Chapter 29: Swapping Precedence

Once again, Nagami found herself the recipient to the aftermath of Zalroth's antics, the sight of the sleeping Trikuel making her nerves boil with rage, the only saving grace for her being that Zalroth kept his word and didn't fight any unnecessary battles. Even with what she deemed a saving grace, having a random girl come out of nowhere and be so clingy with Zalroth still bit her the wrong way, like when someone starts eating the food you ordered after they said they weren't hungry. Trying to cool her jets with a short huff through her nose, Nagami rolled her eyes, playing it cool, so Zalroth didn't get the idea she was jealous of a girl, of all things.

"Geez, and here I thought Yai was the tamer of the group, though at least she gets more traditional monsters that have production potential," Yumi Yuna remarked smugly as she walked over from the ironwood shed in the corner of the Reino's backyard.

[Yumi Yuna Kazokato is a short[kid-sized], teenaged human with an appearance mistakable for being a child; she has bold, super curly, light pink hair with knee-low twin tails, maroon red eyes with faintly pale pink scleras, and pale tanned skin]

[Yumi Yuna is wearing a fluffy pale maroon pink open hoodie with a black serpant dragon detailing on the back and four fake black dragon horns on the hood, black leggings with pale maroon pink scale-looking detailings, a frilly black crop top, and white Crocs]

"You got the ores, bub?" Yumi Yuna asked with a swagger in her step, tracing a few circles around Zalroth as a drooling Zalina followed her path, looking for any loose treasure coins on the atomic synergist's person.

"Yeah-yeah, I got all the high iron and whatnot you lot wanted, Teen Idol; Trikuel even had that mythril and orichalcum stuff Nagami mentioned," Zalroth stated casually before a pop-up screen appeared beside Yumi Yuna. Satisfying the girl with the haul, Yumi Yuna brushed her fingers through her ponytail in a bratty way before she hopped over to the temporary alchemy table inside the curtained area with Zalina slowly fluttering behind her, hoping to snag a few more treasure coins by playing on YY's weakness for small and cute creatures.

"She had a bunch of mythril and orichalcum, you say...?" Nagami murmured loudly, eyeing the sleeping mimic with a heavy stare. But her stare slowly lightened, left pondering and considering that Zalroth probably didn't have any reason to lie, Nagami eventually relented on her suspicion of Trikuel.

"Well, I suppose she can't be all that bad if she's willing to part with stuff like that."

"It's probably because she wants to get rid of all the ores the bandits forced her to store," Zalroth explained, mentioning Trikuel basically oozed animosity towards the bandits in her sleep the whole way out of the mine, relenting only when the bandits were brought into custody and giggling when the lot were unceremoniously dropped on the floor by Yai's slimes. Hearing what was said, Nagami seemed satisfied about the issue of Trikuel's sense of morality. However, the fact the bandits were using Trikuel as a method of storage left a single concern in Nagami's mind, leading her to wonder on the legality of keeping any ores the mimic girl handed over.

"Are you sure it's okay for us to use ores that the bandits basically stole?"

"I brought that up to Naz, and he said I could keep the loot. Something about how it would make things easier for him, and having less paperwork to fill out, given such rare material was involved," Zalroth stated confusedly as he found the guard captain's insistence odd. Hearing the ores were basically free game, Nagami perked up with renewed vigor, her eyes gleaming to the point it'd blind someone if her eyes could glow for real.

"Heh, guess there are people in this world who hate tedious paperwork too," Nagami said with cheek, "Not that I'm complaining, just means the Craft-Team's project can begin!"

With the conclusion of the blacksmith's remark, a large chunk of orichalcum landed beside Nagami, dwarfing her in size slightly as smaller chunks of mythril landed around the ground. Trikuel heartily yawned in her sleep, the vibrations of her body shook Zalroth's spine, leaving Nagami to mutter amusedly, "Okay, even I wasn't expecting such large pieces."

"Mr Zalroth, captian guy wants to talk to you," Fio said out of the blue and with a shaky voice, briefly poking her head out from the smithy's backdoor. With the message passed on, the little blacksmith quickly slinked back into the forge, hoping she hadn't been spotted by the sleeping Trikuel. Seeing her out, Nagami swiftly stowed the ores away in her Inventory and skipped herself over to the curtained area beside the ironwood shed.

In front of the smithy, Zalroth made his way around the building, not through the intended side-fence door, but by teleporting onto the roof. Landing on a single roof shingle, he stood unsteady, briefly needing to adjust his mental location of his centre of balance due to Trikuel's addition to his back. Particle Warping to the ground, Zalroth rolled his unoquiped shoulder, snapping the tension out of it with a click as he thought, "Hmm... seems I can Particle Warp anyone I'm in physical contact with."

Left in deep thought about the revelation, Zalroth didn't process Naz's presence right beside him until the captain began to speak, "I would once again like to give my thanks, Zalroth. If it weren't for you and your friends' assistance, me and the other guards would have never suspected bandits were hiding in the mines and using a mimic to mess with the golem totem."

"You're way too formal, Mr Voice Missmatcher," Trikuel grumbled, stirred from her curse-induced slumber by Naz's deep voice. Naz jumped lightly, a faint chuckle in his throat that even a monster had to comment on his voice. As Trikuel grumbled incoherently and returned to sleep without the use of her curses, a pair of footsteps, coming from the direction of the mine entrance, approached with distinctive rhythms, one crass and bold while the other swift and elegant.

"Ayo, captain guard man, we've dealt with all the extra golems," the male half-elf adventurer called out cheerfully, slightly boastful at he and his party member's quick quest completion. But, as the two adventurers reached Naz and Zalroth, the half-elf instantly snapped his attention to Trikuel, his eyes almost bulging with shock as he pointed out, "Ayo, she's got no eyes."

