Reappearing again, 13 said “Eyes, I just confirmed your results with the Administrator.”
I sat myself up to listen, and asked “And they are?”
13 looked disappointed, “Well, unfortunately you missed out on getting the Ranking I expected, but you should really blame that on me and not on yourself. I think I wasted a lot of your time and should’ve waited until you were done with the whole Tutorial before giving you my creation, it took too much time, and for that I am sorry.” 13 apologized, bowing her head down.
Feeling bad that she was unnecessarily apologizing, I said “You don’t have to apologize 13, it's not that big of a deal to me what place I got." I assured her "And there were plenty of ways I could’ve done the Tutorial faster to get a higher placing, like using my Available Points earlier on the Stats Tutorial for example. And besides, there’s no way I could’ve beat the Combat Tutorial without Infinity and the Skills I learned in the last Tutorial.” 13 raised her head and gave me another beautiful smile. “Anyway, what place did I make it on the Rankings then?”
“9 Players placed ahead of you, so you only got 10th place in the Rankings.” She said.
“10th place! What are you talking about, that’s great!” Pleasantly surprised. “The way you were talking and apologizing I thought I placed close to last place or something, but 10th ain’t bad at all, especially out of 10,000 people.”
“Oh, sorry to have misled you, you actually did really well.” 13 complimented. “And as your Reward for accomplishing such a feat, you are awarded a choice of one of the 10 completely unique Subclasses.” Gesturing her hands towards me, another screen showed up in front of me.
“And don’t worry, they all function regardless of Class.” 13 added.
Seeing basically all of the choices greyed out except for Seer, I sarcastically said “I wonder which one I should pick?”
“I think you can only pick Seer.” 13 responded, not getting my sarcasm, and it made me laugh a little.
I still tried to click on the other Subclasses, but nothing happened, and I thought “Wow that sucks, I can’t even know what the other Subclasses do, though I could probably easily guess what they did, and I’m sure the other Players ahead of me know what mine does.” Then clicking on Seer, it gave me a description.
“How ironic.” I chuckled to myself, thinking “But this Subclass sounds hella broken to me, even with its pretty simple description, so why didn't anyone else pick it? Were the other ones just that better? or did the Players just pick what they liked?" I wondered.
When I confirmed my choice, an intense ray of golden light jumped out of the screen and instantly blinded me again. I could feel something swirling around the inside and the outside of my eyes, and I freaked out at first, but I realized it was surprisingly painless, as I could feel it connect to my optic nerves, the retinas, and embedded itself in the entirety of my eyes. A few seconds passed and my vision returned perfectly fine, and I saw that there were a lot of new messages.
“What’s with this changing my name again, 13?” I asked curiously.
“Oh nothing much, just for those who wish to change their name to a new one they may have came up with, or to one they’d rather prefer.” 13 replied.
“Surprisingly mine is already perfect.” Clicking the No option, the screen disappeared from sight.
“You also now have access to the Social Menu, and will now be sent to the Waiting Hub.”
“The what?”
“This is goodbye for now, good luck and I hope to see you next time, Eyes Thalion.” 13 said, winking at me. But before I could respond again, the double doors appeared behind me and forcefully sucked me through them, and instantly I was teleported into another large white space but this one was different.
The whole space was a large walled circle filled with around 2500 people, and all of varying Classes and Race. From a pale-skinned armoured Elf man, who had a two-handed battle hammer on his back, and looked to be a Fighter Class; to a dark grey-skinned Dwarf woman, with a wooden staff 2ft taller than her, wearing a grey and blue robe, and who looked to be a Mage Class. But from what I could see right now, the majority of the people were different skinned Humans. I could identify all the Classes by armour, and noticed that all the 5 different armours for the Classes were the same if they were the same Class, but their weapons were almost all different, some choosing unconventional weapons.
“Looks like all these people finished the Tutorial ahead of me, but I still beat them in the Rankings if I got 10th, which means they probably didn’t finish all of the Hidden Quests." I thought to myself "I wonder how big of a difference it will be, knowing that they don’t all have the extra 100 points I do.”
Looking to where most of the people were gathered, above them floating in the center of the space was the timer counting down, and what I assume was a rule.
Waiting For Other Players: 3 Hours, 48 Minutes, 24 Seconds
COMBAT IS PROHIBITED
“I wonder which of these people are the 9 that placed ahead of me.” I thought to myself, walking to an uncrowded area by the wall. “Better keep to myself for now, I got a lot of things I didn't read yet, and I have plenty of time to look out for them later.” Sitting down against the wall, I put my hood up and read all the ignored notifications I got during the Combat Tutorial.
Opening the Skills Menu next, I took in the changes and read the new Skills.
“Seeing a Player’s Name and a Monster’s Level is a bit underwhelming, but what does seeing Significance mean?” Not having a clue, I moved on to the next Skill.
