I walked side by side with Igor and Mia, suitcase in hand.
I still hadn't opened it yet, I was curious on what was Inside but decided to wait just a bit. It couldn't hurt right.
The more we went deeper into the tunnel the more the horrible stench increased.
My body was slowly becoming numb. It felt weird, my legs touch the ground but I couldn't feel it, it was like i was floating. My eye slowly losed focus as my vision started growing dark.
'Shit. Pull it together Colt. You can pass out just because of this poisonous smell'
I saw from a distance some dwarves laughing at my pathetic state. I could hear their bellowing laughs echo throughout the tunnel.
'Damn, fuck you guys. You're the strange ones for being able to even stand this shit. The airs so bad it's fucking poisonous!'
"Colt, not feeling well" Said Igor
I swear I heard him laugh at me before he spoke.
'This son of a bitch, he has it good, with that damn gas mask of his. You know what, he probably doesn't even need it, he's just wearing it to taunt me.'
"Here take it" Igor said as he took off his gas mask.
I would of stood there stunned if it wasn't for the fact that I didn't want to spend one more second smelling this horrible scent.
I snatched it out of his out of his hands and roughly put on the gas mask.
It felt great to breath again normally without almost gaging because of the smell.
I breath in hungrily as if I was just choked. The gas mask covered my enitre face.
I kinda liked the gas mask, not just because it let me breath air that didn't smell like rotting corpses, but because i also liked its design.
It was black with 2 big cartridge that I assume were the part that filtered the air using magic and then a cartoon skull design for the mouth.
A small smile crept up my face.
'I probably look pretty badass right now.'
*
Message: You look anything but badass. Wipe that grin off your face. Your not here to play.
*
'Ouch, no need to be so mean. Damn!'
"Mia, I want you and Colt to go help the miners. Just do whatever their doing. Oh and bring back anything you think is valuable." Said Igor.
"Alright, you can count on me!" She smiled brightly, but her gaging didn't make it convincing at all.
That's just how bad it smelled.
'It's like something is rotting in here.' I thought.
Slowly as we walked the tunnel changed slighty. The tunnel previously looked to be covered in smoke and dirt, it was dirty in general. But the tunnel was smooth, no bumps to Indicate that we were In a cave.
The tunnel changed to a rocky terrain, the walls jagged and rough, spikes growing from the ceiling threatening to fall on you.
There was even more dwarves and demi humans here, all working tirelessly.
The tunnel ended and what greeted us was a big opening where all the workers seem to have settled, small tents set up and food stands serving food handing bowls to workers.
"You should open your suitcase" Said Igor.
I guess Igor didn't think I was fast enough because after that he said.
"Now."
My body jolted as it forced itself to speed up.
Opening the suitcase I saw a small pickaxe.
'Am I really supposed to used this. It's for children, its soo small!'
I grabbed the pickaxe and it suddenly grew In size, before fitting snugly in my hands.
"OK, now get working. Scram!"
I left with Mia as we walked toward the settlement created by the workers.
Looking behind me I saw as Igor just stood there staring at us, as if waiting for us to leave his sight.
Because I wasn't looking ahead, I accidentally bump into someone.
I fall to the ground as I bump into them, the other person was unaffected by this, not even moving a inch.
"You Ok Colt?" Asked Mia.
"I'm fine, I just wasn't looking where i was going"
The person I bump into was a dwarf with grayish hair and eyes that seem a mixed of white and sliver.
"Hmm?" The dwarf turned its head, finally acknowledging my existence.
Something about him felt off, like he didn't belong here as a miner. But that's probably because of his strange eyes.
"Whatcha you doing here miss, this no place for a frail woman like you."
Mia faced was unfazed by this sudden insult hurled by the dwarf.
She simply smiled as she snapped "How about you mind your own damn business and leave me alone."
'Oohh shit. I did not expect that'
My eyes go wide as I heard her say this, she's always been nice ever since I met her. Even if it was fake, I never expected her to do something like this.
Hahahahahaha
The dwarf, instead of being mad was bursting out laughing.
Before he could say anything else, Mia grabbed me by my collar and pulled me away.
We walked for a bit as she somewhat dragged me by the collar until we passed through the settlement.
Letting go of my collar she coughs a bit before saying
"Sorry bout that, it's just ..... sometimes you gotta be mean for people to take you seriously"
I wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying. I was more focused on her dragging me by the collar.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
'How is she so strong! I was trying to stop her but it was useless. Was she really just acting when she couldn't lift that suitcase earlier?'
Clapping her hands she said "Alright, I've already been here before so follow me, I'll take us to where we need to go."
