Bomani

Omari is looking around his household, panicked.

  Looking this way and that.

Angrily flipping things and tables and cabinets.

He stops when he sees Bomani casually sitting before him, holding the family sword Amen stole for him.

  Omari says nothing.

  Bomani smiles.

  "Looking for this?"

  "What do you think?"

"I think it is not yours. By description, it looks like something that was stolen recently from a funeral."

"Do you want it?" Omari asks quickly.

  "No."

"Are you here to report me? Or take it back?"

  "No. Come on. Take it."

Bomani holds it out, taunting Omari.

Omari looks at it wearily. His hand shakes.

Bomani's hand is still and firm.

Omari grabs it and takes a step back.

  "What do you want, Madjay?"

"That sword was stolen from a dignitaries’ tomb," Bomani sarcastically announces.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"It was stolen from my family first," Omari corrects.

  Bomani stands and paces.

"Everyone steals everyone else's something. That is life. I don’t care about the object. I care about who did it."

"If you know about the sword, you know who did it."

"I want you to say his name. I want you to admit it," Bomani turns quickly.

  "I admit nothing."

"Fine," Bomani says. "I will tell you who I think did it. Amen, the former King of Thieves, as legend put him.

The most renowned thief Egypt had ever seen, until he disappeared one night. He took it for you."

Omari is silent, then speaks after some time.

"Amen's father was my best friend."

  Bomani's patience wanes.

"Omari, you have more political and social protection than some of the Pharaoh's family. Speak and I will leave. Why has Amen returned?"

  "His cousin was freed recently."

  Bomani nods. Some truth.

"Amen was a cold and ruthless thief. Then he moved up to stealing from the Pharaoh's only. The dead were his best target. He became a legend. And then he disappeared. Why?"

"Legends often do that. I don't know why. His cousin also took his punishment."

"Omari, where is Amen?" Bomani raising his voice.

  "Cairo."

  Bomani nods.

"This will be our agreement, Omari. I will track down Amen and whoever is with him. And I will kill him.

He did good disappearing. We are not going to let him wake up the dead again. Once he is dead, our business is done.

But if I cannot track him down, or he disappears again with some unknown treasure, you are taking his punishment"

  Omari smiles. Bomani does not.

"You better hope I kill your best friend's son."

"Bomani, when the Madjay catch thieves and villains, they never find the treasure. It is never returned. Isn't that interesting?"

  Bomani smiles and walks out.

Omari closes his eyes, hoping his friend will survive.
