(207)Chapter 3.5.5 – The Three Headed Dog. (Part 1)

  Swoosh! Fire noises!

A ball made of fire, roughly three times my size is coming towards us with immense speed. This ball made of fire seems to be a Great Fireball powered up to A+ rank or in other words, quite the strong magic spell. The temperatures of it should scrap the 2000 degrees or close to it but, not that it matters much as it will melt anything that comes in contact with it and to make it worse, the explosion that follows the initial contact, it will be much deadlier and devastating than the flames themselves. The spell was prepared rather suddenly and because of that it’s slightly for the sloppy side as I noticed that whoever is eager to burn us alive, it’s even stronger than the spell itself. Maybe it’s testing us? Hmm, I don’t think so in fact, thanks to the current natural magic energy that we both are sending out to the world, we should be around C ish rank or in other words, he’s underestimating us.

  Blast! Woosh!

It went exactly how anyone could expect. The initial impact is violent so much so that a shockwave follows upon it and one that is strong enough to be felt from some distance. The Great Fireball hit the barrier dead on; however, it didn’t immediately explode; in fact, it seemed to clash with it for brief moments until the spell was destabilized enough to then explode. Thus, the explosion happened because of the destabilization. It was much stronger than the initial hit, the flames became slightly hotter but quickly cooled down right after that but let me tell you, they did reach a peak of 2100 degrees. If before they could melt anything then now, the same happens but just a little bit quicker… The blast radius should have consumed both us and some more even and yet, just like what happened to Kiana when she was fighting the Shadow Chariot, thanks to the barrier the blast radius was “cut” per say, rendering it useless in that small area. Although, to my surprise, the ground where we stand still is intact almost as if even after suffering the wrath of a powerhouse of a spell didn’t even seem to faze it. It’s strong enough to withstand the shockwaves that followed the first impact and of course the explosion that followed. Resistant enough to not melt under the tremendous high temperatures from the flames and sturdy enough to render the explosion ineffective. However, even if the ground, floor, didn’t get destroyed by the Great Fireball, the spell was able to leave traces of his existence meaning that, a large “black area” was left behind and a trace of where he went through. This is nothing more than ashes burnt to such extent they turned black.

  “You ok? Are you hurt?”

  “Ye-yes… I’m fine, thank you.”

Good, not only she quickly answers me, she’s also being honest although I can easily feel the fear behind her simple words and honest answer. I might not be able to see her at all but, I do have that feeling. Is it because of Hero’s intuition or is it my man’s intuition? Either way, that matters not for now. If we stand still for too long, we are going to get hit by another magic spell and this time I can confidently say that it will be much stronger than the previous one. Don’t get it wrong though, I’m more than confident that I can defend both of us but, I don’t want to risk her getting hurt at all. This means that I will have to switch his target from both of us to me and only I. Huh, like what I did there? Me to I?

“Alright, that’s good to hear. Stay inside of here and don’t leave. This barrier will protect you so, don’t worry if a stray projectile is directed at you.”

Seriously, why the heck did I say this at the end? It almost seems that it’s guaranteed that some type of stray projectile will hit her! If that is the case, what the heck am I even doing then? Argh, whatever, what is said is said, I can’t take it back now. Although, I do say all of this with a confident look on my face but with a soft look on my eyes somehow. Not only that, I also quickly surround her with quite the barrier if I say so myself. I might have said that but that does not mean I want her to suffer from my poor job at protecting her. This barrier will be able to protect her from anything that is weaker than SS rank or in other words, anything that you can imagine. However, if the case that this thing further down the room is stronger than your average SS rank then, the barrier won’t last for too long. But I doubt that is the case.

  “Yes!”

Oh my, can’t say that I was expecting for her to be this “happy” but she sure sounds quite confident. Is the confidence in herself that she can do what I asked for in the exact letter? Or is it confidence in my abilities? Or the barrier that I’ve erected? Either way, with her being this easy to work with I can comfortably switch my attention towards the thing further down the room.

And that is exactly what I do while at the same time, said thing is also mere moments from unleashing another catastrophe upon us.

  “Wind Dash!”