[Quevein is a tall half-elf/half-human male with the appearance of a teenager; he has slightly spikey greenish-blond hair, light lavender eyes, pale skin, and short elf ears]

[Quevein is wearing light steel padded, lavender fighter armour]

"How observant," the female half-lion demi-human adventurer quipped coldly, her words laced with annoyance at how the guy can somehow start all his sentences with the word ayo, and even have them mean different things in this case.

[Sintella is a young adult, tall, half-human/half demi-human lion; she has neck-low red hair with an elbow-low high ponytail, silver eyes, fair skin, sharp fangs, red lion ears and tail]

[Sintella is wearing a short, magely robe with a steel-threaded hoodless cloak embroidered using silver]

"I take it that's the mimic you mentioned those bandits had, Mr Alvio?" Sintella asked professionally, silently observing the sleeping mimic for any signs of hostility and considering if Zalroth might be being controlled by the mimic, or even worse, the mimic itself. Noticing the untrusting glint in Sintella's eyes, Naz raised a calming hand to the adventurers, trying to reassure Sintella in particular by saying, "There's no need to worry, young Zalroth here is more than capable of handling Trikuel here."

"Is that so? It must mean he knows something about those bright lights people could see from Kroutella, then?" Sintella asked curiously, the caution in her tone lessening. As she recalled, the citizens of Gronoville mentioned a strong traveller defending the town from a strong monster. But she found it odd that they used the word traveller instead of adventurer. Wondering how strong the guy was to have a guard captain so calm beside a party wiping monster, Sintella subtly employed her Appraisal Sub-Skill, the breath in her throat almost choked her as the sight of Zalroth's level took her by surprise, draining some blood from her face in the process.

"You good? You look like you've seen a shattered dungeon arch," Quevein questioned, a mix of concern and playfulness in his voice as he cheekily nudged his elbow against his party member. Almost not hearing the half-elf, Sintella was left in a stunned state, only breaking free from her mind on the fourth elbow nudge to her side.

"Ya-yeah, just felt like I forgot something," Sinvalla lied, blurting out the first thing to come to mind.

"And here you were going on about getting this quest done as fast as possible, so we'd be back home by tomorrow for that cafe or whatever," Quevein remarked before feeling a tight grip on his shoulder. Turning his head in dread, Quevein was met by Sinvalla's death glare, sending ripples of terror through the guy. Not needing to be told what to do but mostly just not wanting to let the woman get any angrier, Quevein snatched the mage off her feet before sprinting for the quickest path out of the two, activating all his speed related skills/abilities to push his speed to its limits and turning him into a blur to anyone other than Zalroth.

"Should've put those crest things on those bandits," Zalina whispered into Zalroth's ear, acting like the devil on his shoulder, not the kind that makes people do bad decisions, but the kind to make people feel stupid for their inaction.

  "Shut it."

  "Yes, sir."

Zalina sheepishly ducked behind a nearby lumi-gem-powered lamp-post, sensing the wave of hostility from Zalroth and fearing she'd be punished with not getting any treasure coins for a whole hour.

"My-my, Zalroth. I thought Nagami was exaggerating about your response to missing that bear monster's skill. But, with a reaction like that, I dread to think what'll happen if something warrenting such a reaction were to happen," Lurioku joked as he popped their head above Zalorth, floating above the guy by some unseen force with the ocasional spark of electricity under his body serving as the only inkling to how he was being suspended.

[Lurioku Zulioka is a slightly short, feminine-looking, teenaged male human; he has slightly long spikey dark purple hair, dark purple eyes, and dark tanned skin]

[Lurioku is wearing a fluffy pale teal sweater, a super long wool scarf that's made of pale yellow and pale teal squares, dark blue short trousers, and dark blue boots]

The clacking of wooden getas striking against the tiled floor shot past the teasing guy, his cheeky demeanor turning into soured terror as Aoina emerged from Golemight Smithy's side door. Zalroth scoffed, the guy's words stinging him even harder than Zalina's teasing, as he silently turned his head to the side and looked at the female class president.

[Aoina Nezakaia is a slightly tall, teenaged human female; she has long curly dark red hair braided at the ends with black metallic beads, white eyes, and radiant light skin]

[Aoina is wearing a black leotard covered in a dark red pattern resembling the outlines of dragon scales, dark red wool thigh-high leggings, a dark red fuzzy wool kosode that she wears open and only has her arms in the sleeves up to her biceps, and ironwood getas]

"Care to deal with this guy?"

"With pleasure," Aoina uttered emotionlessly, looking at the floating guy with hidden scorn. Despite the lack of any in her demeanor, her words were somehow charged with murderous coldness, belying her deeply suppressed secret obscured by her practiced emotionless poker face. Knowing what awaited him if he were caught, Lurioku zipped away, shooting down the street while announcing he'll be taking Al's spot on the travel team.

"Is he for real?" Zalroth grumbled, raising a hand to his head as he hoped Lurioku was teasing him and lying, the mere prospect of the potential or inkling he'd be travelling with that teaser sending the guy spiralling. Much to his dismay, Zalroth's question was swiftly answered by the emotionless class president, her tone equally as cold as it was to the male class president, "Sadly not, for you. Nowa, Kaze, and Philip wished to return to camp to level up some more."

Zalroth sagged his shoulders, in utter dismay that he'd have to put up with the antics of Lurioku for a while. The only saving grace of the situation for him was that Aoina being the one to tell him meant she'd be one of three to fill the empty travelling spots. While Zalroth wallowed in a less intense dismay, Naz stood there, rigid as a rock at the sight of Aoina, spooked mostly to death that someone of a church-related class was in Gronoville without even as much as a week's notice.
