Historian’s Diary 1 – The Aftermath

As two of the oldest states in the world, Camelia and the Bazaar empire have a long shared history, and among the many skirmishes, battles, and wars fought over the years, none have been as devastating as the Fourth Great War of Expansion. Unlike previous wars, the Kingdom was the sole target of the Bazaar Empire's fury, and this clearly showed in how the map was redefined:

The impact of this change that occurred in so short a time is something that still baffles me to this day. On the way to Luxoria, they burned down vilges and towns, destroyed entire cities with magic, and reduced the popution of the Kingdom by at least a fifth. They were absolutely ruthless. The estimates of the people who lost their lives could be anywhere from 500,000 - 2 million, a number that the other three wars couldn't reach combined!

Many arguments spawned as to the reason behind the Empire's brutality, but I felt and still feel that those arguments are useless. This is not because I believe the Empire is the embodiment of evil (as some do) but because the discussions swiftly deviate from history to philosophical arguments about the nature of evil. All such arguments are a bloody waste of time in my opinion, but we're getting off topic here.

While it was a great tragedy, the war gave birth to a new hope within the people, a legend, that arose from the embers of the conflict: the Heroes of Camelia. This party was believed to be responsible for the end of the war, and though their extraordinary feats aroused suspicions from skeptics, the damage they inflicted on Fort Zaraban and the Imperial Cathedral was undeniable proof of their exploits.

They were awarded for their efforts after the war, with some leaving, finding other jobs, or settling down, but the whereabouts of the tactician who made everything possible and the Sage who worked closely with her remain unknown.
