Chapter 11

The sun shining directly on my face woke me from my dreamless sleep. As I attempted to sit up, I found that I had a bnket that seemed to be clinging to me. A bnket that seemed to be snuggling against me?

Craning my head to look down, I found that Victoria was there. Her arms pulling herself to me and head buried into my chest. If that dream had been real, what did that mean about all the other events that happened before it?

My hands, which had been around her waist without me even realizing, reached up and started to rub across her back softly. All the while, my mind tried to figure out just what I needed to do next. How I could get stronger. The only things I could come up with was to train harder and find a weapon that wasn’t made of wood.

The rubbing of her back must have woken her because Victoria let out a groan before shifting. Her body moving up mine as her nose moved to my neck. Reminded of my question from the night before, I asked her “Is there a reason you keep going for my neck?”

“Because you smell so good.” The tips of Victoria’s ears turned red as she sighed in contentment. “Plus, it shows me that you trust me.” At the tilt of my head at her answer, she continued. “The neck is one of the most vulnerable pces on most creatures. It is a pce most will never let anyone near unless they completely trust that person to not take advantage of that vulnerability.”

“And you? Do you trust me?”

“More than you know. Now let me sleep a bit longer.” Her breathing instantly deepening as I adjusted to my new and persistent bnket. Not that I was compining. Instead, I moved onto trying to accept my circumstances. It was the only way I would be able to grow strong enough to go out and find a way back after all.

Thinking about home reminded me of the sword. About how it had glowed. Something I had never seen it do. Did that have something to do with my parents, the world we were in, what it was stabbed into, or the sword itself.

My mind went over each until a soft coughing sound caught my attention. Tilting my head up, I noticed Victoria’s mother standing over me. “Morning.” I said sheepishly.

  “Did you sleep well?”

I didn’t know how to answer her without saying something that might anger her. So I simply nodded. That motion must have been enough to wake Victoria up as she lifted her head up. Looking up at my face before following my eyes.

Seeing her mother, her body stiffened as her eyes went wide. “Good morning.” She stammered as her hands balled my shirt up. At the rate things were going, my shirt would have odd stretched out sections.

“It’s already afternoon.” Her mom said as she rolled her eyes. For some reason she seemed a bit more animated than before. “I used to think it was cute that you would sleep whenever you got the chance. In fact, it made raising you easier as you couldn’t get into any trouble then. But its gotten a bit old. Get up and take care of the dishes then take a shower.”

Victoria took another deep breath in, tickling my throat as she did so. With a final, resigned sigh, she sat up. Her legs straddling on either side of my chest. I was just happy she wasn’t any lower than that or it would have been a bit awkward for the both of us. Hands on my chest, she slid one leg, then the other, off the couch to stand on the ground.

I sat up, my eyes following her back until she left the room. Looking to her mother, I asked, “Soooo… where can I get some clothes.”

“I can take you both into town ter today. You need a weapon anyway.”

“Why can’t I use the sword my parents were so kind to leave behind?”

Her eyes turned a bit cold as she said, “That sword is magical, and you are not ready to wield it. Even if you were I would not let you take it out of this house. We will leave after your showers.” With that, she turned and left the house, the door shutting with a soft thud behind her.

Debating whether or not to go help Victoria, I decided to take a shower. Hoping to get it done before she finished the dishes so that we could leave sooner rather than ter.
