Chapter 84 – Night of Assassinations Pt 1

The night had finally arrived. It was not easy getting here without Lucia, but Lord Behemoth was kind enough to Terraport me here when I asked for directions. I was currently in a Betrunian town bordering the Republic of Levedinia, and... judging from the information I was given, he seems to be conspiring against the Kingdom, but why visit a Republic of all pces? It was an interesting thought but more so were the little blue wisps of fme scattered across the area.

My [Sensor] skill was already active and though I couldn't specify to the degree I wanted to, I was able to add a condition to it with my [Recssing] skill: Detect only those who are level 50 and above, and sure enough, it worked like a charm! No serious political enemy would hire weaklings as assassins... But it left me with a potential blind spot, as I couldn't exactly vouch for the strength of our dear conspiring noble's bodyguards. Anyway, if I approach anything that looks like a carriage, that should be him.

A cold wind whistled past me, and I took that as the signal to initiate the attack. Hopping from rooftop to rooftop, I cornered the first assassin and ended his life instantly with a [Killing Strike], which like [Great Shield], I'd also tweaked to rig the activation chances in my favor. One down, twenty more to go!

My next target was a Sniper camping on the rooftop of a nearby house, waiting for the noble to pass by. He spotted my approach from afar with his excellent sight, but I wouldn't let him alert his friends, so I quickly recssed into a Sniper and shot him down with deadly accuracy. Bet you weren't expecting that, huh? I relished the sweet taste of victory before recssing once again to Assassin and reactivating [Sensor].

Hmm, they seem to be making their move... I'll need to work faster, I thought to myself as I readied the two curved swords in my hands and took off, looking for the next victim, who also seemed to be heading in the same direction as everybody else. Oh, nice! A fellow Assassin! I thought to myself before finishing him off with my [Killing Strike].

I was just about to move on to the next when a particur detail caught my eye. A three-headed dog? The symbol was woven into the left chest area of the robe, immediately bringing to mind that conversation I had with Phildina, "They trained me in the art of killing, and I worked as an assassin for them. In all those years, I killed more people than I can even remember, Daphne. I grew numb to it, carrying out my services emotionlessly."

Now, I have all the more reason to kill these guys, I thought to myself as I clenched my fists tightly, the anger within me burning like never before. However, I couldn't let myself get swept up by emotions. They will surely pay for what they did to Phildina, but now's not the time. I need to gain more power... Something was telling me that monsters beyond imagination resided there, so I couldn't waltz right into their headquarters and expect to come back in one piece. I'll first master this ability before doing anything too crazy, I thought to myself as I went on to the next victim.
