Remnants of the Fire 6

Standing in his office at Kai Technologies Ltd, Gun was staring at the blueprints of a new car technology, the yout for a casino, and the blueprint of a heavyweight vehicle for the military. He let out a heavy breath as his expression twisted as he rubbed his stomach. “I think I need to go back to the hospital.”

Troy gnced over at him but remained silent.

“Do you have any idea which one we should start with? I’ve looked over everything and from what I know—let’s hear your thoughts.” He looked at Troy for a response and saw him stare aimlessly at the desk.

Frowning, he asked, “Did you hear me?”

Troy nodded. “Since this is your first big project, I will leave it to you to decide. I’ve considered all options and all three will benefit us. It’ll boost your reputation, too.”

“I don’t want something to boost my reputation. I just want to get it over with. If you’re saying tha—” Gun stopped speaking but let out a squeal like compining sound as he bent over clutching his abdomen. Tears formed in his eyes as he fought the urge to scream—letting out a groan. He rested his head on the desk and turned to face Troy.

Forcing a smile, he said, “How about we look into the casino business? Spping Kai Technologies’ name on it will bring in millions, if not billions. The new car developments and the military vehicle seem a bit too easy.”

Troy nodded his head. “Sure, if that is what you suggest.”

Nodding his head as he leaned back against the chair, he sighed. There was a big picture of King on the wall and staring at it every day wasn’t easy. Shaking his head as he stood up, “Let’s do the easiest one out of them all, then move on to the next. I’m too sick to be here every day to oversee the projects.”

Troy chuckled. Holding his hand out, he asked, “Should we leave now? You’re turning blue.”

He held out his hand to Gun.

Staring at his hand, Gun reached for it, then the pain came again, making his body tremble. Looking at his hands that were shaking, he sighed. “I don’t know what’s going on with me. I should have healed after leaving the hospital, but it’s like I’m getting worse.”

Standing up, he lifted his shirt saying, “I went back asking them why I have a stitching here, well it’s a scar now and they don’t even know about this.” Letting his shirt fall, he added, “Maybe my body just misses it’s other half now it’s taking forever to heal.”

Staring at the window looking at the sky, “I had this silly thought the other night. Maybe if he was still alive, I’d heal faster if our bodies were connected.”

Feeling the guilt consume him, Troy could barely stand. Taking off his gsses, he sat down and looked at Gun, who looked sick. Thinking about what he did and how Gun was barely surviving these days.

“There’s something I need to tell you,” he said in almost a mumble.

Turning to him, he saw that Troy seemed troubled. Walking over to him, he sat down beside him, hugging a pillow. Peeking up at him, he asked, “Trouble in paradise?”

Troy chuckled, “You know, now that you’re the boss, knowing everything doesn’t mean that you should state your opinions.”

Gun ughed, “So what do you want to tell me?”

  “I know why you’re sick.”

Gun tilted his head to the side, joking, “I didn’t know you are a doctor.”

  “I’m being serious here.”

“Okay, okay Dr Troy, give me your diagnostics.”

“There’s a company that helps gay couples conceive couples without having the help of women as surrogates.” Looking at Gun, he saw that there wasn’t much of a change to his expression besides him squeezing the pillow tighter.

“Lovely was pregnant with my child but he lost the baby and his parents found out now it’s like they have him under house arrest.”

Gun nodded slowly, “So technology has advanced so much. It would have been nice to know about this before he died.”

“We tried again not too long ago, but only after he went for the second surgery.”

  “Surgery?”

“Mn, an artificial womb with all the nutrients in it to change the body so that it can carry the foetus and keep it alive, but because his body rejected the womb impnt.”

Raising a brow, he asked, “What does this have to do with me? You said you know why I’m sick.”

Seeing that Gun was now paying attention, he said, “I swear to you, Gun, I didn’t know about any of this until after King’s death. I was with Lovely when I got the phone call and just before then he told me about the pregnancy. He added that he went ahead and arranged for you to get the impnt while you were unconscious because of the shooting.”

Holding back his burp, he stared at Troy saying, “Why don’t you say this in simple words? You know, in words, that will help me understand what you are trying to say.”

“You’re sick because your body is rejecting the impnt.”

  “I don’t get it.”

“You have a womb inside you because my boyfriend—”

“Do you honestly think this is the time to be joking and making up stories? Just because I said it would be nice to know this before he died doesn’t mean that I’d want to do shit like this.”

“Gun, I didn’t know about this, I swear.”

“And so what was his reason? King isn’t alive anymore, so what is the point?”

Troy remained silent. He didn’t know what to say in this situation.

“I’ve been sick for so long and for what? For nothing! Did he think I’d fuck someone else?”

“He didn’t know King was going to die. None of us knew.”

Standing up, he looked at Troy saying, “Come, let’s go. I don’t believe this shit. Take me to the hospital and who the hell authorised such a surgery?”

Troy looked at him. “Do you really not believe me?”

Staring down at him, “Maybe it’s why I have the other scar. I don’t know, let’s just go now. I already have an appointment. Let’s see if what you are saying is the truth. Looking down at him, Gun added, “It’ll be really troubling if this is true.”

Troy nodded his head. He stood up and as Gun turned his back on him, he said, “King left his semen at a sperm bank in case he died without children. He has his children, but not with the one he loves. Gun, I really didn’t know Lovely was going to do something like this, but ther–”

“Enough Troy. I know he’s rich and part of the cns. But just because he has the power doesn’t mean it’s right and nor will I let anything happen. I can’t live just to die because of something like this.”
