Chapter 56-Flying goals

"That was... honestly disappointing." Roy sighs.

"I told you I couldn't fly!" Teir pouts.

"It's been awhile since you st flew. You just have to practice." I tell her.

Teir's flight attempt wasn't exactly what you call... successful. Now, she didn't fail, I mean, she got a good couple of feet off the ground. She just fell after only a few seconds. It's better than when she first got injured at least. We're nearing Hostice quite fast. Just three days on the road and a lot of starving ter. Only a few hours, I can't wait to finally get some sleep. We've had to sleep under leafless trees and rain for the past days. Somehow.

Midgure was the only one not compining this whole trip. He does have fur which I'm honestly jealous of, but he's pretty tough for being so... I guess I should say, weak or maybe non-strong would work better.

The rge beams of mana are still appearing. The demons just don't let up! It's surprising we haven't run into any more of them recently. I'm not sure how we'd deal with another one of those. Midgure's injury still hasn't healed from the st one, and we recently found out that Hilt sprained her ankle. I still don't quite know how she never noticed it, it ended up swelling to the size of an apple.

"What's the pn when we get to Hostice?" Roy asks.

"My pns to sleep a whole week!" Midgure ughs.

"We shouldn't rest long. This is already a long detour, there's no saying how far the targets moved." Hilt says.

"I agree. We shouldn't stay longer than tonight." I say.

Roy groans and his posture slouches slightly. He pretends to trip and stumble around, smming into Midgure. Instead of falling over, he unches himself up and on top of Hilt's box.

"Thanks man." Roy sighs, "I needed this."

Midgure bends his head back and holds it up for a second. His head sms into Roy's chest, in response, Roy flings himself off the box and crashes onto the ground. I can't help but let out a chuckle at this. I don't like these guys but, they're so stupid it's honestly funny. They should work at a comedy brothel instead of adventuring, they'd have men lining out the door for them. Well, Roy would at least, he's skinny enough to be a consort of sorts.

The map shows we're nearly there. We could probably see it, but there's a huge mountain in our way. There is a tunnel that goes straight through it luckily, if we had to go all the way around, I probably would have just destroyed the mountain myself. I do want to keep moving, but it's getting kind of unbearable.

Caleb once told me he traveled for weeks straight once with no break, I wonder if this is how he felt. It makes me seem pretty pathetic in comparison, and he did that type of travel all the time, I got lucky and traveled through carriages my whole life.

The tunnel is quite dark with only a few torches lighting the walls. There's a creepy feel to this pce. But I'm really just scared of the dark, so it's better not to look into it. Nobody else seems to have the same feeling anyways, they just walked right in. And I just stood there for a good few seconds, I can't tell if I was gathering confidence or just taking a small rest.

  "Pyra..." Teir says.

  "What's up?" I say.

"Would you... possibly help me fly again?" She asks.

"I'm really not the right person to ask." I tell her, "I've never been able to fly, let alone have wings."

Teir pys with her hands for a moment, the way she picks at her fingernails and cracks her fingers reminds me of when I was younger. After my dad died, I'd do things like that... Just a little worse and maybe a bit more painful. The scars on my wrists help remind me, remind me to stay strong. It'd be pretty disappointing to forget something like walking, and Teir's walking is flying.

"You know what! I'll teach you." I tell her, "I might not be too good at it though." I chuckle.

"Really!" Teir shouts, bouncing up and down, pushing her face into my arm.

The tunnel smells of some sort of ash. It's not a completely unbearable smell, but it's quite rancid. I'm hoping it's just from the torches pced on the walls, even if they're spread out thin. It's probably not the case since there's a much brighter section coming up here. I'm hoping this isn't some demon reted thing and just some adventures sitting by a fire.

As we get closer, I think I can make out a carriage. It's not intact in any form but there doesn't seem to be any life around it.

  "What's your guesses?" Midgure asks.

"A demon. Has to be." Roy shrugs.

"No way. I'm gonna guess... A hot elf dy waiting for her boar in shining armor!" Midgure ughs.

  "Nice one." I chuckle.

"Was that a joke?" Teir asks.

"Yeah, just a joke." I tell her.

Teir stares at Midgure for a second, then she glimpses at Hilt.

"I don't get it." She shrugs, looking back towards the carriage shaped object.

It's not really a joke to get, just an idiot trying to flirt. Hilt hasn't been really bothered in his attempts, mainly due to all of his help. It started by carrying her box, then moved to giving up a pillow during the nights. Hilt may give him something in return eventually, not anything of value, but she could ugh at a joke or something. It's just a matter of time!

There's no life around the carriage, it's just a burnt pile of wood. There is a few bodies around, definitely a demon's work. Midgure sets down his box and walks around to the other side of the carriage. I hold my staff out in front of me, channeling my mana into the tip of it. A rge ball of water slowly appears above the carriage, it spshes down, putting out the fire.

"So, who wants to go in first?" I ask.

  "I'll examine it." Roy shrugs.

He walks over to the carriage entrance and steps inside. It's better to examine a pce like this than to leave it alone. We don't know who can jump out at us, and things like these give us little hints.

"Nothing in here!" Roy yells out at us.

"There's nothing over here either!" Midgure shouts.

That's honestly kind of a relief. Other than the bodies, this pce doesn't seem like a problem. We'd better get moving fast, the sun's setting soon.
