Entry 26: "Positive"

Last night we all went to a club. I didn’t make an entry yesterday, so tonight is three nights since Silviu came over and five nights since Vance came over. We had a VIP table and bottle service, but the management of the club changed and so the process of Hisato bribing them to let me in had to start from the beginning, as if it were the first time we had been there. It got worked out though. We drank a lot and all the girls, except me, danced (as agreed with the management). At one point Hisato disappeared into the restroom and was gone for over an hour. I didn’t ask what he was doing in there. I really didn’t want to know. Maybe some night in the future it’ll make for an interesting section of a scribble. While he was in there, Grace and Corinne were on the dance floor toying with the well-dressed men trying to dance on them. Darcy, myself, and Rosanna sat in that order on the sofa that had been fitted to the serpentine curve of our table, drinking Cape Cods. I asked our bottle girl to put strawberries in mine. As I drank, I was all over the place, blabbing about my nights with Vance and Silviu.

Regarding Vance, Darcy said, “It’s interesting he said ‘I don’t want you to think I’m using you’ instead of just saying ‘I’m not using you.’”

  “Good catch,” Rosanna agreed.

“Is it fair to nitpick him that closely for not always having the right words?” I asked. “I mean, I know I don’t always say things the best way either.”

“I get what you’re saying, but I still think he should’ve done better.”

“Orly, you skipped the part when I walked in the room. Let me tell Darcy. When I finished getting ready, I had to pass through the living room to go out, and there was Orly sitting on the sofa with Vance with her legs wide open.”

  “What?”

“Don’t exaggerate! I just had my leg over his.”

“Yes, but you were wearing a dress! And black lace panties! I saw everything!” Rosanna and Darcy laughed uproariously.

“Well he didn’t see anything. Even when I straddled him, nothing happened.”

“Wait, what? You skipped that part too!” Darcy exclaimed.

“I climbed on top of him and told him to kiss me, but he just couldn’t do it. And seriously, Rosanna, the way he looked at you when you left…If it had been you sitting with him, he would’ve fucked you hard three times before Gogo’s eyes bleed.”

“I wouldn’t do that to you, Orly.”

  “I know you wouldn’t.”

“I’m guessing you were watching Kill Bill.”

“Yeah. We were. But you know what’s weird? When he held my hand at the gallery I was all over the moon. But when he held it at my house, well, I mean I liked it but why didn’t it feel like enough? Am I just one of those annoying people who always wants more?”

Darcy put her cocktail down and looked at me. “It was, what—the second or third date?”

“Third. By my count at least.”

“It’s not just you, Orly. Anybody would want more by then. Most people are already exchanging fluids by date three. In Los Angeles by date zero. And you had a literal Netflix and chill date. It’s totally understandable that you wanted more.”

“Well, anyway, he rejected me. Maybe not totally. I don’t know. It’s like he needs time to process whether or not he can become a pedo in exchange for becoming a vampire. As if being with me makes him a pedo even though he knows what I really am.” Rosanna and Darcy glanced at each other and then back to me. “What? No comment? Your silence reeks volumes.”

Darcy then said, “I agree with what your Eternal told you. It’d be easier for a vampire of your bloodline to understand you’re an adult. I mean really understand it.”

“So what, I should turn him?”

“What for? You already have one pre-made.”

“Yes. Let’s talk about Silviu instead,” Rosanna said. “When you first talked about him, I thought this was going to be something where you had to choose between the fun guy and the serious guy, but it turns out Silviu has a fun side too.”

  “Yeah, when he’s shitfaced.”

“But I think what comes out when people are drunk shows who they really are. Or at least who they’re capable of being. In vino veritas, right? At least he wasn’t an angry drunk.”

“Rosanna’s right. And Silviu will probably let his guard down the more he’s around you, drunk or not.”

“I like what he said about the stars being more immortal than us,” Rosanna added.

“I did too, but that floating around as seawater stuff sounded a little off the deep end. And then what does he end up doing? He jumps in the pool, in the fucking deep end.” Darcy laughed.

“You had to be there. And anyway, it got him in just a towel.”

“I saw that. You in bed together.”

  “Nothing happened.”

“I know. But it could’ve. At least that’s how it looked.”

It was then that Hisato returned from the restroom. He slid into our VIP booth and reached for a bottle.

“Well, look who’s back,” Darcy commented. “That must’ve been a really long line.”

“Only four. They had the pink stuff. But that’s not what took so long.”

“I figured. Your zipper’s down, Dummy Bear.”

“So what are we talking about?”

  “Boys of course,” I said.

“What’s there to talk about?” he asked as he fixed his zipper, grinning.

“You’re too much. Let me ask you. If you weren’t a vampire, what do you think you’d be? Like would you join the circus or something like that?”

“The circus? Fuck no. I know exactly what I’d be.”

“Oh this’ll be good,” Darcy nudged me.

  “Go ahead.”

“I’d be a corrupt cop of course. Think of all the shady stuff you’d get to do, fucking over both sides. Call me The Bad Lieutenant!”

“I should’ve guessed that. He loves that sleazy movie.”

“I haven’t seen it,” Rosanna said.

“We’ll watch it later,” I replied.

Corinne and Grace returned from the dance floor and sat with us.

“So many to choose from tonight,” Grace said, smiling.

“Orly’s got the same problem,” Darcy said.

I elbowed her and she laughed. “Only two,” I said. “I can’t make up my mind.”

“You seen their dicks?” Hisato asked.

  “Oh my god, no!”

“Then I wouldn’t even be thinking about choosing yet. Actually, why choose at all?”

  “Totally agree,” Corinne replied.

“Anyhow, me not being either of you, do I need to tell them about each other?”

“I don’t think so. You’re not dating either of them,” Rosanna answered.

  “We’ve had dates.”

“Not the same thing. That doesn’t mean you’re dating dating,” Darcy said.

“Yeah, you’re just talking at this point, Orly,” Rosanna agreed.

“I feel like I’m on Love Island right now. Dating. Being exclusive. Boyfriend girlfriend. All this terminology. It’s totally confusing.”

“I’d tell them about each other,” Corinne said dryly.

“What? You would?” I asked, completely taken by surprise hearing this from Corinne.

“Of course. It lets them know I don’t care about either of them. That makes them try harder, thinking they’re competing with someone else. Trust me. It works every time.”

The surprise I felt evaporated. I saw it was completely in character and, in a way, it actually sounded reasonable.

“Orly, which one do you like better?” Grace asked.

“I don’t know. I like them both, but I like them differently.”

“I thought as much. Don’t rush to make a choice. You don’t need to see their dicks, but you do need to see more of them. Enjoy them both until the choice becomes obvious.”

  “Will it ever become obvious?”

“Most likely. And if it never does one of them will probably walk away and that’ll make the choice for you.”

“Grace, you’re usually the positive one.”

“I know, but even when love is constant relationships are full of variables. Of this, I’m especially positive.”

From the pink hibiscus cocktail pick in my drink, I slid a halved strawberry between my lips and shut my mouth. I didn’t want to say the truth: When it comes to choosing between Vance and Silviu, the obvious choice is the one who ends up choosing me.
