Chapter 13 : one step closer five step behind

After leaving the house, I finally had some answers… but something still felt off. I wasn’t satisfied. Deep down, I knew those things were real.

  They were called regenerative symbionts.

And now I knew exactly where I needed to go next.

I called Richard again and asked him for something. After listening for a moment, he simply replied, “Okay.”

A few minutes later, I was on my bike outside Daniel’s house. I hung up the phone and started the engine.

Just as I was about to leave, I felt it.

  Someone’s eyes on me.

I didn’t turn around. I ignored the feeling and drove away, pretending I hadn’t noticed anything.

After some time, the bike stopped.

I got off and walked toward the building entrance. Two guards were standing at the gate.

  I walked inside calmly.

“I have an appointment,” I told the officer at the desk.

  “For a meeting.”

He looked down and started checking the register.

“Ohh so you are Kelix. .

  “Yes.

“Here's your pass, you can go with one of our officers. He will take you there. You have 15 min to talk.”

  “Okay .”

After leaving Mr. Daniel’s house, Kelix decided to visit the culprit of the case. The man had been declared mentally ill and was now kept in an asylum under treatment.

Since Kelix found nothing useful at Daniel’s house, he asked Richard to arrange an appointment.

Now, standing in front of the man inside the visiting room, Kelix spoke calmly.

“Hello, I’m Kelix. Can you tell me what happened that day… when you were arrested?”

  The man suddenly became nervous.

“No… I don’t know anything. Just go away… go away!” he shouted. “Nothing is real! Not you, not me… one day everything will be destroyed!”

“Calm down,” Kelix said quietly. “Just relax.”

“Stop it!” the man yelled, his voice shaking. “Just go away! I don’t know anything!”

The man began losing control, breathing heavily, his eyes filled with fear.

  have to leave.

Damn it… I can’t even use my magic here. My body is still exhausted from the training, and there are cameras everywhere. The guards are standing right behind me.

Even if I tried to use my powers, they would notice immediately.

And I don’t even know how many people here are real humans.

What if some of them are regenerative symbionts disguised as humans?

If that happens… it could completely backfire on me.

So for now, the only smart choice is to walk away.

  “Okay I am

I left the place once again.

I failed to gain any useful information. No matter how hard I tried, everything only became more complicated.

How am I supposed to save my family?

Every time I get one step closer to the truth, something pushes me five steps back.

  Everything is a mess.

  Meanwhile, at Daniel’s house…

A shadow appeared outside the house.

The figure wore a long hood and a dark mask. Only the stranger’s eyes were visible through the narrow opening.

The stranger quietly entered Daniel’s house.

Without making a sound, the figure moved behind him.

  Thud.

Daniel collapsed to the floor after a sudden strike to the back of his head.

Moments later, the stranger tied him tightly to a chair.

After some time, Daniel slowly regained consciousness.

  His vision was blurry.

“W-Who are you?” he asked weakly.

The stranger stood in front of him, face still hidden beneath the hood and mask.

The voice that came out was cold and calm.

“It doesn’t matter who I am.”

  A small pause followed.

  “I will ask questions.”

  “And you will answer them.”

“What if I refuse?” Daniel asked nervously.

“Then you will face the consequences,” the stranger replied calmly.

There was a glass sitting on the table beside them.

The hooded stranger slowly raised a hand and pointed a finger toward it.

  Crack.

The glass suddenly shattered on its own.

The broken pieces began floating in the air as if an invisible force was holding them. Slowly, they moved toward Daniel’s face.

Within seconds, the sharp fragments stopped just a centimeter away from his eyes.

Sweat started running down Daniel’s face.

“O-Okay!” he stammered quickly. “I’ll answer your questions!”

  The stranger stepped closer.

“Before we begin,” the cold voice said, “let me confirm something.”

A small shard of glass floated forward. The stranger used it to make a light scratch across Daniel’s right cheek.

A thin line of blood appeared.

  Nothing happened.

  The wound didn’t heal.

The stranger watched carefully for a moment.

“So… you are human after all.”

“Good… so you are human,” the stranger said calmly. “Now let’s begin without wasting any more time.”

The masked figure leaned slightly closer.

“Who was the boy that just left? And why is he interested in that case?”

“H-He is Kelix,” Daniel answered nervously. “He’s just a student. He said he was curious about the case and wanted to know the details.”

“Oh… curious, huh?” the stranger said quietly. “Well, I’m also curious about something.”

The stranger’s eyes narrowed behind the mask.

“So tell me the real story.”

  Daniel swallowed.

  “I… I have a problem. I can’t remember things clearly.”

The stranger remained silent for a moment.

