Chapter 12

As I walked up the stairs, I realized I didn’t know what shower to use. Sighing, I turned and went to the kitchen. “Hey, Victoria. Your mom wants us to both take a shower.” The look she shot me had me choking and sputtering. “Not together! Can I use your shower while you finish with the dishes?”

She pouted but nodded. As I turned to leave, I heard her giggle a bit right before a pair of freezing cold and wet hands went up my shirt. Spttering against my skin. The muscles across my entire back spasmed in an effort to flee from the sudden cold.

I practically flew out of the kitchen as her giggles turned into ughter. Racing upstairs as I made my way for her bathroom. Opening the door hesitantly, I feared what I would find, given whose bathroom it was. It defied expectations.

It was normal. A nice stone tile floor with a marble-like counter and sink. A rap of the knuckles told me it wasn’t really stone though. Moving further into the room, I looked at the shower. Enclosed in gss, the shower took up at least a third of the room.

Closing the door, I quickly undressed and entered the shower. The shower was nicer than any of the ones I had ever used. While it only had one shower head, the pressure and heat were enough to nearly have me melting against the wall.

A soft tapping noise on the door was all that warned him before someone opened it. “I put a pair of sweats and a stretchy shirt on the counter,” Victoria called.

Thinking she was done, I turned off the water and turned to the sliding door. Victoria stood there just inside the door, looking at me with a grin on her face. My face went red as I reached down to cover myself. “What are you still doing in here? Do you want your mother to kill me?”

“She won’t kill you.” She said as she turned to leave. Though she muttered the next part, I was able to make it out. “In fact, she probably expects that we won't be able to keep apart for long.”

I didn’t know what she was alluding to, but it sounded as if I had, somehow, become entangled in something. Hopefully, it wasn’t something I would come to regret ter. Quickly drying and dressing, I left the bathroom and went outside. Standing under the suns as they made their inevitable fall over the horizon.

Wait, suns? Looking a second time, I saw that there were indeed two suns. One was as yellow as Earth's sun, while the other was a dull red. Seeing that was like being hit by a truck. There was no way I could deny that I was on another pnet.

Taking a look around, I noticed that the suns were not the only difference. The trunks were a dull green-blue color while the leaves varied. Ranging from the typical green to a brilliant gold. From yellow to purple. Not that they were the only colorful things around.

The floor was covered in even more color in the pces where the pnts could survive. Other areas were covered in rocks or moss, preventing the pnts from even find purchase to grow. Sitting on a moss-covered part of the ground a few paces from the porch, Victoria’s mother looked to be meditating.

Either I could go up and interrupt whatever she was doing or sit and wait for her to finish. Yeah, I was going to sit and wait for her to finish. It was as I watched the few clouds above us crawl across the sky that I noticed them.

Tiny dots seemed to fly around, chasing each other as they wove and dove around high above. High enough that they disappeared behind the clouds a number of times. Suddenly, while they were still behind a cloud, they dove through it. Coming close enough that I could make out some of their features.

At the end of a long neck looked to be a rather rge head. Following the ridges along its back led my eyes the majority of the way down its body and tail. A tail that ended at a thin point. Covering everything, the scales glittered in a multitude of colors. No single color being more prominent than the rest.

Wings snapping as the creature tried to correct its course, only to be intercepted by a smaller, but simir, creature as it too popped through the cloud. “Let's get going. We don't want to be here when he spots this house.” Came Victoria’s mother’s voice.

  “Why, mother? What is it?”

“Bad timing is what it is.” She growled. “It is too early for either of you to meet a dragon of the isnd.”

“What do you mean by that? Are they any different…”

“Victoria.” Her mom interrupted her, eyes boring into her daughter. I just stayed quiet, not really knowing what was going on and not really wanting to get involved.

Victoria sighed next to me. Her mother must have taken it as an agreement to drop the question. Turning, she started to walk. Clearly expecting us to follow her. Before I could take a step off the porch, Victoria grabbed my hand. Holding it in hers as we followed her mother.
