Chapter 10

"No store is open..." Kristina mutters, as she walks through the streets of Seestatd with her butler and lady's maid.

"It's uncommon for shops to be open during the night, my lady," Ernst says.

"You are right..." In medieval times it was actually quite rare for shops to be open at night, I knew that fact, but I forgot to consider it. Subconsciously, I had assumed they would be open at the same times that stores stayed open back on current day Earth.

"The Adventurer's Guild should still be open and they have food, right?" Rose suggests.

"Yes, but we are more interested in finding the price of base ingredients we could potentially cultivate ourselves, the prices of their dishes won't tell us as much..."

"Then, couldn't we just ask the guild's staff about how much they pay for their cooking ingredients?"

"Oh, of course, that's genius Rose!" It was a good idea, but I might be exaggerating to give her a confidence boost.

"Thanks..." The lady's maid blushes a little.

"That was a great idea, Rose." Ernst follows Kristina lead. "I had already thought of it and would have said it if you didn't first," he finishes in his thoughts.

"I'm trying to move on, don't you praise me now..." Rose mutters in response to Ernst, visibly annoyed. I'm still sorry for revealing your crush!

I wonder if Ernst has a crush on anyone? I don't remember writing anything regarding romance in his description.

Entering the Adventurer's Guild, they immediately head to the attendant's desk. Nicolas Auge, the attendant, waves at them as they approach. "The guildmaster should be returning to the guild soon. If you are willing to wait a bit, you could get your ranks raised today."

"That's nice, but not why we came here," Kristina responds.

"Ah, right," he pulls out a paper from a drawer and places it on top of the desk. It looks like some type of form, on top it's written "Party Creation Form"; Below there's an area for the party's name which has been filled with "Grand Fang"; Below that there's an area for the members names, which has spots for a maximum of 10 members, 3 of those have been filled with "Kristina Sanguis", "Ernst Brennen" and "Rose"; At the very bottom is a space for signatures, it's currently empty.

"Lutz from Cheer Guard told me you had formed a party with the name 'Grand Fang', so I did all of the paperwork for your convenience, all it needs to be official now is your signatures." Nicolas explains.

"I see, thank you," Kristina says.

  "Only doing my job."

They all proceed to sign it. Kristina's signature looks like "Sanguis" written in a stylized cursive font. Ernst's looks like a mix of an "E" and a half moon. Rose's look like a flower.

"Still, this wasn't what we came here."

"Ah, of course," he pulls out 7 silver coins and 5 copper coins. "Luzie asked me to give you your change the next time I saw you."

"I see," I did pay with a gold coin, back then... Store the coins disappear, going into Kristina's inventory.

"I found it weird that she said you only had gold coins though, since I had given you some change before..."

"Well, we don't really have much of this country's currency, so to us it is more valuable than gold currently..." In truth, I forgot about the change he had given me... Although, my answer isn't really untrue either.

"In that case, you might want to go to a bank, there you may be able to exchange your coins for Stark's currency."

"Alright," noted, next stop after here shall be a bank then. "That was also not why we came here, we actually want to-"

A man burst in through the front door, interrupting her. "My father has committed a grave mistake! He has allied himself to a wretched vampire, she must have put some of spell on him! I command that you organize an expedition to slay that beast immediately!" He screams as he strides towards the attendant's desk. It's obvious from his clothing and the expensive looking sword he has holstered at his hip that he is a noble.

"Oh, is Count Franz your father?" Before Nicolas can respond, Kristina asks the man a question.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"Yes, I'm Laurin von Weiz, that disappointment's son, and who would you be my fair lady?"

"Such a mean thing to call your father... I'm Kristina Sanguis, the wretched vampire you speak of."

The count's son taken aback for a moment, but he quickly regain his composure and pulls out his sword.

He raises it and swings it down in a uppercut. However, Kristina easily stops it holding the blade between two of her fingers. "Is that all you got, big boy?" She taunts him.

  "You wretch!"

With a single twist of her hand, she breaks the blade in half. "You were saying?"

"Sir Laurin, Kristina is a member of this guild that has so far not showed any ill will. Unless you have serious evidence of wrongdoing, I will have to refuse your request," Nicolas speaks.

  "What?! She's a vampire!"

"Adventurer's Guild policy forbids racial discrimination, we wouldn't want to lose out on potential powerful adventurers, would we?"

"Either way, even my father surely wouldn't normally associate himself with a vampire, I'm sure she has put my father under some sort of spell! Isn't that enough reason?!"

