The Broken Lands are new to both Sophia and Dav, but they’re starting to find their way. The Guide seems less and less like the Voice Sophia is used to, but they’ve finally managed to figure out how people manage: by working together and sharing information. They’ve even made a friend, Amy Hunter, who has turned out to be a bit more than she originally seemed. Ci’an Aurorachild is the daughter of the ruler of Izel; more importantly right now, her brother is leading an expedition into the Wildlands.

  The last of the bandits that threw them into the Broken Lands is now dead, but that doesn’t mean they have a way home. As far as Sophia is concerned, that’s fine; she doesn’t need to go home yet. She always wanted an adventure, and an adventure is just what this is turning out to be. Why, they’re even heading towards ruins from the civilization that fell approximately sixteen hundred years ago; this might be Sophia’s best chance to imitate the movies, where ruins always hold both dangers and wonders.
