Chapter 7: The True Moonlight
TL: Etude
In the early m of the following day, the dawn spread its light everywhere.
Jiang Qin slipped out of his house, rode his bicycle around the city, and theered the Jizhou City Zoo.
Due to it being both a Sunday and the summer holidays, the entrao the zoo was teeming with people, more crowded than a temple fair.
An hour ter, Jiang Qin squeezed out of the zoo, almost losing his shoes in the process.
Oside, he squatted at the entrance, gulping down a rge amount of water, then took out his Nokia phone and called Guo Zihang, asking him to e over.
Guo Zihang’s house was not far from there. Upon receiving Jiang Qin’s call, he immediately hopped on his bike and rushed over, puffing along the way. Despite being drenched i, he was in high spirits.
He looked forward to being summoned by Brother Jiang every day, always feeling that there was a ake money. But when he found Jiang Qin, he couldn’t help but freeze on the spot.
There was Jiang Qin, squatting on the ground, holding a plucked chi in each hand.
“What are you doing, Brother Jiang?”
Jiang Qin shook the chis in his hands: “Bought two chis for ten yuan. I’m giving you oake it home a your mom stew it for you.”
Guo Zihang g the zoo’s signboard, bewildered but impressed: “How e you’re bringing your own animals to the zoo?”
“Nht, bought. These are for feeding the tigers in the zoo. A chi in the market sells for eleven yuan, but buying theirs, which is meant for their tigers, is half the price.”
“Then… why didn’t you feed the tigers?”
After hearing this, Jiang Qin’s gaze sharpened: “Why should I feed the tigers with half-priced chis I bought with my own skills?”
Guo Zihang opened his mouth, hesitated for a while before speaking: “You’re exploiting the zoo.”
“Stop the nonsense, do you want it or not?”
“Yes, I love chi!”
Guo Zihang took the chi handed over by Jiang Qin, clutched the chi’s neck, and his expression suddenly became plicated.
He could almost imagine a se where the zoo’s tigers and the keepers were reg the ats, but the numbers just didn’t add up.
The tiger said, I did it, don’t falsely accuse me!
The keeper said, stop it, it was you who ate it.
The tiger said, you accuse me of stealing chis and think it’s justified? Anyway, I did it.
The keeper said, if not you, then who? A dog?
“Brother Jiang, why are you buying chis from the zoo?”
“I pn to buy these half-priced chis in bulk, shem out, ahem in the market for ten yuan each. I double my money in no time.”
“Then why did you only buy two?”
“I estimated that the security guard at the zoo entrance is a bit tough, and I don’t think I take him. So, I called you to be the vanguard a his bat value.”
“Don’t, Brother Jiang, I’m the most cowardly. I even stutter when I scold someone!”
“Useless thing, all you know is eating!”
Jiang Qin put his chi into a pstic bag and opened a bottle of mineral water for a drink.
Speg like this made money fast, but it couldn’t be a long-term strategy. He didn’t want to cause trouble; he just wao make money without hassle. Besides, such petty tricks were far from his goal after being reborn.
Jiang Qin stood up, handed his chi to Guo Zihang to take back for him, and then rode his bike to his stop, the Jizhou City Library.
He was troubled about how to earn his first pot of gold, having thought of various methods but none seemed feasible.
Damn, g a system really makes everything so much harder.
However, even without a clear idea, Jiang Qin was not pnning to stay idle at home. He believed iruth he had learned in his previous life: once a person starts to bee zy, they tend to get even herefore, he decided to go to the library to find some books, hoping to find inspiration, perhaps a hidden treasure within the pages.
“How to Bee a Charming Man That Rien Love”
“Effective Openers Wheing a Wealthy Woman”
“Fifteelemanly Details That Impress Rien”
“The Gmorous Transformation of the Third Geion Monk Tang”
“Successful Cases of Keeping pany with Rien”
Jiang Qin picked several books from the humanities and social sces se, intending to study them carefully.
Holy, he felt that the only shortcut to his first fortune uhe current circumstances was to keep pany with a rian. Being a young and strong man, earning mohrough physical bor was not shameful.
Holding a stack of books, Jiang Qin headed to the reading area, but before he could sit down, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a er in the southeast.
There sat a young girl, wearing a waist-g long dress. The small portion of her arm resting oable was fairer than snow, her eyes beh dense eyeshes sparkled like water, her red lips were moist and full, and her soft, long hair cascaded down her shoulders, shining like pearls uhe sunlight.
The girl was engrossed in a thick book, her eyes flickering, serene and well-behaved.
Jiang Qin paused, as a reted memory seemed to be activated in his mind.
Feng Nanshu, the studious girl of css one, grade twelve, a silent and unreachable beauty, the true moonlight of gnan High School.
Rumors said she was chauffeured to and from school in a winged car, apanied by a personal driver and bodyguard, hinting at a mysterious family background.
Some said her father was a wealthy businessman in iional trade, others cimed she rincess exiled from the capital, and there were even whispers of her being an illegitimate daughter who couldn’t be exposed to the public. The rumors varied, but their credibility was low.
Yet, Feng Nanshu indeed possessed the demeanor of a rich family’s daughter, aloof in character, friendless, and besides answering questions in css, she never spoke a word to anyone else.
It was this ice-cold demeanor, bined with the intimidation of her burly bodyguards, that made her admired by many but approachable by none.
Chu Siqi had already been the youth crush of many, but she paled in parison to Feng Nanshu.
Even after attending uy, Jiang Qin had met many girls who could rival Chu Siqi, but Feng Nanshu remained an astonishing presen his memory.
Mr. Lu Xun was indeed right – books do hold beauties as fair as jade. [Famous ese writer]
But did Lu Xun really say that?
Jiang Qin pondered, deg it didn’t matter. If he couldn’t remember the author, then it must have been said by Lu Xun.
Meanwhile, Feng Nanshu seemed to sense someone’s gaze on her and gnced over with a raised eyebrow.
In the moment their eyes met, her eyeshes trembled slightly, and she quickly refocused on the book in her hands.
Indeed, she was aloof.
Jiang Qin gave a fair assessment, then walked over and sat at the table opposite her.
Reading was a tedious affair, and taking a break to admire a beautiful woman was a good choice. Reading to make money, and admiriy to tinue reading – in the end, both were tools, not tradig his principle of money being paramount.
Jiang Qin took out a book and pced it in front of him, his gaze iently falling on the book in Feng Nanshu’s hands.
“The Magic Eyed Girl Peggy Sue”
Hmm?
Shouldn’t a girl with such a cold temperament be reading something like “Kafka on the Shore”, a novel with a literary air? Why was she reading a fantasy adventure novel seemingly aimed at younger readers?
Just as Jiang Qin was slightly startled, the novel in front of him moved upwards.
The half-exposed face was now pletely covered, even those beautiful eyes were hidden from view.
Jiang Qin regained his focus, uo help raising an eyebrow.
Not even a glimpse of her face?
Aloof, truly aloof.
Jiang Qin didn’t mind and simply started flipping through the book in front of him.