She walked forward as she hummed a song.
There were 10 tunnels that were In front of us. Mia took the tunnel that was all the way to the right, the last one.
We entered the tunnel. Mia's nosed crunched slightly.
It seems that what ever the smell is, it's coming from this tunnel.
Thinking about how disgusting that thing must be to smell this bad, I hesitantly ask her
"Should we chose a different tunnel? It's not like anything bad will happend if we do right?"
"No, it's fine. This is the best path for us to take, it's the fastest way to reach our destination"
She walked forward, leaving me no choice but to follow.
All over the wall was lights that illuminated the tunnel, sometimes the tunnel would have different paths for us to walk if we chose so.
But Mia ignored them and kept going straight, passing workers mining ores.
After what seem like 20 minutes of walking I grew curious about where we needed to go.
"Where exactly are we going. If we only wanted metal and ores we didn't have to walk this far."
"I want to reach a ravine that formed here underground. There's actually better ores there then the previous places we passed. It be better for us because we could stash some for ourself"
She looked over at me and grinned
"Doesn't it sound fun?" She asked.
"...I guess" I responded unsure of myself.
We continued walking in slience
######
We made it to the end of the tunnel. The tunnel led to a ledge over looking the ravine.
One small step and you would be dead, except me of course.
I leaned over the edge staring at the darkness below trying to see the bottom.
"Don't fall!" she said
'Oh, yeah she doesn't know I can't die'
I stepped away from the edge and looked at the ravine from a safer distance.
There were lights lit up in random place all over the wall of the ravine.
'It's like people were climbing the wall of the ravine. She isn't planing on us doing the same right'
I started to sweat at the thought of climbing the ravine wall with nothing to stop my fall. There appeared to be no end to how deep the ravine was.
A gust of air hit the gas mask on my face, a whistling sound entering my ears as the wind passed me.
I turned around to look at Mia and ask her how we were going to mine if we had no equipment to scale the walls of the ravine.
I was slightly confused by the rope and metal rod in her hand. Hoping it wasn't what I thought it was for, I asked
"Why are you holding that?"
"This? It's our equipment! Tie the rope to the metal rod, then tie the other end of the rope to your stomach then," she was tieing the rope to the rod and the other end of the rope to her stomach as she said this.
"Boom, your ready to climb." She said excitedly.
'OH HELL NO'
She crazy. There's no other way to put it. She has more than a few screws lose In that head of hers.
"Here" she handed me a rod and rope.
She probably didn't see my expression because of the mask I was wearing, but my eyes were wide, mouth hanging. The color in my face was draining.
I watched as she jumped off the edge and the threw the rod at the wall of the ravine. The rod penetrated the wall and stuck like a throne.
Her feet landed on the wall as she took out a pickaxe out of no where. It seem to materialize in her hand.
'She expects me to do THAT!'
How was I even going to make sure that rod stuck?
Looking at her more closely I noticed wind circulating around her body.
'OH I see, It's all fine because you can use magic incase you fall' my eyes brows twiched as the frustration inside grew.
'But what about me, I can't use wind magic. The hell am I supposed to do to make sure I don't fall? Pray to God or something? I'm just going to fall like a rag doll.'
"Whats the hold up? You coming or not?!" Mia shouted.
'No. Like hell I'm jumping. I'm not exactly fond of heights or climbing so I'm out.'
I turn around and start to leave.
"Wait don't leave!" She said
Ignoring her pleas and started making my way back.
#####
I found it strange how I saw no one as I was walking back towards the entrance.
All the miners that were working were all gone, all their stuff scattered all over the floor as if they were in a rush. There was even some minecarts full of shiny ores that were left behind.
The wind was stagnant. It was eerily quiet.
Slowly the hairs on my back stood. I had a bad feeling that something was wrong.
'Shit, I forgot to bring my sword with me. I didn't think I would have to use it outside of the coliseum'
I gripped the pickaxe in my right hand tightly, until my knuckles whitened.
If I didn't have my mask on, I would of smelled the scent of blood.
Reaching the entrance of the tunnel, the entrance was blocked by a giant rock, but I was confused.
I saw blood all over the floor but no body's. The blood lead to a giant spider web that had many things on the spider web wrapped in cobwebs.
Sweat began to trickled down my back, making a chill go down my spine.
I walked closer to the giant spider web, every step I took felt like lead. I wanted to run.
I was infront of the spider web, my breathing eratic at this point. There's nothing here to attack me but I couldn't calm down. It felt like I was already in a trap, like a mouse with no hope of escaping its cage.
