven Thief. I'm F rank and lookin' fer a party. You mind givin' me a chance? I guarantee I'm not nearly as bad as those dumbasses say, and I'm not gonna take any of the reward."
"What do you think Luci?"
"Well, were probably fine as we are, but it couldn't hurt to have a Thief with us."
"Alright then. We'll see how you do on this quest and go from there."
"Alright! I'll only need this one quest to prove I can keep up with you. Ye won't regret it!"
"I'll hold you to that. Let's pick out a quest now."
While that was completely unexpected, I guess we now have a third member to our party: A dwarven Thief.
The quest board was a mess with papers all over it. Luckily, it was fairly sorted into different sections for all the ranks and each rank was divided into sying and collection quests. Of course, the quests became less common as they hit higher ranks, with only a few A rank quests and nothing higher. The collection quests dissapeared after C.
With our party composition I figured it was best to try a sying quest. After a while, I found a good one. The objective was to sy a small group of Acid Tarantus with a reward of 7 Guild points per person and 15 silver coins.
"Hey, guys. How does this one sound."
"It seems fine to me."
"Isn't that one on the harder side? You're both just starting out so..."
"Don't worry, Mira was able to win a fight against a veteran C rank, so we should be able to handle a few spiders."
"Right, right. I'll trust you one this one."
"Then it's settled!"
I tore the paper off of the board and carefully tucked it away.
"Let's get going then. The description said that they were st spotted about an hour's walk to the east of the city, so we'll start there."
"Got it."
"Kay"
We left the city and began discussing our party formation as we walked. I would be in the front cutting down spiders with my katana, Luci would be in the back picking them off with her bow and magic. Of someone is injured, she could heal, and for attacking she can use the 2nd tier wind spell Mark along with the nature magic I definitely didn't forget she could use. Then in the middle, protecting her while waiting for opportunities to attack was... come to think of it, we never got our Thief's name. I turned to our beardless dwarf.
"Hey, since you might be joining our party, I think it might be good to know your name."
"Right. The name's Rickard Lighthand, but you can call me Rick. You'll see why I have that second name soon enough."
"Good to know, Rick. I think I made the right choice in picking you to watch my back."
"You definitely did, that's for sure."
Well his name is Rick. If I'm not mistaken, I think the dwarves are given there second names upon reaching adulthood, so it makes sense that 'Lighthand' is the name of a Thief who focuses on speed.
We kept our eyes peeled for the rest of the walk, and sure enough, we found the group of giant spiders before it had even been an hour. There were about eight of them.
"Remember the pn, and let's do this!"
On my word, Luci cast Mark as she let her first arrow fly, the spells purpose is to make arrows fly straight, and the first tarantu went down before I jumped at the second. I wasted no time in removing the front legs it stabbed at me with a sweeping stroke of my katana before driving it into the bottom of the beast's head. I quickly removed my bde from the now dead body and decapitated the next one that was trying to run past me. Another one made it through but was shortly sin by Rick's daggers as Luci snipes another. There were three left.
I could hear Luci chanting something behind me as I rushed one of the st spiders. This one tried to swing one of its legs at me and I instantly sliced through it. A second spider jumped at me from the side, so I used Burst to propell me as I dove to the side. I rolled onto my feet as soon as I nded and stepped to the side to avoid acid that was spit at me. I closed the distance to the one that unched the projectile and stabbed through its skull as it tried to bite me. I saw one of them get cleaved straight down the middle from a bst of green light as Luci yelled "Ssh" and I took no time in simirly eliminating the final enemy with my bde.
"Well, that's that. What was that spell you just used Luci?"
"The strongest one I know, Ssh. It's a 3rd tier spell and as you saw, is a rger and more powerful version of Cut."
"Well, that wasn't very difficult. Good experience though. What do you think, Rick?"
The dwarf looked up from examining one of the corpses from the unexpected question.
"Well, I can tell you two are on a whole other level. Luci looks like she's been through a lot of training, and you fight like it's all you've done your whole life."
"...really? I've only been at it for a few days now. This is my first real fight. You're not half bad yourself though. If you still want, I'd say we can register you to be on our party as soon as we get back to the Guild."
"I'll be in yer care then."
With that, we started dealing with the bodies. The venom and fangs could be traded at the Guild for decent money, so after I wiped the blood of my katana and sheathed it I got to work removing fangs with my dagger. Luci and Rick did the same.
We got all we could and burned the rest before heading back. We turned in our quest and materials for a total of 22 silver coins and 50 copper. We registered Rick as a member of Cws of the Orange Fox, and parted ways after agreeing on a meet-up time tomorrow morning. It was mid afternoon by this point, so we went back to our room and i grabbed a change of clothes before heading to a paid, women's only bathhouse. It was only 1 silver coin, so I gdly payed and took my time washing all the sticky blood off of me. I had plenty of time to contempte why I decided to split a giant tarantu in half as I rubbed the blood out of my cloak.
I finally got back to the Moon-Fork before dark, and I spent the rest of the time until dinner figuring out how to cast the first tier fire spell Fme, because if I'm being honest, we spent more time trying to burn the bodies than we did traveling and fighting.
Adventuring is definitely very fun. There are absolutely no inconveniences at all.
