Not a bad haul for another hour of hunting. I had gained another 250 experience, which I was still a fuck ton away from leveling. Something told me the heart was used for something. At least I knew I had enough steaks to last me a while.

Currently, I was perched high on a sturdy branch, near the top of the canopy of the Large Fucking Trees. Yes, they had a name. No, I didn't care.

The scenery was rather beautiful, though. It felt pure, something you could never get from living in the inner city.

  It was nice.

I had decided to take a breather after another hour of fighting and eat. The rations with the kit sucked, but it was filling, which I suppose was all that mattered. I took the time to look at the wiki. It didn’t take long to understand how skills worked and could be rotated and leveled.

It was not going to be an easy road to level. I understood the reasoning. The more I thought of it, the more I began to realize how overpowered I was right now. Sure, I couldn't blast fireballs out of my eyes or something like that. Sounds painful anyway.

This whole manipulating luck, on the other hand, was just disgustingly strong. Not complaining. I had figured out a lot in the past hour. Like how to manipulate my luck and to lean more into the passive ability to gain Good Luck. Right now, I have 75 good luck points and have been trying to find that balance for bad luck . It rested at 46. I had been keeping it under, but a few times I had started running low. I needed some pool to fuel my other abilities.

I wound up getting my first wound out of that. I did find some healing potions in a pouch I overlooked. My shirt had repaired itself, so it never seemed like I had been bleeding profusely. It was a weird feeling to truly feel your own mortality like that.

The problem was that my whole build was about taking risks. Playing it safe wasn't going to work with how this whole Good Luck thing was. I was never really a play-it-safe person in my previous life. The difference is I knew when not to do stupid shit. With this whole thing, I had to do stupid and crazy shit.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

I looked at the three drones hovering around. “I'd better be making bank from all this risking my life thing, “ grumbling, I brushed my hands off as I finished the ration bar. I still had the feeling that someone was close by watching me, but I had yet to figure out where they were. It was putting me on edge, and that was not a good thing. Being this nervous wore on the body and mind quickly.

Not something that was needed, considering I had enough bullshit to deal with.

Climbing down the tree, I was still marveling at how well this body moved. Before the accident with the elevator, I wasn't exactly a slouch physically, but this body was on a whole different level of fitness. I was actually enjoying being able to do things I always fantasized about.

I was now feeling more comfortable using the saber and knife. My footwork had improved, and I was getting better in combat as I could feel the skills that had been put in my brain becoming more of a muscle memory. I wasn't completely there yet.

I was getting there, and that in the end was all that mattered. Consistent improvement.

With my feet touching the ground once more. I took in my surroundings, making sure nothing lurked in the shadows. I had by now learned how to pick out the panthers when they were stalking me. I really was coming to hate those fuckers.

After walking for half an hour, I noticed the trees and brush thinning out a bit. I could see the forest opening up to a break in the canopy. Green grass, vibrant, even with my shades on, it was a beautiful sight. I could see a slow-moving river cutting through and disappearing further west into a large corpse of trees.

Now, if this were a movie, I think this is where the morons would go rushing to the river to get fresh water or something. Not me, I had seen enough Discovery Channel shit to know bodies of water were also where predators hung out. Also, a great place for ambushes.

There was little to no cover from the water. Of course, I could walk around staying in the cover of the forest. Taking a guess, it would add at least an hour to my journey, and this is where speed vs safety came into play. To be bold or cautious?

I leaned against a tree right at the line where the forest began to end , and the clearing started. My eyes were searching for any signs of movement in the tall grass. Especially around the bank of the river. How far I could see still just amazed me.

“Smart. Waiting to see if there are predators lying in wait out there. “

I think I just jumped out of my skin, and my skeleton was still going up in the air as this distinctly female voice came out of nowhere.

  Fuck I hope I didn't piss myself.

I looked down and, not seeing a wet spot, I sighed in relief before I moved my eyes to the voice. I figured if she wanted to kill me, she would have driven a dagger into my back before whispering sweet nothings in my ear.

Turning around, I had to admit the scenery just got a hell of a lot better, even if she was clearly a demon. I found I was quickly becoming an equal opportunity Lucky giver.

I flashed a smile as I looked at thigh-high boots that ran up rather long, toned, red-skinned legs. The boots ended, and tight leather shorts were picked up, leaving little to the imagination. A spear-tipped tail ran from a tight ass, which caused me to lick my lips. My eyes continued to run over the toned red colored flesh of her stomach, which formed into at least a DD covered in a tight leather halter top. I had no idea how it contained them; it looked so tight. The leather ran up to her neck, covering her shoulders and about halfway down her arms to stop at her elbow. Each wrist had a shiny metal for bracers. On each hip were two long, wickedly curved daggers. Her features were sharp and angled, not sure if she had an ounce of fat on her. Deep black eyes, and she had two small horns coming from her forehead, offering a slight curve upward. Her hair, as well, was a fiery red.

  Fuck a redheaded demon.

Jeez, and human redheads had a bad enough reputation.

“Well, are you done eye fucking me, Elf, not elf ?”

My smile was huge on my lips as I met her gaze. “No, perhaps I just want to take my time?”

Huh.. When did I get so bold?