“Wow that sounds pretty morbid to collect eyes, but I wonder if it’s just being figurative? Now let’s see what these benefits are.” Clicking on Eye Collection to see what the eyes I collected were and their benefit.
“Interesting, but I think these eyes are already in effect so I won’t notice the difference until I get a different type of eye.” Reading the final Skill.
Eager about the sound of the Skill, I thought “No way this works, but I gotta try.” Closing my eyes, I tried my best to clear my mind, relax, and to focus on my breathing. Everything I thought a person needed to enter into a trance, but the more I focused, the more I realized my senses were way better than before. I could hear all the thousands of voices and conversations nearby being mushed together in my ears, and that only increased as time went by and more people arrived from finishing the Tutorial.
I gave up after 15 minutes of trying, and said to myself “Well that was a total waste of time, I guess I should try using Eyes Of A Seer next.” The moment I said the Skill’s name, I felt a strange sensation in my eyes, almost as if they were different, and I was immediately overwhelmed by the sight of words. Floating above the crowds of people, their countless different names appeared atop of their head, and were all white in colour. Names ranging from familiar ones like John, to foreign ones like Adeben. There were also joke and meme ones like My Guide Was Karen, and ones that looked to be full of anger, Fuck You Return Me Back. While I looked through the thousands of names, a few people really stood out to me.
In the middle of the crowd surrounded by young boys and men, I noticed a group of young girls and women, but more specifically a young fair-skinned Elf girl named Dream Manic Pixie. She had dirty blonde hair, wore the simple white and brown robe of a Healer Class, and happily conversed with everyone around her, but the only reason she caught my eyes was because she carried a unique looking shield. With a long hexagon shape, the shield covered the entirety of her back, and had a dull grey crystal shaped as a compass rose placed in the center of it. I immediately thought, “That shield must be like my quiver, which probably means she could be one of the ones who placed ahead of me.” And seeing her made me try to look around for the others.
In the distance, I saw an extremely eye-catching woman standing by herself. Wearing the half plate armour of the Fighter Class, the woman carried about 7 or 8 different weapons on her back and waist, and held a round shield in her right hand. The name above her head was Lavie En Rouge, but I couldn’t see her face as it was covered by a unique ram horn helmet she wore, and it was unlike the plain open face helmets the other Fighters had. She also had beautiful long light red hair escaping from the bottom of the helm.“That makes two.” I said to myself.
Looking to the opposite side of the space, there was a smug looking kid named Faust. He had darkish chocolate brown skin and white coloured short afro textured hair and had it faded on the sides. Wearing the grey and blue robe of a Mage Class, he had a staff leaning against his shoulder, and had a dull grey octahedron shaped crystal hovering around him. “That’s another one, but he looks as young as that Elf girl, did I really just get out ranked by these kids?” I laughed at myself, continuing to observe the space.
“Oh? Is that another one?” I asked myself in surprise, immediately spotting a hooded Dwarf with bronze skin and a great dark black beard. He was nonchalantly strolling around and twirling an old looking key on a really long chain. The Dwarf’s name appeared as Tobias Casper Grim, and he carried a crossbow on his back, a short sword on his waist and a dagger on his chest, and wore the dark leather armour of the Rogue Class. “He must be one, right?” Unsure.
I tried to look out for the others, but it became increasingly more difficult as the timer in the sky went done, and even more people arrived and filled the space. I eventually gave up, and thought “I wonder if I should make contact with the ones I already saw?” Unsure if I should approach them or how to do so without sounding creepy, I remembered I had access to the Social Menu and opened it up.
Wanting to see the Rankings first, I clicked it and it showed all the Rankings for Tutorial, but I only cared about the top 10.
1st- Lavie En Rouge
2nd- Tobias Casper Grim
3rd- Omega
4th- Xian
5th- Dream Manic Pixie
6th- Faust
7th- Casino
8th- Essex
9th- Da Vinci
10th- Eyes Thalion
….
“Looks like I was right about the people I saw earlier, but I wasn’t able to find the others.” Reading each of their names, and trying my best to keep them in my memory. “Even if I know the Rankings now, I still don’t exactly know who's got which Subclass.” I also noticed there were Rankings for other things if I swiped the screen. From Highest Level, Quests Done, Bosses Killed, and etc.
Going back to the Social Menu, I skimmed through the other three Menus as they were pretty boring and exactly what I expected them to be. Messages was like texting or a chat room, Party was for making small groups, and Friends was for adding or blocking people. Though having went through all the Social Menus, I came to the realization that they wanted us to communicate with each other if there were Menus for it, and I ended up typing up a Friend Request to send out.
“Is that good enough of a message?” Questioning myself for a few minutes. “Aww, fuck it." Sending each of the Top 10 the same Request, "If they decline the Request so be it, it’s not like we absolutely need to talk or work with each other anyway.” I laid back onto the ground, and said to myself “Now I just gotta wait for their replies.”
