The first optional task is the standard "befriended" protagonist task, except this time Rin is also included. While the holy grail war itself is already hard enough, the optional task probably elevates the difficulty to a real hell level because he needs to make sure everyone survives. In certain routes, there is always a chance that some heroine going to die and he needs to prevent them all from dying.
Sakura and Ilya alone have a very high chance of dying... though he already had a pn to save both of their life.
And stly, the optional task... Kaito still did not understand what it wanted. Become a friend with root? Kaito was sure Root wasn't even an alive object. Even befriending inhibitor force (Aya and Gaia) makes more sense than Root itself.
For now, Kaito decides to ignore the st task until he gets the holy grail since to even communicate with Root, he still has to win the holy grail war after all.
And his pn to win this holy grail war... is trying his best to stick to the plot until it deviates a lot from the original (eventually). Besides, he also needs to befriend with protagonist, and using the original plot at the beginning is the best way to achieve that.
From Lancer, Rider, Medea, Hercules, and most importantly Gilgamesh... none of them are easy to fight, especially with his limited energy and no assistance from the system. Although Kaito is confident to win against them all except Gilgamesh, he doesn't dare to risk the chance and chooses to be cautious.
