Chapter 37 Is Jean The New Favorite

Kara stretched her arms over her head, letting out a rexed sigh as she y sprawled across her couch, completely at ease. Jean’s fingers pressed lightly against her temples, psychic energy flowing smoothly into her mind, a gentle warmth that wrapped around her thoughts like a comforting embrace. This had become a regur thing now—Jean’s mind massages. And honestly? Kara loved them.

“I still don’t get how this works,” Kara muttered, her eyes half-lidded, body completely loose under the influence of Jean’s touch. “But I’m not questioning it.”

Jean chuckled softly, keeping her tone smooth and rexing. “It’s all about bance. Your mind is powerful, Kara, but it holds more energy than anything else I’ve ever felt. I just help you distribute it better. Think of it like… psychic acupuncture.”

Kara hummed, feeling her muscles completely unwind, her thoughts slowing down. “If acupuncture felt this good, I think more people would get it.”

Jean smiled, but inside, she was already reaching deeper. Not to control. Never to force. Kara was immune to that. No, Jean had learned quickly that Kara’s mind was untouchable in the way most others weren’t. She couldn’t impnt ideas, couldn’t bend Kara’s will to her own.

But she could give her dreams.

  And dreams? Dreams left impressions.

Every night, when Kara drifted into sleep, Jean followed her. She wrapped her presence around Kara’s subconscious, slipping in soft whispers, warm touches, sensations that made Kara feel wanted, loved, cherished. It wasn’t manipution. It was bonding. And Kara? Kara enjoyed it.

“You sleep well these days, don’t you?” Jean murmured.

Kara grinned zily. “Oh yeah. Best dreams ever. I always wake up feeling great.”

Jean’s lips curled slightly. “That’s good to hear.”

  It was working.

Kara enjoyed her presence. She wanted Jean there, even if she didn’t fully realize why.

  Perfect.

She trailed her fingers down Kara’s temples, brushing her cheek just slightly before pulling back. “All done.”

Kara stretched again, her shirt riding up slightly, revealing her toned stomach, her fwless skin. Jean took a slow, deep breath through her nose, controlling herself, forcing herself to py the long game.

Kara sat up, running a hand through her hair. “Man, if I didn’t have this, I’d probably be way more stressed.”

Jean smirked, tilting her head. “Then we better keep doing them regurly.”

Kara grinned. “You don’t have to tell me twice.”

Across the room, Natasha watched the exchange in silence, arms crossed. She wasn’t an idiot—she saw exactly what Jean was doing.

She’d let it slide. For now.

  That night, Kara dreamed.

  Soft whispers. Warm touches.

  She wasn’t alone.

Jean’s presence was there, wrapping around her, comforting but intimate, familiar but enticing. She wasn’t maniputing. She didn’t need to.

  Kara accepted her.

And when Kara woke up, she smiled.

Jean stretched zily the next morning, sitting at the dining table, her fingers lightly tapping against the surface as she listened to the rest of the house wake up.

Wanda entered first, grabbing a cup of tea, giving Jean a knowing gnce.

“You’re having fun, aren’t you?” Wanda smirked, taking a sip of her drink.

Jean smiled sweetly. “What do you mean?”

Wanda’s eyes gleamed. “You’re pying a long game. You’re feeding off her energy.”

Jean didn’t deny it. “She enjoys it.”

Wanda hummed. “I bet she does.”

Natasha entered next, fixing herself a coffee, eyes narrowing slightly as she gnced at Jean. “You’re getting comfortable here.”

Jean smirked. “Isn’t that the point?”

Natasha leaned against the counter. “You’re different from the others. You don’t try to impress her. You just... stay close. That’s dangerous.”

Jean’s smile never wavered. “Kara doesn’t seem to mind.”

Natasha exhaled through her nose, shaking her head before taking a sip of coffee. “I’m watching you.”

Jean chuckled, resting her chin in her hand. “I’d be disappointed if you weren’t.”

Later that day, Gwen stood beside Rogue in the training area, arms crossed as they both watched Jean talking to Kara in the distance.

“She’s pulling ahead,” Gwen muttered, narrowing her eyes.

Rogue smirked. “She’s pyin’ it smart.”

Gwen sighed, rubbing her temple. “I need to step it up. If I wait too long, she’s gonna be completely in Kara’s head.”

Rogue chuckled. “You mean she ain’t already?”

  Gwen scowled but said nothing.

  They both knew the truth.

  Jean was winning.

Xavier sat in his office, his fingers steepled as he stared bnkly at the reports in front of him.

  Something wasn’t right.

He had tried again and again to read Kara’s mind, to get a glimpse of the force surrounding her—and every time, he failed. It wasn’t psychic resistance. It was something else. Something bigger.

And now, Jean was tangled up in it.

She had been different tely. More in control. More composed.

He could feel the Phoenix humming beneath the surface, but it was calm.

  Why?

  What had changed?

  He needed to know.

Because whatever was happening, Kara was at the center of it.

  And that terrified him.

That night, Jean sat in her room, staring at her hands, feeling the power flowing beneath her skin.

  Kara’s power.

She was feeding off it, but Kara wasn’t weakening. She wasn’t fading like the others.

  She was endless.

Jean smirked, tracing a finger along her lips.

“They’re all fighting for her,” she murmured, her voice ced with quiet amusement.

Her eyes glowed faintly as the Phoenix whispered in the back of her mind.

"But only I own her mind."

  Jean stretched, exhaling softly.

  This was only the beginning.
