Adventurers

  "It's... gray."

  "Yeah..."

As we rolled through the gates of the city, the first word that came to mind was that very color.

Gray walls. Gray streets. Gray buildings. Gray... everything! I should've expected a city build into the side of the mountain to be primarily stone, but they could've at least added some other color to it...

Despite everything here being made of stone, it was still a magnificent sight to behold. This city was many times rger than the capitol of Pristel. The sprawling mass of grey stretched a good way way up its mountain. While I couldn't see the rest, Luci told me it completely surrounded the mountain and even had a few buildings dug into the center, like the residential quarters of the Council as well as where they host their meetings. Several mines also made their home in the mountain.

A little way into the city there was a sort of stable building, and most of the carriages belonged to this pce, so this was the final stop for most of the group, and Luci and I were included. The only carriages that would keep moving are the Council's; namely the one they rode in and the one they stored their supplies in. The two of us packed light, so we didn't have much to unload before the carriage took off.

  "So, Luci, what now?"

"Obviously, we're going to the Guild to register."

"Well, yeah... but do you know where that is?"

"Of course! This isn't my first time in the city after all. It's one of the biggest buildings here, not to mention that the Guild banners hanging from it make it stand out even more. It's just down this street anyway."

"Ah. Well, what are we waiting for then? Show me to it."

  "Gdly."

After that exchange, we started walking, and only a short walk ter we stood in front of the stone building and it's gold banners. I could see a group of humans leaving the building. One looked like a mage with a robe and a staff. Another had heavy armor with a rge shield and a battleaxe on his back. The third had leather armor and two shortswords on his back with another on each hip. The perfect picture of adventurers.

After they passed we entered the Guild. It was set up simir to a tavern, with stone tables full of all sorts of races eating and drinking together and having an all around good time. On the wall to the side, there was a rge bulletin board - actually something made of wood - with a ton of papers stuck onto it. There were a couple groups standing on front of the board and sorting through the papers.

The back of the room had a stone counter with a few dwarven women standing behind talking to some who were in front. The attendant on the right was our destination.

"Greetings. Your's are some new faces here, are you here to register?"

"Yes. We're trying to register and form a party."

"Very well then. Let's start with you. What is your name, age, race, and css?"

"My name is Lucindell Aerostil Regali-Pristel. I am 19 years old and an elf. My css will be Archer."

"Ah! My humble apologies for not recognizing you sooner Lady Lucindell." The woman pced a small box with a rounded top on the counter. "Please pce your hand on this and we'll complete your registration."

Luci did as she was asked, and after she had pced her hand on the box the attendant did something and I heard a click. Moments ter a small card came out of the back.

"Here is your identification card, simply pce your thumb on the indent in the corner and the text will become avaible to you." She turned to me next. "Same thing. What is your name, age, race, and css?"

"Um, my name is Mira, I don't know my age... and I'm human. I don't really know what the csses are yet..."

"Oh dear... the csses are simple to tell you, but you don't know your own age?"

"Well- I- Um, I woke up about a week ago and I don't remember anything from before then. Sorry."

"That's fine. Age isn't entirely necessary to register. For the roles, I'll assume you want a frontliner css that uses a sword?"

  "Yes."

"That's good then. To start, there's the Tank: A heavily armored css that specializes in defending but can dish out rge amounts of damage as well. Next there's the Thief: A css that focus on speed and stealth, hiding away and quickly slipping around an enemy to grant them a quick death. They usually wield daggers or shortswords. Finally there's the Adventurer role: A css that specializes in melee combat and can be paired with any weapon, most commonly a sword. Lightly armored and light on their feet, the masters of this role are known to quickly eliminate their enemies with a graceful dance of death. Based on your getup, Miss Mira, I would reccomended the st one."

"I guess I'll take the adventurer role then."

"If you would pce your hand here then."

Like she did with Luci, she had me set my hand on the box, and after the click my card came out and the attendant handed it to me.

"Like I told Lady Lucindell here, pcing your thumb over the indent on the corner will allow you to see the text."

I tested it, and sure enough, while my thumb was over the card blue letters appeared that read 'Name: Mira -- Age: ??? -- Race: Human -- Css: Adventurer -- Rank: F' As soon as I took my thumb off the card was once again bnk.

"Now, you wanted to form a party as well, right?"

"Yes, just give us one second. Mira?" Luci turned towards me. "I completely forgot: We need a name. Do you have anything?"

"Hmm..." A name, huh? Going by what I keep hearing, we'll probably be pretty famous in the future, so it has to sound like something legendary. Hmm...

"Ah! I think I might have an idea."

  "What it it?"

"You remember what I told you about that dream I have you first used Healing on me?"

  "Yes?"

"Well, I've been thinking: Maybe that girl from that dream means something. I also think we have to do something that sounds cool if we're ever gonna make it big. So, here's my idea: Cws of the Orange Fox."

"Honestly, it's not that bad of a name. We're ready now, ma'am."

"First, your party needs a name. I overheard you come up with it just now, but are you sure you want to go with it? You cannot change it ter."

Luci looked at me, and I nodded.

"We're sure. We'll be the Cws of the Orange Fox."

"Good choice. The cost to form a party is 25 silver coins. I'll go ahead and register you as a party of two as soon as I have it. The party number can always change, and you can have a minimum of two people and a maximum of six. If you can pay now, do so and let me see your cards."

Luci payed her the money. Then she took our cards and removed the box from before and pced it under the counter before she brought out a different one to repce it. It looked the same as the first but had a ft top with several slits in it. She pced our cards in two of those, and after pressing what I assumed to be buttons of some kind that I couldn't see, there was a click again and she returned our cards. The text was the same, but now it also showed 'Party: Cws of the Orange Fox' -- Party Rank: F.

"Congratutions. You are now members of the party Cws of the Orange Fox. Before I let you go, here are the basics of the Guild. First, to accept a quest, remove its paper from the quest board over there. Once you complete the quest, hand in the paper with proof of completion to one of my colleagues. To rank up, simply complete quests. Each quest is worth its own number of guild points, and each rank needs a certain number of points to obtain. E rank needs 25 points, D rank needs 50, C rank needs 100, B needs 250, A needs 500, S needs 1,000, and SS needs 5,000 points and least one urgent quest to be completed."

She paused for a moment to let that information sink in before continuing.

"Each rank resets the number of points you have, so gaining 25 points and reaching E rank will put you back to 0 points. Urgent quests are quests given by the Guild, and are usually emergencies that need strong adventurers to help resolve. They have no rank limiting them, but many are as dangerous as an A rank quest at the least do be careful. Each urgent quest grants 250 points at the minimum, but may give more based on the situation. A quest that gives enough points to rank up more than once in one go will do that, such as a 250 point quest at F rank which will see the successful adventurers to C rank. Note that any spare points from this will be reset after rank-up, and it only works if all points are gained from one quest. You may only recieve quests within one rank above or below that of your party's, and at A rank or higher you can only accepts equal to or one rank below. Good luck on your adventuring, Cws of the Orange Fox."

  "Thank you, ma'am."

  "Thanks."

After that, the two of us left the Guild to find an inn to stay an for the night. We had finally become adventurers, and we'll take on our first quest tomorrow. The Cws of the Orange Fox. I'm certain that this name is one that will be remembered for many years to come.