“Then let me help you remember,” the cold voice replied. “I once heard about a technique. When someone wants to focus, they do a headstand. When your head is down and your legs are up, the blood flows toward the brain.”

  A small pause followed.

  “Let’s try that.”

Suddenly, the stranger grabbed the chair and flipped it upside down.

Daniel, still tied to the chair, was now hanging with his head down and his legs in the air.

“I hope the blood has finally rushed to your head now.”

“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you everything!” Daniel shouted in panic. “Please—put me down!”

After a moment, the stranger slowly turned the chair back upright and placed it on the floor.

Daniel breathed heavily, trying to steady himself.

  “Good,” the stranger said calmly.

  “Now start talking.”

“But wait… how can I believe you? What if you lie? I know a spell that can make someone speak only the truth.”

“Then why torture me like this when you could have used that spell from the start?”

“Because the spell only works if the person is willing to tell the truth and accepts it. It prevents lying or changing the topic. And once the person tells the complete truth, the spell disappears automatically.”

After a moment of hesitation, he finally tells the stranger everything he knows.

The stranger listens silently. When he finishes, the stranger unties him and says coldly,

“I know you probably won’t… but don’t you dare tell anyone about this. If you do—remember what will happen to you.”

“Okay I will not never “

The stranger got out of the house.

The stranger calls someone and says,

“Where are you, I know the full truth.”

After saying that, the stranger hung up the phone and left.

Soon, she arrived at a dark place where a tall man stood waiting. His broad back and perfect physique were visible in the dim light, but his face remained hidden in the shadows.

“There’s a hint,” the stranger said. “We might be able to find them.”

“You didn’t kill him, right?” the man asked.

“Excuse me? Do you think I’m a murderer? I don’t kill humans.”

“Alright. Then tell me what you found.”

The stranger slowly removed her robe. Long hair fell down to her lower back, and her large, beautiful eyes shone even in the darkness. She was much shorter than the man, barely reaching his chest.

The mysterious stranger… was actually a very pretty girl.

The man turned on the light .

  Tell me everything .

“So in 2010 there is a case you know about it right.

Yeah I know where the neighbours complain about the psycho neighbour

“You’re thinking in the right direction. There’s something everyone missed… or maybe they were misled.”

“In that year, when the police received the complaint, it seemed like a normal one. The neighbors reported that a man in the area was behaving strangely and disturbing everyone.”

“Two cops prepared to go investigate. Just then, another colleague said, ‘I’ll come with you. I don’t have much work today. After that, we can chill somewhere.’ So the three of them went together.”

“The investigation began. They first questioned the person who filed the complaint.”

“He explained that the man was like a psycho. He never left his house and rarely came outside. But whenever children played nearby, he would shout strange things at them.”

“Things like, ‘Leave this place… it’s dangerous… they will kill you.’”

“And recently, he started making human-like sculptures from clay and leaving them around the neighborhood.”

  “That terrified all the children.”

They went to check the sculptures.

“He was incredibly skilled. The sculptures looked almost real, their texture soft like human skin. But none of them were complete. Some had no eyes, others had no skin—only a raw flesh-like form. Every sculpture was unfinished.”

“They interrogated him, but he kept denying everything. Instead, he repeated the same disturbing words the neighbors mentioned.”

“Everyone will die… none of you understand…”

“Then he suddenly said, ‘If you don’t believe me, there’s a cave in the mountain. There are people there who can destroy the world. Go and see for yourselves.’”

  “The officers discussed it briefly.”

“Let’s check it once. If it’s nothing, we can close the case.”

“So two of them went to the cave while the third officer stayed behind with the suspect.”

“When they reached the cave, only a minute passed before one of them called the officer downstairs. His voice was shaking with fear.”

“Call the force right now… something is very wrong with this place.”

“It’s different… the victim was right. It’s something beyond the human world.”

  Suddenly, the connection was cut.

“When the force arrived, they immediately went up to the cave. There they found both officers dead. Around them were several wanted criminals—weapon smugglers. According to the report, the criminals had shot the two cops.”

“But the third officer knew the truth… it wasn’t what it looked like.”

“He was too shocked to say anything at first. Later, he told his superior everything.”

“But his superior shut him down. Instead, he gave him a promotion and a warning.”

“Your stupidity made us lose a big opportunity.”

“But how do I know they were telling the truth? They said something big was happening there.”

“Did you see it with your own eyes? Maybe they said that because no one could believe so many wanted criminals gathered in one place. That’s why they described it as something ‘beyond humanity.’”

“Don’t think too much. Just enjoy your promotion.”

“And if you still disagree… we’ll kick you out.”

In the end, his greed stopped him from saying anything more.
