Chapter 3

I stayed on the floor for some time.

  1 Blip.

  …

  10 Blip.

  …

  40 Blip.

My legs are sore, weak, and a bit unresponsive.

Even as I try massaging them slowly it takes a long time for the numbness in my muscles to subdue.

It was clear to me that something had been injected into my body at the time I was released from the tubed machine.

I could clearly feel it at the moment.

But I couldn't feel any negative effects. Yet.

  100 Blip.

  …

  200 Blip.

Slowly, with every passing second, I can feel my body regain some of its strength.

The soreness lessens little by little and after some time I am able to sit up.

It is still hard to make out the surroundings but from what I can see with my diminished visual capacity, there isn't much around, just some tables nearby.

This place feels even more abandoned than the morgue I was previously at.

There doesn't seem to be a single trace of activity anywhere, not even a single chime.

But still that doesn't mean I'm safe here.

Breathing in slowly, I take my time.

  I wait. Patiently.

  …

Slowly I try to stand, using the console with the button to support my weight.

My arms shake and so do my legs, but I don't let it discourage me.

I can't tell how long my body had been hanging in this place connected to those tubes, but it must have been enough time for my muscles to deteriorate.

Still the only thing I can think about is that whatever the machine injected into my body, reinvigorated my once decaying state.

Since being disconnected from the entrapment, I can feel my body strengthen by the minute.

  …

Finally up on my feet I test the ground beneath me feeling for the terrain, making sure I do not stumble over anything.

Taking a few steps I approach the table closest to me.

As I touch the metallic structure, I can feel its musty dust filled surface.

The old grime is thick under my fingers nonetheless this does not dissuade me from stretching my skin upon the surface, gauging to senses if there is anything I can recognize.

On top of the table I find nothing, but as I inspect all throughout the table, I finally make out the shape of a handle.

  A cabinet.

I open it at once and stretch my fingers towards a tube-like object. I take it out and examine the object when suddenly I feel a small nob turn and light blasts out from the thing.

  A flashlight.

Instinctively I close my eyes as its light is to hash for my newly reopened eyes.

Slowly I take my time to blink, trying to adjust to the luminosity but even after I'm able to fully open my eyes, my vision is still blurry and somewhat patchy.

Still, now I can see what is around me.

Taking everything in I can visualize a room filled with desks similar to the one I had been searching and they are all full of dust and cobwebs, giving the clear visual of a completely abandoned place.

Turning the light back towards the machinery that had once held me in place, I can now clearly see it in detail.

It is composed of a metallic arch that sustains 4 different metallic tubes with pointy syringe-like ends.

The tubes extend all the way up to the ceiling where it intertwines with other cable like components. The mess up above is so tangled and coiled that it is hard to understand where these tubes even end.

Next to it I could now clearly see the console with the blinking light and the button. I can also see a lever turned upwards.

Still I wasn't in the mood to touch anything related to the machinery.

Turning backwards I started to walk from desk to desk looking for anything else I could find that could help me understand where I am or how I can get out of here.

Eventually at the side of the room I find a set of double doors and next to it I see a set of metallic lockers.

Approaching them with caution I can see that some of the lockers are secured with similar looking metallic locks.

Finlay after scanning across the lockers, I come across one without a lock.

When I open it, I can see it's somewhat dirty inside but it's not as bad as the desk’s surface.

Inside I find a grey bodysuit and a badge with a barcode. There is no name written on it, instead it says “Doctor F” and above it there is an image of a young man.

The face on the badge provoques no feeling of recognition, but whoever “Doctor F” is, they will help me get out of here.

Taking the badge I attach it to the bodysuit and start to put my limbs through it. The room is cold and walking around naked doesn't seem like the best option.

The coldness and nakedness of my body brings back memories from the morgue and instinctively I flash the light onto my bare skin towards my abdomen.

But this time, there is nothing there.

  Not even a single mark.

How long has it been that the scar has completely faded from my body?

It's as if it had never been there at all.

Still, I push the thought to the back of my mind and zip up the bodysuit.

Then I move towards the door and slowly use the badge to open it.