"Without proof, that's just conjecture and thus I still cannot grant your request."

"You little-" In frustration, Laurin raises his sword, ready to strike the attendant, but suddenly someone grabs his wrist, stopping him. He turns his head and he sees the person who holds his wrist standing just behind himself, a beefy man over two meters tall with a large beard and a bald head.

"Guild Master Krieger, I'm happy to see you have returned safely," Nicolas bows to the newly arrived man.

Laurin sweats cold and ends up dropping his broken sword. I could probably have used Calm to stop this situation before it got this far, but I wanted to see this rude guy humiliate himself, hehe.

"Auge, what is happening here?" The guild master asks.

"I was telling this man that his request couldn't be accepted."

"She's a vampire, shouldn't that be proof enough?!" Here Franz's son goes again...

"As I said before, racial discrimination is forbidden in the adventurer's guild."

"Vampire isn't a race! They are type of monster!"

Nicolas sighs. "Miss Sanguis, could you please show him your Stats?"

"Alright," Stats, she grabs the menu and rotates it so Laurin can read it.

"As you can see it clearly says human in the species section and, as you should known, humans are both a humanoid race and not monsters."

"It says in vampire in parentheses right beside it!"

"And? She's just a human that happens to also be a vampire." I can't tell if Nicolas actually believes what he is saying or he just using whatever words he needs to win the argument.

It seems like Laurin is about to object, but the guild master quickly drags him towards the exit and throws him out into the street. Stats, I don't think I will need it open anymore.

"Lady Sanguis, I noticed the change in your rank in your Stats, you have my congratulations," Nicolas comments.

"Thank you. Now, regarding what I came here for tonight, we actually wanted to talk with the kitchen staff about the prices of different ingredients."

"That could certainly be arranged, but first I would like to have a talk with you," The guild master says, returning to the attendant's desk.

The guild master takes them to his office in the second floor of the guild building. Similar to the Count's meeting room, there are two sofas facing each other with a tea table between them. There's also a large desk in front of a window on the end opposite of the entrance.

The guild master sits in one of the sofas and the entirety of Grand Fang sits on the other.

"I'm Alphonse Kreiger, guild master of the Seestadt branch of the Adventurer's Guild It's customary for those of lower rank to introduce themselves first, so it makes sense Alphonse would start, since he's a commoner. Well, I'm technically still a commoner as well, but I'm still a higher rank than him, even if just barely.

"I am Kristina Sanguis, Lady of Nacht Manor." Every place here seems to have a German name, so I decided to give my manor a German name. Not knowing many German words, my options were limited, but I at least knew the word for night in German, "Nacht", and I thought it sounded cool enough.

"Ernst Brennen, head butler of Nacht Manor."

  "Rose, Lady Kristina's lady's maid."

"Nicolas has given me a report about you all with Message, but there are still some stuff I would like to know about you..."

"I may answer your questions, as long as they aren't too personal..." Kristina says.

"Where did you come from? A level 100 adventurer doesn't just appear out of nowhere."

"Believe it or not, but we, along with my manor, got transported to this world with no way of returning to our original world."

"You are from another world? That actually explains your coins, they don't match any currency of any modern country as far as I'm aware. As I heard about it on the report Nicolas sent me, I had theorized they might be from an ancient civilization lost to time, since vampires can live forever as far as I'm aware."

"I believe it's true that vampires can live forever, but I'm not that old! I'm less than 100... I think..."

"You are 51 years old, my lady," Ernst states.

In Kristina backstory, she had to leave her home and family sometime in her early twenties, then she immediately went to become an adventurer, which marked the end of backstory and beginning of my gameplay. As I figured out in the meeting with the count, the time I spent in-game amounted to 30 years, so 51 is a reasonable age for me to have. Though mentally I'm still only 32...

"That's younger than me," the guild master lets out a chuckle. "Anyways, what's the reason you decided to become adventurers?"

"So we wouldn't have to pay the entrance fee when we entered a city," Kristina tells the truth.

"Oh, really? That's a shame, you have the potential to help a lot with your strength."

"Don't worry, my manor is in these lands, if some giant dragon, some goblin horde or anything else attacks, I'll be here to defend this place."

"That's nice to hear... Well, I will take you to the kitchen staff, follow me," he gets up from the sofa.

"I'm honestly surprised with how relaxed you all are with the fact that I'm a vampire," she gets up from the sofa.

"To be frank, I don't fully trust you yet, but it's not like we have anyone who could beat you anyways."

"I see..." So that's how it is.