Looking at the spider web I saw bits of blood on the spider web, the blood seem to be surrounding the cobweb-like cocoons.
I lifted my pickaxe and swung it at the cocoon infront of me. The pickaxe buried itself into the cocoon and became stuck.
I put my foot on the cocoon to get more leverage and pulled as hard as I could.
I fell back and land on my back. As I finally ripped out the pickaxe, I heard many things hit the ground.
Siting back up, my blood froze.
What spilled out of the cocoon was the dismember body parts of the workers, blood tainting the floor as the head of a dwarf rolled off to the side.
I felt sick. Slowly the memories of the previous people I murderer meshed with the dismembered corpse infront of me.
My stomach twisted in knots, my body shoke uncontrollably as I remember the faces of the people that begged me for mercy. The look of the dwarfs face was the same, nothing but despair and pain was on its face, despite him already being dead.
'I need to leave!' I took a shaky step back, the strength in my legs betraying me.
Turning around to escape, I meet a big spider. It's fur was dark red and black. The fur surrounding its fangs was violet.
At thus point I couldn't think straight, I wanted to run. The guilt was killing me.
I get ready to fight the spider, my shaking legs becoming firm. The grip on my pickaxe tightening as I lifted it infront of me.
Before the spider could attack me, i charged.
'Mental Outburst, Numb Body'
I swung the pickaxe wildly at the spider, doing everything I can to kill it.
The spider swiftly dodge my strikes, as if it was nothing but child's play.
Right as I was about to strike again, one of its legs strikes me on my chest, sending me flying back and hitting the rock blocking the entrance. My mask went flying.
It felt like my ribs shattered, I probably did break some ribs, unfortunately it seemed the that the spider was not done with me yet.
My mind was a mess, I wanted to fight back but my body couldn't muster any strength to get up.
The spider places one of its legs on my chest, which shot pain all over my body.
The spider lowered its head and began to dismember me.
I screamed as it chewed and bite into my right shoulder.
Bit by bit, I felt as the spider picked apart the muscle on my shoulder before fully biting off my right arm.
'I WILL kill you'
My screams of pain were replaced by deranged screams as I turn on my Self-immolation skill.
The arm inside the spider began to burn it from the inside out.
I thought I could of killed the spider the same way I did with the orge.
I watched in horror as the spider spit out my arm, the skin from my arm was gone.
I charged without thinking, I jumped on top of the spider before it could do anything.
I bite into the spider savagely, using my left arm to hold onto the spider.
Unfortunately my teeth couldn't hurt it, it's exoskeleton was too tough.
The spider started going crazy, bashing into the wall, trying to throw me off.
I held on with all my strength, it was all I could do.
I wasn't strong enough to kill it, and it's probably just going to take me apart piece by piece.
'What can I even do? Shit!'
I racked my brain for anything I could do to kill it while the spider went on a rampage crashing Into the walls over and over again.
Nothing.
My mind was blanking.
The only hope I had was to wait for Mia to hopefully get here on time, but considering that I didn't hear any commotion when the workers died, she probably won't hear me either.
'No. I can't give up, no no NO!'
My hand slipped and I fell off the spider, landing right beside my dismembered arm.
My eyes lit up.
I grabbed my right arm and turned on self immolation, holding my right arm as a sword.
The spider hesitated as it saw me holding my right arm, which burned bright in this tunnel.
'If I can't beat it, I just have to make it think it's not worth fighting me. Then i will take that chance to escape!'
I screamed like a mad man as I charged at the spider, swinging my right arm like a flimsy sword.
The spider backed away as I got closer.
Unfortunately the spider wasn't scared, although it back away, it got ready to attack, raising its legs.
Without thinking I threw the burning arm at the spider.
The spider jumped back, I used this opportunity to run.
I ran as fast as I could.
*
Message: Lucky Shot
You managed to hit the spider in the eye. Use this time to run!
*
I didn't need the message to tell me, I was already running as fast as I could, up ahead I saw a tunnel off to the side.
If I go to the tunnel, I could maybe shake off the spider.
I ran into the tunnel.
I was greeted by a maze of tunnels, I just ran into a random tunnel and kept running.
I went from tunnel to tunnel, I didn't care where I was going, all that matter was that I could shake off the spider.
My body slowly lost strength, it became harder to breathe.
I stopped running for a bit to catch my breath.
That's when I realized that I left a trail of blood from my right arm. Well more like lack of right arm.
I turned on the self immolation skill to burn the wound. I could smell cook meat as I burn the wound.
I could hear something in the distance.
'Shit'
I got back up and ran.
