CHAPTER 8: The Banquet

  8

In the shining capital of Aurum, where white stone roads glimmered beneath sunlight and banners fluttered like silk wings in the breeze, the castle was alive with celebration. Musicians played along the streets, flower petals were scattered from balconies, and laughter echoed from courtyard to courtyard. It was the fifteenth birthday of Princess Sophia, third child of the King of Aurum, and one of the most anticipated celebrations in the kingdom.

The castle itself was a marvel—walls of royal blue and gold, rising high and proud above the city. Grand windows reflected sunlight like polished gems, and tall spires stretched upward as though reaching for the gods. It was known throughout the land of Maharlikans as one of its greatest architectural wonders. Statues of ancient heroes lined the grand entrance: warriors clad in armor, wizards with carved staffs, and guardians who once fought the Dark Lich in a war remembered only in songs and legends.

Inside the great banquet hall, nobles from all corners of the kingdom gathered. The hall’s ceiling was adorned with painted constellations and golden chandeliers that bathed everything in warm light. Tables overflowed with roasted meats, exotic fruits, and wines more fragrant than roses.

At the center of it all stood Princess Sophia.

Her gown sparkled like starlight, woven from threads of silver and pale blue, her long dark hair tied with golden ribbons. Her eyes were bright, curious, and thoughtful—not the shallow gaze of someone used to luxury, but the warm look of one who observed and understood.

One by one, nobles approached her, offering gifts of extravagant jewels, crowns, golden birds, and rare gems—each trying to earn her favor. Almost all of them brought their firstborn sons, cleaned, groomed, and postured, hoping to be remembered, if not chosen, in future court alliances.

Sophia accepted every gift with polite grace, but there was something distant in her expression—something searching. Something waiting.

The celebration was grand, merry, bright.