The first thing I do is dash towards him and I do so by using an Anemo spell to boost me up. I’m quite far from him since this room is so big, however, that’s not the reason for such as I’m not in a timer or anything of that sort. No, what’s bothering me is exactly Miss Pink Orb as she’s right behind me. If that thing unleashes that spell he’s preparing unto me, the blast radius will definitely hit her this time around and while it won’t hurt her at all, well in fact, she won’t even feel it but, I still don’t want her to be affected by such impurities as I doubt the barrier will stop the smoke from the explosion to not enter it. It’s my job to protect her and while I’ve already done that, I should go well beyond that and literally make her a spectator of the show that is about to begin, not some bystander that happens to get hit from time to time. No, she bought the whole ticket and therefore as an actor, I must make sure she enjoys the show in comfort. Now, what type of spell or monstrosity of a spell is that thing preparing one might ask? Quite simple, it’s another Great Fireball, while not S rank this one is at least three times stronger than the previous one, raking it at S- rank instead but this alone should also show a glimpse of how strong the realm of S rank is compared to A+ rank.

Ah, it seems he has another Great Fireball ready to be thrown at me.

Right before anything happened, I did a simple sidestep; however, I was only able to do so because I cut short my dash as otherwise, I would’ve kept on going. I quickly noticed that I was right on his aim and since my dash was straight forward, you can guess that I’m an easy target for that thing and you would be right. Once again though, what worries me the most is that little pink orb behind me, and that’s the sole reason why I did what I did. I roughly timed when he was about to unleash the spell, a little earlier than that, just enough to give me time to sidestep to remove her from his field of view and of course any possible trajectory from any spell but it was also earlier enough that he will actually shoot where I will “land” after the sidestep. This way she will literally be out of any unwanted trajectory as there’s no way that the spell will hit her with him aiming at me. Alright, enough of my usual yapping, time to get to business, I guess.

  Fire noises! Bam!

That thing is not stupid at all, meaning that, since it saw me sidestepping, we waited for me to “land” so that he could unleash his spell towards me. In a normal situation I would’ve literally left his field of view as I did sidestep quite dramatically however, that didn’t happen as he has more than one head. As I was expecting, one of his heads had another Great Fireball read to be thrown at me, shot in this case, rather than the main head being the one to unleash his spell towards me, the moment it saw me sidestepping the other head took control of the situation, shooting his spell towards me instead. To be honest, it was perfectly timed on his part as he was basically already aiming at roughly that area meaning that, my feet didn’t even touch the ground and I already had a Great Fireball in front of me, ready to burn me alive and into nothing as I doubt with those temperatures would allow ashes to be formed. Seriously, it was so close that I could easily dry myself after taking a bath with it. Now that’s a weird analogy but oh well, with a quick Anemo spell, I dodge the Great Fireball. Nothing out of this world but with my left hand extended left as much as it can go, at the front of the palm of my hand a magic circle is formed, one with that characteristic green colour to it. Mere moments later, a small gust of wind propels me just enough to fully dodge the Great Fireball and mind you, that ball made of fire easily has a diameter of 5 meters, not small at all. Because of what I did, the spell hit the ground a few good meters past me and just like before, the same happened. The explosion is even more violent than before, much stronger and the shock wave that follows such a phenomenon, it also follows the same philosophy, being much stronger than the previous one. Ah yes, before moving to the next Great Fireball as the main head has already shot it towards me, right the moment I dodge the other one. Ahem, the temperatures of the flames are also higher than before, but I mean, if 2000 degrees are enough to melt anything that you can think of, 2400 degrees will do the same job 20% quicker, don’t you think?

  Fire noises! Bam! Woosh!

This time around, I dodge it by dashing forward towards the thing, closing the distance between us rather quickly but not fully. I’m currently at around 20 or so meters from it? Yeah, close enough but, what happened to the previous Great Fireball, a sane soul would ask… Well, a good question indeed and the answer for it will be a brilliant description from yours truly, get ready!

  It missed me.

  It went kaboom.

  And that’s it.

What else were you expecting to happen? The moment I dashed towards that thing it was the moment I left the spell useless as it was destined to miss its target whatever it deeply desired to hit or not. But now that I’m closer to the thing let me tell you something, it’s huge. I’m not joking, it easily has close to 10 meters of height and I guess the length should be a little more than that. Not only that, it’s also a Shadow but one with a physical body rather than a magical one. Huh, now this is interesting. It also has parts of its body that are made of pure magic but this might be more so thanks to the sheer amount of magic energy it has that in this case, it truly is monstrously and of course, in the S rank realm. I can only imagine the tremendous and horrifying amount of damage this thing can do in the real world. But, enough of this, you still have no clue what it looks like.
