Twenty Four

  I sat at the head of the table, looking at my family with warm eyes. Everyone was up and excited for the new day. My mother sat to my right, her sister, Lily to her right. To my left, Aunt Violet sat, with Theo to the left her of her. Beth sat next to Theo, while Dana sat next to Lily. Ptes were filled with a morning brunch of eggs, French toast, toast, juice, and fruit. My cousins ate most of it. Since my mother and her sisters weren’t completely human anymore, they would only nibble on the food.

  I listened as Violet and Theo whispered to each other and ughed. Beth and Dana talked to each other from across the table. My mother and aunty Lily talked quietly between themselves. It was nice, and rexing. Despite all the dark magic, blood sacrifices, and fighting the agents of light, for the first time in two years, it felt like we were simply just being a close family.

  Beth was talking as she gnced at me. When Dana began to talk, Beth smiled at me. Seeing my half-sister smiling was like a breath of fresh air. It was enough for me to speak about the temporary changes.

  I stood up and looked at everyone. The murmur of conversation died down as everyone turned their full attention to me.

  “It makes me very happy to have us home, together,” I began. “I know a lot has happened in the st two years. I know we’re all exhausted, and taking a much-needed break. That is why, for the time being, there will be some changes.”

  I cleared my throat and continued, “I want us to properly rest. That is why, Rose will be leading the coven for the time being.”

  All eyes turned to her. My mother simply gave them a knowing smile.

  I continued, “I am still the coven high priest, but I am passing my duties to my mother and high priestess. She has accepted to take this responsibly on, to ensure we all can rest before we resume with our work.

  “There will be some coven and family business to attend to. I have received letters from other members of our family. They have heard of our victories, and now wish to join us. I don’t mind if they are now taking us seriously. The more of them that bend to me, the better our dark crusade will continue. This will be something addressed soon.”

  “Oh, are we bringing back the family orgies?” Aunt Violet asked with a mischievous smile.

  I couldn’t hide my smile from her. “Only if you want them. Which leds me to something I want us to enjoy as we rest and rex.”

  I turned my attention back to everyone at the table. “This will be an extended holiday, for all of us. I want you all to enjoy your vices. Share them, make it special with our family, but there is something more I want.

  “I want us to document our time together. We don’t know what will happen when we return to opening rifts. We had a few close calls, and if any of us perish from a light bringer’s bde, or magic, I want what we have to live beyond us.

  “Early this morning, I set up our private server. Everyone will use their cellphones to record ourselves, and each other. It is networked for us only, and within the castle and surrounding grounds. I would thoroughly enjoy if we take advantage of it, and each other,” I finished with a smirk.

  Understanding washed over everyone present. They all looked at each other with warm, knowing eyes and smiles. I could feel the mood shift from a simple morning breakfast, to something lurid. It felt nice, seeing that everyone appeared to be in agreement.

  Aunt Lily looked across the table to her sister. “Just like old times, Violet,” she winked.

  Aunty Violet sat back in her chair with a wicked smile. “Oh, how I adored those times. Some of Edward’s brothers begged to record our trysts.   “I will monitor everything uploaded, and make it avaible to everyone here. I want us to be creative,” I added.

  Beth looked at me like she wanted to say something.

  “Beth?” I asked.

  “I know this is meant to help us rex, but what happens when family begins to arrive? Is this to be kept secret from them?”

  I smiled as my beautiful sister. “Mother and I already thought about that. Since they will be wanting to join us, we still must make sure they stay loyal. I don’t believe many will give up all their power to join the coven. There are still politics involved with the family, that is why I have been hesitant to invite them. They may not be as close to us as we are to each other here.”

  I could feel a darkness fill my eyes. “That is why, I want plenty of bckmail material. It will act as leverage should any of them step out of line. We have distant retives on both sides, but I am concerned about my father’s side of the family. They are power hungry, and I want to be sure we control all the power.”

  I shifted my gaze between Dana and Theo, “That also means, it’s not just sex. I want drugs and alcohol as well. I’m not sure when some of them may start arriving, but many of my aunts and uncles on my father’s side can push the line.”

  “Edward’s side of the family has always been hungry for power and knowledge. We can entice them, but they are quick to use things to their advantage. Their family is also much bigger than our side. We cannot let them overwhelm us,” my mother expined.

  “Lure them to us, and then take control,” Lily said with a knowing nod.

  “Precisely,” I said. “Many of them pretend to have normal lives. For a long time, they oversaw the family, but did little to move the crusade forward. If they want to be part of it now, they must kneel to us.

  “But aside from that, I want our coven to enjoy ourselves. Bring coven business to the high priestess. Bring any decadent desires and perversions to each other. Are we in agreement?”

  Everyone nodded without hesitation.

  I sat down, my heart beating with new purpose. I looked forward to what was to come. It could be messy, but I could feel everyone connected to me. Their minds worked as their hearts beat in relief. I think, I wasn’t the only one stressed out from the st two years. This was going to be good for all of us.

  I woke from my thoughts as I caught aunty Violent looking at me with hungry eyes.

  “I think, I need to help start your rest,” she said as she slid off her chair and onto her knees.
