"Hey! Amy! Could you go see Doctor Gilbert in his office once you’re done with what you’re doing in there?” asked Georgia, Amy’s co-worker.
"OK! Thanks, Georgia, I’ll be back behind my desk in a few minutes,” responded Amy.
Amy Walter had been working as a secretary at a psychiatric centre since she was 23. For the first time, she felt completely overwhelmed by her work’s requirements. Since her shift had started on that particular day, she had been receiving an obscene number of calls from both the centre’s usual patients and people who were just wanting to see a psychiatrist. It was completely understandable, given the approaching UFO, but she still needed to hide in the ladies’ bathroom every thirty minutes or so.

“Why isn’t the Deoxyribonucleic acid reacting? Even the serum is intact,” was wondering William.
Following the morning’s announcement about the UFO, it had become quite an ordeal for him to focus on his work. He had a look at his computer’s clock and forced himself to keep on contemplating the myriad of possibilities that he and his co-workers needed to figure out before the end of the year. As a biologist, William was working at a start-up, a company for which he was undergoing biological research in the hope of gaining a better understanding of the link between human DNA and human behaviour. Someone knocked at his door.
“Come in.”
“What’s up, Will?” asked Gerard, William’s boss, upon entering the room.
“Hey, Gerard! How’s it going? I’m just trying to figure out what to do next with the experiment we conducted last week.”
“OK, so, what did you find out?”
“Well, nothing as of yet. No clue about why the DNA isn’t reacting to our concoction in any way, shape nor form.”
“Oh! I see. That sucks. Well, I’m gonna let you focus on your work, then.”
“OK, see you in a few hours.” Twenty seconds later, the door was knocking again.
“Hey… Will...?”
“Yes, Gerard?”
“Did you hear about the UFO approaching us?”
“Yes.”
“You did? Why do I always feel like I’m the last one to catch up on things?”
“Don’t know.”
“Gosh! I’m… I’m gonna let you do your work, now.”
“K.”
Gerard then closed the door, before suddenly reopening it. He was clearly nervous.

“Will, do you think they are blue?”
“Who? The aliens? And how would I know, Gerard?”
“Well, I don’t know… I just assumed that you might have an idea about how they might look since you are very knowledgeable in biology.”
“Well, I have no idea. They may or may not be blue. I’m an Earth biologist. How would I know about aliens?”
“I guess you’re right. One can only hope. OK! Ciao, now.”
“Bye.”
As Gerard pulled the door handle to close it, he stopped midway. “One more thing, Will…”
“Hmmph… Yes, go ahead, Gerard.”
“Could they possibly be baby blue? Or cerulean blue?”
In response, William placed his right hand on his forehead.

“Hey, Joshua. Where’s Kim?”
“I don’t know, Dad. Just wait, she’ll come.”
“Alright. Anyway, how was your day, Josh?”
“Not too bad. It was a good day overall.”
“You got me worried, now. You never say a school day is good.”
“Well, it was just a good day. I even got to talk to new people.”
As Joshua was talking to his dad, Aurelia passed by and said goodbye to Joshua.
“Is that a new friend?” asked his father.
“Her? Nah… Just another individual who doesn’t like Dragon Ball Z.”
“I see.”
“Oh, hey, look: it’s Kim,” said Amy while pointing at her from the car’s right-side window.
“What’s up, guys?” said Kim as she got next to the car.
“Not much, just get in the car,” William swiftly answered.
“Alright, no need to be this grumpy.”
A deafening silence established itself in the car and went on for a while. Realizing that everybody was minding their own business, William tried to shake things up.
“What do you guys think? Will the aliens happen to be green, blue, baby blue, purple, or whichever colour they turn out to be?”
Amy was stupefied by his question.
“What’s your intent behind such a question?”
“None,” replied William while looking at his wife, whose face was exhibiting a confused look.
“Nothing weird,” reiterated William.
“You look mad sus, Dad,” added Joshua with an amused tone of voice.
“OK! This whole conversation is taking another turn. Let’s just pretend I didn’t say that, alright? Aren’t you guys just thrilled by the fact that aliens are real?”
“Honestly, I’m beyond thrilled,” confirmed Kimberly. “But, ’come to think of it, since we don’t know what’s gonna happen next, it’s also kind of frightening.”
“Indeed,” added Amy. “This whole thing is kind of … surreal.”
Her words shifted the whole atmosphere in the car. The fact that the UFO was real was finally sinking in. Everybody kept silent. Once they got home, each went their separate way. The silence extended until sunset, and then they all went to sleep.
